She's right that Hollywood didn't respect her tremendous abilities as a serious actress. Even films that were fairly shoddy and lightweight and required her in some scenes to "show skin" demonstrate her superb acting skills. By the way, nothing wrong with her voice.

@@stevenroland7472 “Kid Boots” was good, “It” and “Mantrap.” There is a fictional book as her as Character in it recently, “Winging It” by H.P. Oliver. Even though it’s a fictional story it’s surprising very good. Amazon as E-Book.

The studio rushed her into talkies and didn't help her confidence. She developed a bad habit of staring up at the microphone during scenes. One time she panicked and tried to attack it.

Well said and well put. Her voice was indeed fine for talkies. During the 20s Paramount worked her like a dog and paid her no where near what she was worth. Drove her to a nervous breakdown, poor lady. She seemed so sweet & genuine. I think that's the main reason the public & her co-workers loved her. Thank you for your insightful comment.

@@davidthedeaf that’s a slight Brooklyn accent in this film, albeit toned down for the cameras. In the few other clips available, her accent is noticeable as well, but you have to listen for it. I still haven’t found a recording of her with a consistent Brooklyn accent, though she is said to have had a very distinctive one.

@@fonso1030 @davidthedeaf nah that's definitely a New York accent. Listen to how she says the word "gorgeous" and "picture". She curls the r. Not much as some other speakers, but she does it. I could tell she was a New Yorker from the first few seconds, being from New York myself.

Fascinating ! Thanks for sharing ! I've long been intrigued by the life & career of Clara Bow, one of true icons of the Silent Screen. She seems very happy in the footage. She's put on weight since her 20s heydey but was still a lovely lady. And what a handsome hubby. CHEERS !

Wonder if it's still there !?? Why was it called a ' bungalow " was it on the lot of Paramount '0r a cute garden home? Can we tour it ?? Why did she live ALONE from her husband? Exactly ....she was DARLING .& MR Bell loved her so MUCH..they loved ea other & had happy times two precious little boys all u hear is the bad things why not anymore happy fun things !!?? Fickle Hollywood & that's being kind of coarse they paid her$$$$ but I don't think treated her nicely ..I would of loved to be her friend.....she was precious 😘🤗🖐️💓💓🇺🇸so sweet u can tell...& Rex adored her ..I'm soooo sorry to hear something of mental break down ...we women are delicate ..I'm sure her hubby did everything he could ...& I'm sure she loved him ALWAYS maybe lived alone last few yrs to not bother Him ..idk . sacrifices we women make when we Love 💕 😓😔💚🙏loved her movies too!!!

No she wasn't. She had signed a lucrative 2-picture contract with Fox. The first picture, "Call Her Savage", had recently been released and was a huge success. As a reward, Fox sent her on this 2-month tour of Europe.

@@dueroden no, it was over. Paramount dropped her, and the audience moved on. None of her three remaining films did big BO. Time changed.

@@ShadowsOnTheScreen Incorrect. Both of Bow's pictures with Fox were successful. Paramount production head Ben Schulberg (who pressured Bow to seek a release of her contract with Paramount) was blamed for the deficits the studio now suffered and was fired.

She'd had it with Hollywood; can't say I blamed her. That she did quit before she was 30, and spent the last half of her life pretty much out of the spotlight says much about the abuses she endured in her younger years. Be at peace.
