it actually didn't. it's getting a lot of flack from therapists, emotionally mature people, and generally anyone with a hint of understanding about misogyny. People are trying to recognise and report toxic shit like this now more than ever, and because of that lots of people are seeing this ridiculous portrayal of some underdog nerd getting the manic pixie dream girl for what it is. a toxic trope. literally look up manic pixie dream girl and this movie is one of the first things to show up because it is now so infamous on how BAD it is lol

Michael Cera's Scott is cringe. In the comic, Scott is a little social insecure but not at Michael Cera's level. After all, he's portrayed as a player many times in the comic. That's the only flaw in the casting tho, I loved every single one of the cast except for Scott.
@earlybird34 жыл бұрын
@@jcasma yes. Michael Cera's Scott is kind of unlikable. That was the point though. To make him flawed. Kim Pine is still hurt and mad at him. His new, new gf is a little damaged also. In general a lot of conflict is going on based on a bit of meanness from most of the characters. The film is not Booksmart, with no antagonist. The casting is amazing though. What a cast!

IMO (about the movie's plot) Scott Pilgrim faced the insecurities towards their partner that everyone has in a new relationship: - Not being exotic or "different" (Matthew) - Not being famous or cool (Lucas) - Not being morally superior &/or physically gifted (Todd) - Not being the right gender (Roxie) - Not being "enough" (as one person/man) (Katanayagi bros.) - Not being powerful & rich or "in control" (Gideon) - Finally, not being self-confident enough, being paranoid (Nega Scott) He beat them all practically. Ramona fought Roxie because sexual orientation is out of someone's control & Scott befriended Nega because you can't fight yourself, you can only accept yourself.

Kim was first; she & Scott were both quite young at the time, probably before they even formed the band with Steven. Envy & Scott would've both been starting in the music scene at the same time, before The Clash at Demonhead took off. What I love about this song is that it's about Scott Pilgrim, who is an unreliable narrator. It talks about Scott twisting the truth, which we see in the movie. While Ramona is mostly upfront about her mistakes in past relationships, Scott isn't. He says he and Kim are cool, but she's clearly still a little hurt. How he treated Knives is obvious and is addressed at the end of the movie. Even with Envy, who seems to have abandoned Scott when she got famous is hinted to not be the whole story (in the comic it's more clear). Want more proof Scott is an unreliable narrator? When he gets embarrassed about his haircut he puts on a red hunting hat. Of you've read Catcher In the Rye, you know Holden Caufield, another famous unreliable narrator, puts on a red hunting hat when he feels insecure. It's a direct reference.
