For 3 days I had no name until my mother was watching this movie and she looked down and realised that Ayla was a fitting name for me. I'm so glad she choose that name for me, and for my 18th birthday she gave me the complete book series.

This is one film I would love to see remade using the technology we have now... I get why the author was stung, but this film did have some good moments like this one, and the right director could being Clan of the Cave bear back to lifer again.

In the novel, not even Uba has courage to talk to Ayla as she's now "dead" and ghost/spirit to them. Creb is the only one (aside little Durc) who acknowledges her existence after the banishment, although after signing with her briefly, he too puts on the "empty gaze" and ignores her. EDIT: Or was it Brun, the old leader? Creb has already died from old age by that time, yes... Only Durc cries after her because he doesn't understand what is going on... and then Uba drags him away from Ayla so she (who they see now as a vengeful spirit) won't drag him with her to "Land of the dead"... This is so different from the novel.

Everytime i think about these stories i feel profoundly insignificant. For the last 75.000 years or more likely much longer can you imagine the amount of great ppl that have lived there life and passed from the annals of time amazing stories of triumph and despair the rise and fall of communitys and society's never to be remembered as though they had never existed some stories that might be so amazing that it would not believed today but then i think how we are carried here on the backs of our ancestors we are still apart of those untold and forgotten deeds so in many ways their story goes on... what a great set of books great work but wish she would've given us just one more i would like to have met aylas great grandchildren lol...maybe a few more lol..sometimes greed isnt a horrible thing.😊☺ i suspect im not the only one to ask the boon

Yeah I know what you mean. What's one the best things I like about this movie is the music. I even like the way they changed the ending. Instead of Ayla being banished from the Clan ordered by that piece of shit Broud, (which is in the book) Ayla fights against him and wins the fight before Broud's father kicks his son out of the Clan.

Great book series! I´ve read them several times, especially first 3. They should make a new version of the movie, and book 2 and 3. at least! I think with technology today it would be possible to make Neanderthal- people look realistic, and scenes like mammoth hunt and such. I don´t quite remember the movie, but they rarely do justice for the original book and one´s imagination.

I’ve always thought this would make an amazing series too. With how many people love the books and today’s technology it’s totally possible and would be awesome. I’ve been seeing rumours pop up here and there in some comments saying Netflix’s may have actually been considering doing this, let’s hope because it would be wicked. I only wish I had read these books before I had my daughter so I could have named her Ayla. I actually came across the series completely by accident when I happened to see a copy of Valley of the Horses while looking for a new book to read. I’ve always been a huge fan of horses so the title caught my attention, I read this book first and loved it so I started researching and that’s when I found out about the whole series, then of course I read them all only to have to wait for the last book to be released lol.

Read all but the last, haven't seen the movie though, in my opinion they were ok but valley of horses was epic, I thought she was credited with a few to many innovations at the detriment of realism. It was frustrating the amount of messed up thing's that happened because Ayla and Jondalar wouldn't just say how they felt about each other, in stark contrast to the last opinion I gave - I suppose that was realism in spades. It was annoying the amount of reiterating throughout the books, I realize it was for those who picked up the series partway through, but for those of us who read them in sequence - I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt like they read the earlier books over and over again.
@Jon_from_LI
@Jon_from_LI 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't mind the reiterating throughout the books as much as I did the paragraphs on paragraphs of archeological descriptions that kind of dragged the story. Even though I enjoyed the stories overall, I have to admit that I skimmed through some pages that really didn't really keep with the flow of the narrative.

@@Jon_from_LI gosh, I'd actually forgotten about those until you mentioned it, that's right - about the mother statues, and migration across the Bering sea ....actually that's about all I can remember, you'll have to forgive me, it was about 2010 when I read them, I had to Google Ayla's love interest to find Jondalar's name, which was kept coming back to me as Joel lol. I agree though, I would have rather been fed that in a preface all at once, rather than how it was injected here and there, breaking up the flow of the story. The set I read belonged to my mum but she didn't have the sixth one, would you recommend it?....

I don't know of any other books about prehistoric times, but if you like stories of survival, Island of the Blue Dolphins is short but good. The Gone series by Michael Grant is about kids under 14 having to survive on their own. It's set in modern day though. If it's Ayla's character you liked the most, the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore has similarly strong female leads who go against convention (set in a fictional world). None of those have graphic sex scenes though. 😂 Oh, and if you liked the feeling of an ancient and sometimes brutal culture, Lisa See's books set in ancient China are amazing: 'Peony in Love' and 'Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.' 😊

"The People of the..." series by this married couple. People of the Fox, People of the Wolf, People of the Owl, People of the Masks, People of the Lightning, etc. Each book follows a different tribe, clan, or nation from prehistoric North America. There's also Ivory & Bone by Julie Eshbaugh. The duology is for teens so there's no sex but it's in the same time period. There's also The Ivory Carver Trilogy, about the Aleut nation set waaay back. And then there's She Who Remembers by Linda Lay Shuler, which is a little more recent but still back before Columbus, I think. And this one is actually fantasy, but The Woman Who Loved Reindeer by Meredith Ann Pierce, which is an old novella from the 70s or 80s set in prehistoric times but with magic.

Imala sam sve knjige od početka do "doline povratka,nju nisam imala,prije rata,u ratu smo morali upotrijebiti svu našu biblioteku Jer nismo imali struju,i to mi je bilo teško izložiti sve knjige da napravimo uštipke,poslije rata polako popunjavam biblioteku,i veoma me raduju nove knjige o Ejlinim i Džondalarovim pustolovinama.😢😅😊Riki.

I want to write the whole situation but I"ll just summarize. I tried to show this to my niece. Niece pitches a giant fit. Grandmother and I watch it. I then show grandmother Shanidar I and IV. She cries. I cry. Grandmother agrees niece needs to watch this movie. Someday.

Imagine if Amazon remade this. If so, Ayla would be East Indian transgender while Creb would be a woman.

On some levels I could see why this book would appeal as a film (which I haven't seen); but there are a couple of important aspects that wouldn't translate to film. Firstly, Neanderthals cannot be accurately depicted by human actors as the former had no foreheads, and no amount of makeup or costuming could disguise these. Secondly, an audience would not tolerate the repeated rape of an 11 year-old girl by a 16 year-old young man (which does happen in the book). Even with today's CGI technology which could tackle the first problem, the script would have to be re-written to get around the second - which would defeat the story as there would have to be an alternate explanation for how Ayla became pregnant. Films by the subsequent books might translate well to film as all the characters are human, but a) without the stage having been set by the first book, subsequent films wouldn't make much sense (unless perhaps flashbacks were inserted), and b) the other books still contain a lot of VERY graphic sex scenes (which I could have done without), which would again have to be "implied" or otherwise written around to avoid NC-17 or X ratings.

They could just allude to it. They have done movies where little kids are molested before without showing it on-screen.

This is a book that I wish they would make another adaptation from..to make it more correct to what we know now through genetics..like the fact that Ayla should have dark skin and the neanderthals should have lighter skin and red hair....and people didn't live in caves...they seemed to be forms of proto temples.

Why the fuck is creb still alive? I am on the third book now and it has been repeated over 50 times what Creb looked like and that he DIED before she left the cave (if things wouldn't get repeated that often, the books would be way shorter) so euhm. Why. Just read what happens in the book, and act it out, too difficult?
