How cute was that. And when i think about people saying she didn't sound good! Her voice was beautiful ❤️ ♥️ ❤️ rip Miss Bow ❤️ 💕 ❤️

The unfit voice myth is baloney. Clara would have been one of the great stars of the 30's and 40's if she had persisted.

They asked Clara if she wanted the role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind". She said no.

She was so cute, so sweet, and so adorable in this scene. I've never seen this movie, but this seems like a decent scene for a 1929 early sound film. Thanks for sharing this.

What an incredibly uninhibited method of character portrayal. Light years before her time, so refreshing to see.

she was better then the other actors, even Gary Cooper said no one could compete with Clara Bow

This was filmed in 1929! And Clara Bow is totally real and honest. All other performances from this time are stiff and "actory." Clara understood how to act before the silent and sound camera. It's maddening that her so-called peers looked down on her. Guess they couldn't recognize genius.

Some couldn't recognize, and some were jealous. 🖤👽 She was a natural not contrived. 🖤👽

its becase she was from a poor family, from Brooklyn (with a stiff Brooklyn accent she couldn't get rid of) and had no formal training. Pretty crazy considering the backgrounds of some of the other actors at the time.

Love everything about Ms. Bow. Her talent, that beautiful red hair. Her smile was second to none. But for me, she's got the most mesmerizing eye's.

This is proof that Clara had no trouble with the talkies. If she had "microphone fright" (as they say), then based on what I see here, she must have been one of the bravest girls in the world!... Beauty, charisma, and talent, all rolled into one. (How many times does THAT happen?)... Anyway... Thanks for the upload!

it was prejudice due to her Brooklyn accent. It worked here, obviously.

She has the Brooklyn accent here which seems appropriate for what this role seems to be from this brief clip (she's a working girl here not a debutante). But in her last two films, she didn't. Her voice is fine. I think the story that she didn't have a voice for the talkies is nonsense.
@RadicalCaveman7 жыл бұрын
You're right, her voice is just fine. She didn't like the microphone, though, and the studio didn't like her, and flappers were going out of style, and then she had a nervous breakdown and didn't want to do it any more.
@telephilia7 жыл бұрын
Too bad, because as far as talent and looks go, she could have been a star much longer.
@RadicalCaveman7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a real shame. Retired at 28. She was so alive onscreen, with or without sound.

Her last two movies were both hits, another reason she could have kept on going. But she had enough of Hollywood.

@@RadicalCaveman Those damn film snobs (Pickford, Fairbanks, etc.) considered her common. Joan Crawfish was a friend ... that is, until she married Doug, Jr., & got all "classy" ...

Clara was just like the girl in the movie. She was a natural actress. She played herself. No one could match her. She was cute as a button and a personality to match. Alas she was no match for the sharks in Hollywood. She worked her head off for years making lots of $$$ for her studio and then was dropped and never heard from again.
