CAKE BATTER -1 1/2 cup baking flour -3/4 cup sugar -1 tsp baking powder -1 tsp baking soda -pinch of salt -1 stick of butter -tsp of vanilla -3/4 cup butter milk -1/4 cup oil -2 whole eggs plus 3 egg whites COCONUT FILLING -sugar 3/4 cup - 1/4 cup coconut oil -1 cup shredded coconut -1/2 cup heavy cream -pinch of salt COCONUT MILK SOAK -1/2 can coconut milk -1/4 cup sugar -pinch of salt -tsp vanilla COCONUT FROSTING I didn’t use their recipe -1 1/2 cup heavy cream whipped -vanilla -1 can of sweeten condensed milk -toasted coconut for the outside of the cake Hope this helped

You can fully/almost fully assemble lots of cakes with perfect success, they’ll still taste amazing once defrosted. If you have to make a lot of cake for a crowd (and might want to do as much as possible in advance because of a stressful and difficult to coordinate event) it can be a good option. If you want it frosted (as opposed to naked sides) you have to ice it after thawing, but baking it in advance can cut out a lot of work close to the big day!

2:40 anything wrong with handheld mixers, they've always worked fine for me
@summerbandicoot47615 жыл бұрын
The main disadvantage is that you can’t switch out the mixing attachments. Some recipes will explicitly call for the paddle attachment not the whisk attachment to avoid beating too much air into a batter/mix (which sometimes leads to collapse after baking). Practically speaking that’s the main downside, but the stand mixer also has the advantage of being able to walk away from it and let it mix on its own. Especially if you’re doing something like an Italian meringue frosting which can take a while, it’s nice to not have to stand there the whole time. I also haven’t found any handheld mixers with the ability to control speed in the way that stand mixers do. Often handheld mixers start at a pretty fast pace and only get faster - there’s no true low/stir setting, whereas stand mixers go from very slow to very fast. A stand mixer’s whisk attachment is also larger and can work more air into a mixture more efficiently than a hand mixer. Plus you have both hands available to pour things into the mixing bowl, no fumbling around one-handed. HOWEVER bakers have been using hand mixers exclusively for a long time (or even no mixer at all) with perfect success so if you rarely bake, it might not be a great choice to drop $400 on a stand mixer. If you do get a nice one it opens more options for what you can make too - stand mixers typically come with a paddle, whisk, and bread hook attachment, but you can often purchase extra accessories for making ice cream, rolling pasta, etc. But if your hand mixer works for you then there’s not necessarily any need to change that!
@isabelnecessary59155 жыл бұрын
@@summerbandicoot4761 ah I see. I just fold it with a spatula if I don't want to know the air out but I see that advantage to stand mixers. Personally I like to bake a bit but not enough to justify buying a stand mixer so the hand held works well enough for me.

Great job on editing. Claire you’re fun to watch and you explain in detail really well. I like how you explain gluten and the different types for cakes. Great job!

goodness me! the kind of effort went into making these cakes. I mean for every stage, she showed what could go wrong or what's right with examples. it is not easy at all. I was thinking of buying an otg and trying my hand in baking, now after seeing this video it seems super tough. I might need to enter a culinary school, I think. 😅

Where can I find the recipes used in this series?

As usual, Claire has provided invaluable information in a wonderfully enjoyable video. I watched the whole series last night and ordered tons of equipment that will arrive tomorrow. Today, in preparation for the birthday cake, I wanted to write down the recipe. Much to my dismay no actual amounts have been provided. If you see this Claire, the community would be even more indebted to you if a recipe would be provided. Thanks for all your work.

How’d making the cake end up going?

That sir is the reason for the video, selling you equipment you don't need to bake a good cake. I'm not being mean just honest. If you happen to get in to bread making I have tons of equipment for that I'll sell. I don't think one item made me a better bread-maker experience did that.
