Clarence White and Tony Rice New River Train

Very rare recording of Clarence White and Tony Rice. Clarence's guitar is in the left channel and Tony's guitar is in the right channel. Tony is "noodling" at the begining. At the end you can hear Clarence say...I can't keep up with you guys.

"...and could keep up with Tony Rice..." - Clarence was Tony's mentor and teacher. Rice was still finding his own "voice" on guitar - echoing Clarence and experimenting to distinguish himself. Rice has said Clarence was his #1 influence; he worked at not copying his style because it was so magnetic. Clarence was the "master" and Tony "student", but with no "competiton". Clarence's attack and specific licks sound like this was '71-'72; more "Muleskinner" than "Kentucky Colonels".

awesome. thanks for posting. agreed 'cept for the noodling at beginning is on Clarence's side of the field and is clearly him. Tony kicks it off, Clarence solo at 1:22 and Tony solo after verse 1 at 2:04, Clarence fills over verse 2, mando solo (Larry?) - Herb would know. Clarence at 3:32 again, Tony ending . I enjoy this song as well as Clarance and Tony in general. They are special talents indeed. I am disappointed that it is audio only presentation, however, especially as this is a KZbin, video-based format, with all due respect.

most people back in the early 70s didn't have cameras let alone lucky enough to have the "at home" equipment and with all respect you should be grateful that the audio from this recording was successfully recovered.
