Question about entering crystal caves - you can't use boot symbols, so that means you can't move out of the cave at all, or you just can't move out via a path that has the boot symbols on it? So, at 13:05, for example, can you move back out via the top path with no boots? Or you basically can't move out for the rest of your turn at all? Thanks! I've basically been binge watching your channel today to find new games!
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben, with Crystal caves, it's just that once you enter one, you lose the ability to use boots for the rest of that turn (thematically, the idea is that they are so difficult to travel in, they wear you out). At the start of your next turn, you can move as normal.

Wow! Expertly presented. Thank you so much for creating this video. We've played once and pretty much learned the game but we have some beginners' questions. Q1) The "Wand of Recall" allows the player to teleport to an "ADJACENT" room. Can you clarify adjacent? Can I go to a room that's immediately near the room I'm in but is not connected to the room I'm in by a tunnel? Q2) The "Secret Tome" cards cost 7 and are worth 7 at the end of the game, but they offer no boots, no swords, no special powers. Why would I want to buy one? We pretty much ignored them until they were all there was left to buy. Q3) Can one player buy both the backpacks? more than one crown? Q4) Mr Whiskers says the dragon attacks or -2 clank. Well, I can only think of a couple rare circumstances where I would want a dragon attack. If I don't have any cubes on the clank banner can I choose the -2 clank option and just say "all good", or do I have to have 2 clank which I can reclaim in order to use that option?
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
Hey Paulie, I'll see what I can do to help: 1) The room must be connected by a tunnel. 2) You would want them for their points. They aren't too great early on (as you say, they don't offer you much when you're trying to perform actions), BUT they are worth a lot of points, and points are how you win :) 3) Yes, you can buy more than one. 4) You may choose the -2 Clank! option for this card even when you have no Clank! in the Clank! area.

I guess the only 2 questions I have are 1. How does picking up minors work exactly? I get that when I enter I can pick it up, but let's say that I have enough movement to leave the room and re-enter. Could I pick up the second one as well? Also, let's say I end my turn in this room picking up one minor secret and there was one more. Can I start my next turn picking up the minor and then leave? 2. The use of swords for dungeon travels. After my 5 card draw I have 3 swords, I want to move through a tunnel with the monster symbol, do I just need at least one sword to pass and then I'll still have 3 swords to spend on cards, or once I use that one sword to pass I drop down to only 2 I can use?
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
1. Yep, if you leave and re-enter, you can pick up the other token as well. You only pick up the token when you enter the room, so starting your turn already there wouldn't let you pick up the token. 2. Each time you pass through a monster space, if you want, you can spend a sword to not take the damage, but the sword you use, is spent for that turn, you can't use it again for something else. Hope that helps!

Hi Rodney! A question. When you buy the Secret Tome, does it go into your discard pile or get sets aside because it only gives you points? If it goes into the discard pile, does that mean it starts to clog up your hand? Because it's really quite useless for game play, but useful only for end of game scoring.
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
That's right - it stays in your deck and can clog up your hand. So while it's great points, you have to be a little careful

I'm a bit confused about the drawing and using of cards. Did you say we have to play all cards we draw? So basically we are just drawing and playing 5 cards every round?
@CobisTaba7 жыл бұрын
The order matters, you can draw more with some cards and you can trash cards to make your deck stronger. As in, you remove weak cards, buy strong cards and thus when you recycle your deck (reshuffle) you have a better deck to draw from.
@macurvello7 жыл бұрын
That's right, Oscar. That's the mechanic of most deck building games, except you don't usually have to actually play all the cards although you do have to discard the ones you don't use. In Clank, you have to play them and resolve their effects. Also, what Lex says is true.
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
You get to pick the order you play the cards in, but you must play all of them (unless an effect from a card you play, let's you discard or trash another card from your hand).

Hi! I'm not sure if you're still helping to clarify rules but here it goes: You said that we can benefit from the effect on a card later on your turn if you manage to meet the requirements on later actions. We were wondering if that logic applies to currency gain, specifically the card ''search''. The card says: ''Each time you gain gold this turn, increase the amount you gain by one''. Would that also work if we played a card that gives us gold just before playing ''search''? Thanks. By the way, my friends and I love your videos. Every time we buy a new game, it's a delight to realize there's a tutorial video done by you. The way you you deliver the information is amazing. It's streamlined, the rules follow a clear pattern easy to follow and the complexity escalates perfectly. Your tone and the energy you put in the explanations keep our attention and help us assimilate everything easily.
@WatchItPlayed3 ай бұрын
I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. Thanks so much for the kind words on the videos, that really means a lot :)

