A beautiful place to get out and explore, thanks for the look around.

Funny enough we were parked in that car park at Hawkshead last Wednesday and I remembered there was a canny small fell called Latterbarrow near there, which I think would have been perfect for Mrs Metalman but never been myself and not prepared, so we went for a drink and a pizza (highly recommended) in the Queens Head instead. Lucky to see a pine martin (and a newt and a deer too) and we were watching 2 red squirrels case each other on Thursday just outside Keswick. Dodgy path indeed, give me a Dave path every day of the week and I was waiting for that fall, as you did say, you wanted a bit more excitement in this video........ Never been to Grisdale Forest before and what a great cairn on Latterbarrow, as well as a great view too, for very little work. With you on not knowing that Carron Crag was there and also on following the makers, which are always confusing. Another nice summit view mind and one I will be checking out at some point in the future, possibly with Mrs Metalman too, as I think she could manage that one too. Cheers Alan

aye i thought you would have had a shot up latterbarrow, ya can see the cairn on top from that car park.. but Hawkshead has many tourist attractions including a chocolate factory which i will have to pay a future visit too.. Grizedale forest in a nice day out for the family, like i said its pretty much the same as Whinlatter forest we have in north cumbria.. you can hire ebikes and enjoy multiple routes of differing levels (was very busy at the visitor centre, expensive food too which put me off staying longer than i needed too).. Thanks for watching Alan, tek care :)

Another great video. Very good information on the routes taken. Just looked at Daves KZbin channel and subscribed to it. There are a few really good channels that show walking the Wainwrights.Thank you for the effort.

aye daves channel is only like the 4th or 5th i know to show the outlying fells.. we are trying to encourage people to give them a bit more love than they currently do.. i think most arnt even aware they exist but with more and more people completing the main 214 i think they will become popular with time..

Hi Dave, was totally disoriented at the start to see you without your hat and a number one all over!! But it was Dave Ostle Mountain Man after all. Have been to Hawkshead many times, lovely village to walk round but have also been to the top of Latterbarrow, which we did from Wray Castle. The trig point is enormous and the paths up and around are very good. Great spot with the Pine Martin, that's super, never seen one in the wild before, and all the other wildlife. Have also been the Grisedale Forest and its a super place, like you said, similar to Whinlatter, just harder to get to. Plenty of paths there to confuse us, and the bikers would freak me out. That fall you had could have been a lot worse, but we've all had those, we just don't show them!! Great video, regards, Ashley

@@ashleyjarnold haha aye someone actually recognised me from this channel and the first thing they said was "wheres ya hat".. it's a bit of an alien area to me, even tho it's only south cumbria it's very rare northern cumbrians travel below Keswick or even to Keswick to be honest, most people up there head to the coasts of allonby and silloth for days out.. I always thought the south was very barren with few people but clearly not as this area was the busiest I've ever seen a place in the lakes.. thanks for watching Ashley, tek care lad 🙂

Didn't recognise you without the hat. Don't know these hills but nice enough walks by the look of it apart from the forestry commission clearances and the tumble. I've seen pine martens in the Highlands but never in the Lakes.
@daveostlemountainman2 ай бұрын
@@gbfch someone else said that on the hill itself... they only half recognised me and were confused why I didnt have a hat on haha. Aye it's a bit of a wasteland in some areas but still loads of forest.. cheers 🙂

Afternoon Marra. A couple of nice easy fells there, some great views, a little easy on the knees coming down than Lad Howes. A busy looking one too in terms of Latterbarrow and Carron Crag, and what a magnificent cairn on Latterbarrow. ! 😀🥾⛰

aye im pretty sure these will be the busiest 2 outlying fells.. along with orrest head.. this area is very much alien to me, especially esthwaite water but aye, giv the ol knees a rest this week haha :)

Interesting to see different approaches to the fells. I did Claife Heights from Far Sawrey this time round pretty much following Wainwright's route and it was a grand walk especially around Moss Eccles tarn. Didn't bother with Latterbarrow and Carron Crag as I did those in the 1970's (can't remember much though!). Nice that you included the fall, I had one on Whit Fell but left it out, wasn't sure if I should included the well captured F*** or bleep it out!

aye lovely walk but a little bit too touristy for me.. didn't really know about hawkshead or grizedale forest previously but wow its a busy area.. guess including falls or not depends on how professional ya want your content to be.. i make no claim to be 'good at this' or 'serious route guides' so ill include them if I think its funny.. cheers lad :)

Yess dave lad newts deer pines and of course a great fall 😂 that peice of tree you picked up was not meant to be lol these were impressive trigs on this hike but the war head brilliant it always amazes me why folk think I'm gonna make a art peice and take it into the middle of nowhere and put it here but each to there suppose marra nice day again to bag these 3 off good job 😂be like dave haha
