Whenever I visit a new mom there’s a few things I do in case others are wanting ideas on what can be helpful for new parents: 1. I don’t ask to hold the baby. If mom offers, I’ll accept but I never ask. 2. I always bring a casserole that can be frozen for later or thrown into the oven and is ready to go. Bonus if you bring plates/utensils etc! I like to do a casserole because sometimes they get many dishes at once and then they’re overwhelmed with trying to eat everything before it goes bad. That’s why it’s always ready for the oven, or freezer! 3. I always (not in an obvious way) look to see if I can do something, and offer to do it. Maybe it’s the dishes, or vacuuming since that’s a big no postpartum. Fold laundry etc. 4. I don’t over stay. I know it’s nice to see the baby, and to talk. But sometimes mom is just trying to stay awake, or is struggling with breastfeeding. So don’t stay half the day! 5. If mom has older children, see if you can take them to the park, to your house to play etc. It’s nice when you have a little time with just your new baby. I will sometimes depending on the person/situation offer to help with the older kids/baby if they are in desperate need of a little nap or maybe want to shower. But if they say no, respect that and don’t push them.

@@ClancyBurkeX after having a few babies you start to know what is helpful and what to avoid. 😅😂 I would eventually love to become a postpartum doula. But right now my focus is on my own children. ♥️

@@brooklin_bernek I’m so sorry, it’s never easy when you’re doing it alone! You may want to see if you can find a postpartum doula in your area. I wish I was able to be of help but I’m assuming you’re likely not in Michigan? 😅

I agree with Zac! They should have something more comfortable for the support person. My husband is 6 feet 4 inches and all he had was a tiny couch. I had a c-section and could barely move. He was taking care of the baby when I wasn’t feeding him. Also, you are doing awesome. Thank you for keeping it real. We had a rough go of it when we brought him home too, and I wish there was more videos that showed the hard stuff. My parenting list went out the window the moment he was born, lol.

I’ve heard men say the same as Zac about what “Dad” should bring to the hospital. He has a valid point. Yes, it’s all about “Mom” but Dad’s matter also. You gotta love how he was trying to double down on the not researching part. Just do as you’re told. Classic Zac. 🤣

I’ve never heard of the black blood puking. I’ve had 3 kids. But I can see how that can happen. The nurses and doctors would be there all day if they had to explain all the maybes that can happen and we already have to learn enough esp as a first time mom (and dad). It’s already information overload! I say all that but I’m sure he was very caught off guard and I would feel the same! ❤ you guys are doing a great job. It’s such a blessing to have grandparents or whoever you trust to be able to help with the baby.

The sleepiness will get better. I think it has something to do with the hormone your body releases while breastfeeding. For me, it felt like I was being drugged as I fed my baby. Eventually that stopped though. I think he was around 10-12 weeks old when it got better

Boy, Having a baby has changed so much now. Back in the 80's and 90's most of us did not have nursery or special contraptions. I was the bottle washer. I remember coming home from delivering an almost ten pound baby and a week later cooking an entire Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family this included shopping and planning and clean up. All by myself. Hubby worked long hours and grave yard shift. Times have changed so so much.

My husband worked out of town when I had my daughter. He went back after a few days. I was alone with her for 1-2 weeks at a time. No grocery or food delivery other than pizza at that time. We decided to move where he was working so I packed up an apartment and we moved when she was 6 weeks old.

Great job, Momma❤ ! I breastfed exclusively,my two boys . I Didn’t have a breast pump or any kind of a pump. Believe me when I tell you, you do not dry up! But if you’re going to work, or having other people feed with bottles, You probably need to Pump . I had my kids in the early 80s. It was such a different time. All my friends breast-fed, it was no big deal. Nobody said to cover up or go somewhere else or any of that. It was a really good time!

Your hair looks good. It really looks healthy and shiny. With our first baby, I ordered the biggest package of newborn pictures offered, which I would never recommend because you don't need many overpriced newborn portraits. We had one boy, and we are Caucasian. When they delivered our pictures, they were pictures of twin black baby girls. They couldn't have gotten that more wrong. They refused to refund our money because we opened the pictures. We couldn't know they weren't our pictures if we hadn't opened them. I just left them with the hospital in case the twins' parents came looking for their baby pictures, but we never got our son's pictures (this was before all pictures were digital) and we had paid a very large amount for them. I never ordered newborn pictures again with our other children. We just took our own until our 3 month old professional pictures.

Because you get to a point sometimes where the baby is not feeding as often but you're still producing breast milk so you pump it to store for another meal and it gives the dad an opportunity to feed the baby as well.