bigtiga kid Only when you would need to draw and your deck is empty. At that point you shuffle your discard into a new face down draw pile.
@vuongnguyenwnw48757 жыл бұрын
May I ask, what happens if I play some cards first and move to a Crystal cave while still have movements which basically cant use it anymore, however after i play more cards in my hand to draw new cards, i draw a "Dead Run" card which allow me to be not stop in Crystal Cave, so does the movements left over before i enter the Crystal Cave still counts or only counts the movements start from the moment i play the "Dead Run" card?
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
Good question! I must say, I really don't know. Would be easier if I knew the specific card text. The rules do say "Whenever you enter a Crystal Cave room, you become exhausted while wandering its maze-like passages and cannot use any more Boots this turn." That said, if the effect does indeed cancel the effect of the Crystal Cave, then 'maybe' it would let you reuse your leftover boots. I tend to avoid interpreting specific cards, as that's best left to the designers and publishers to give an official answer.
@vuongnguyenwnw48757 жыл бұрын
Well, the situation was my friend was at Crystal Cave with some movements left and he used "Sleight of Hand" to "Discard 1 card on hand to draw 2 cards", and one of the 2 cards was "Dead Run" which "+2 Clank and You don't have to stop in Crystal Caves this turn". The problem cause some talk between my friends and we all agree afterward to reuse leftover boots since "Luck" is a part of the game, you don't get to draw a "Don't stop in Crystal Caves" everytime. Anyway, tks for the reply, love the video, I always watch your video before reading the rules and it really save the time and confusion a lot.
@petermiller66777 жыл бұрын
Great video, very clearly explains the rules. I have a couple of questions: when the game ends (last person escapes the dungeon, or last person gets knocked out), are they allowed to finish their turn (eg. play cards, use their skill points to acquire more items), or does the game end immediately? Also, if the dragon is at the end of the rage track, and there's a monster card in the Dungeon Row that says to pull an extra cube when the dragon attacks, do we draw 6 cubes? That's how we've been playing it. Thanks! Peter
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that you would finish your turn if you cause the game to end. And yes to your second question.
@petermiller66777 жыл бұрын
Thanks!
@blakecurry38807 жыл бұрын
If you teleport into a crystal cave as your first action, does that prevent you from using boots? I would think not since teleportation doesn't count as movement.
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
The rules for the Crystal Cave read: "Whenever you enter a Crystal Cave room, you become exhausted while wandering its maze-like passages and cannot use any more Boots this turn.". Although the teleport doesn't count as movement, the triggering effect is "entering" the cave, which still applies as I understand it.

@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
You can play your cards all at once, or one at a time (which if you had a discard effect, would let you discard something you hadn't played yet). From the rules say: "You can wait and take your actions after you’ve played all of your cards, or you can take actions between cards if you wish" Hope that helps!

Usually we play where we replace the dragon row every time every time the a card gets bought. Is that not correct? I think I was taught wrong.
@WatchItPlayed6 жыл бұрын
You only replace bought cards at the end of a player's turn. It's very important to do it this way, as even if more than 1 Dragon Attack symbols are revealed at this point, you only resolve a dragon attack once.
@lornepribbeno37606 жыл бұрын
Doing it this other way we did it makes it harder I think. There are more dragon attacks, some right in the middle of a players turn. Adds a level of suspense and consequence for yourself if you make off with too many cards. But it did create a rather long turn for someone who got amazingly lucky with her draws.
@WatchItPlayed6 жыл бұрын
And hey, if you enjoyed doing it that way, you can always make that your own house rule :)

Hi Rodney. I have a question about the Wand of Wind. When it says "teleport to an adjacent room", does that room have to be connected by a white line, or can it simply be physically adjacent on the board? In the example you showed, the crystal cave was connected to the market place in the upper left corner of the screen but there was a second market place space in the lower left, which is also adjacent, but not connected.

@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
I think you might be talking about two different things. The section here talks about what to do when a dragon attacks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4u0qqVrf9CVeLsm4s However, a dragon advancing on the track is something that happens every time an Artifact is picked up, and whenever a Dragon Egg (a type of Minor Secret) is discovered (or some other effect advances it).

You don't get to look at them before taking them. You take one randomly (but I recommend just taking the top one, so there's less chance you accidentally reveal the other one).

