A tip is to lay cling film over the clay before you cut it. It gives you lovely rounded edges. If you want to skip the plaiting, just use twists and alternate the direction you twist on the strands as you lay them out. Don’t use any straight strands though. It comes out looking a lot like a knitted pattern. Also you don’t really need a base, if you want thinner hearts.

I make quite a bit of polymer clay jewellery, but I've never owned an extruder. Having watched this, it might be time to get one. Gold and light pink are not my colours, but these look really cute. I personally glue studs on earrings with epoxy glue, because it seems to stick well, and unlike uv resin, it cures under the studs, too. Uncured uv resin can irritate the skin, and even though it's cured on the surface, I wouldn't risk the uncured resin seeping through at some point. Also, if you're planning on making more of these, I recommend investing in flat nose pliers without the teeth (as in smooth), preferrably two of them. If you use pliers with teeth, you'll end up scratching the gold plated surface of the findings, and the findings will wear off more quickly. Also, if you go from zen mode to manufacturing mode, you can always make silicone moulds from the polymer clay pieces, and use them from then on. Not that it's nearly as fun.

These are adorable. You can also use the polymer clay for making molds out of them. (Not that you want to, but you could.) You could also make your own inlay sheets or special silicone inlays with it. Just be sure to coat the polymer clay once baked, if you want it a shiny surface. A tip for those that do not have coated pliers or tools, is to use washi tape/making tape on them and it helps to keep the tools from scuffing the wires, rings or eyelets. Have a wonderful day.

I am so happy that you are becoming more comfortable with using polymer clay. It is a wonderful medium to work with. I have used it for 35+ years. I bought foam board that is for putting under your knees to garden. It is helpful to pin the top of your clay to the board when you are twisting or braiding your cords. You want to put clay over the metal edge of your earring backs to help hold them on. Also when adding a head pin or straight object into the clay you want to put a bend into it or it could easily be pulled out. With a bend it can't be pulled out.

The extruder reminds me of those playdough sets. When i was a kid, i had one that was a hair salon...you put the little playdough person in the chair...if you pressed down on the chair, the "hair" came out in lil skinny pieces like the extruder did...then you could cut it or braid it. 😂 This looks AMAZING, Claire!!💜🤯💜

If you want to make sure polymer clay sticks to itself brush on a small amount of translucent liquid clay before adding the extruded pieces. It also works on clay that is already baked as it acts like a glue. I know unbaked polymer usually sticks to itself - but not always.
@lechatbotte.11 ай бұрын
Get some bake and bond, they renamed it but when applied to un baked clay to adhere to itself when baked. No fiddling with any thing else. Plaiting plate ing is fun.

I dont want to sound negative, but the UV resin will not be cured behind the posts. There is no way for the UV rays to be there. You could just use the resin over the entire back, over the post. Or use a glue to hold the post, first. I think they are adorable.❤ A rub with some gold shimmer powder would be pretty on them, too. Or pearl.