Hello! Great video. There are a couple questions I have. 1. At the very beginning of the game, after you draw a dungeon row, and there are no “Dragon attack cards”, the first player draws no boots. That player proceeds to purchase a card from the dungeon row and their turn has ended. The dungeon row is replenished with a card that provokes a dragon attack. At this point there is no one in the dungeon yet. Does the dragon attack? (While no one is in the dungeon and there are no player clank cubes on the board). And if the dragon attacks, do we just take the appropriate # of dragon cubes out of the bag, which would affect the probability later. I know it’s rare but I’ve played this so much, I’ve seen it happen a couple times. Also 2. If you have a card with a “discard” ability, do you have to perform the “discard” action? Is it optional? It’s rare, but let’s say you really like all the other cards on your draw and you don’t want to risk drawing a “stumble”. A card example of this is : “sleight of hand” which says “discard a card to draw 2 cards.” Thanks for your time and the awesome videos!
@WatchItPlayed6 жыл бұрын
At the beginning of the game, each player should have placed clank cubes on the board depending on their turn order. So if the Dragon attacks early in the game, even before players have begun moving into the dungeon, there are cubes there for the dragon to add to the bag and potentially begin damaging players. To answer your second question... Card effects are not optional. This is super important, because otherwise you would almost never choose to gain +1 Clank from a Stumble card for example. The only exception to this is the resources generated such as swords, skill, or boots. However, the order you resolve cards is up to you and you could choose to activate Sleight of Hand last after your hand is empty, negating it's effect. Or use it to discard a Stumble before you are forced to add clank.
@cdj811756 жыл бұрын
Watch It Played thank you so much for the timely response. I totally forgot about the adding clank rule for player order before we start. So that explains that and that makes perfect sense about the card effects as well. Thanks for being one of my most valued resources for gaming. Oh, and are you considering doing a video for “Lords of Hellas”? I would love to see that. It’s a popular game and there aren’t a lot of instructional videos available for it yet. Ok I’m done 😁👍

After the dragon attacks, do your color cubes come back out to the 'Clank!' area so they can be subject to negative clank effects, or stay in the bag?
@WatchItPlayed5 жыл бұрын
Hey Lex, do you mean the ones that you put in the bag from the Clank area when the dragon attacked? If so, no. Well, except for the cubes that you pull out "because" of the dragon attacking, but those become wounds. You don't pull out extra cubes after that to refill the Clank area.

Hey Rodney, I have more of a general question rather than a specific question about Clank. What are your thoughts on board games coming with "companion apps"? I'm not saying it's a trend but, this is the second game I've seen recently that has had one available for it (Mansions of Madness, Second Edition being the other game). I'm sort of torn on them. I do enjoy how it has streamlined and brought Mansions of Madness to "life" in a sense but, on the other hand, part of the fun and allure of board gaming is the "unplugged" aspect of it. With all that being said, I understand that the companion app for this game isn't necessary or at least as much as it is required for Mansions 2E, I'm just curious on your thoughts (and others thoughts) on this "potential" trend with board gaming. Thanks for all your content.
@macurvello7 жыл бұрын
Just FYI, Clank does not require the app to be played, as opposed to Mansions of Madness 2nd edition, XCOM, Alchemists etc. I think companion apps like Clank's, Codenames' etc. only add to the experience ;) I also don't have anything against the ones that are required for that matter.
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
They don't really bother me. Ultimately, reading text off a screen strikes me as similar to reading text off a card. I don't think the apps in these cases cause me to interact less with my friends. I can understand a person not wanting a screen in their game, but assuming one treats it as just another tool in the game, I don't think it's likely pose a problem for most people. And yes, to be clear, in Clank, the app is purely optional.

I am unclear on what do with Dungeon Deck card purple banner when you first buy them. Do you need to use them before the end of your turn, do they go into your hand or your discard pile until you draw them, then they can be used? If you use them then their value cannot be counted toward your total?
@WatchItPlayed5 жыл бұрын
It must be used as soon as it is purchased, and then it is sent immediately to the "dungeon" discard pile (not your own). You will find this explained around 9:53.

@@WatchItPlayed There's a funny story behind that. After a couple of plays I really wanted a co-op experience with Clank, so I spent hours and days trying to design one. I eventually got so far away from the Clank game I ended up designing my own game called Tracers. I printed a board and components, acquired an artist, and toured the convention circuit, intending to eventually kickstart it. I met dozens of amazing folks and had an absolute blast for a couple of years, until health issues forced me to give it all up. Although I failed in my ultimate goal I would do it all again in a heartbeat because I had so much fun...and I have Clank to thank for that. But I haven't played Clank again since. :P

Thanks for all this explanation, but I have a question. If I succeeded in escaping and moved to the abnormal roles, and the other player is still playing, and he bought a card at the end of the player's turn, the dragon card appears. Will the dragon attack twice, once from the card and the other time from my turn?

@@WatchItPlayed Thank you for the answer. If there is no inconvenience, there is another question. When I buy cards, new cards are revealed, and there were Dragon cards in a total of three. When you acquire a Secret Tome card for 7 skills, does the card go to your discard and will be drawn later, for no effect (other than occupying one of your 5 cards in your hand). Or can it be put aside with artifacts, secrets, etc. and the 7 points are counted at the end of the game?
