When I first visited London years ago, I stayed here and loved it...for years after I received a lovely Christmas card...pure class...

I had an opportunity to stay at this landmark hotel when I visited England from Canada many years ago. I have always loved Art Deco so my partner at the time surprised me with booking us into Claridges. The history, architecture, afternoon tea with champagne lol. It was truly an amazing experience to have. It was my first time to have a lift (elevator) operator, and a beautifully plush fabric bench to sit on while you were whisked up 3 floors. Lol. And the doormen with top hats calling you “mam” everytime you went near the door......Over the top for me to do on any regular basis, but a truly amazing experience to have at least once in a lifetime.

Please boycott this hotel: it is owned by the dictatorial family from Qatar. Apart from all the classics (no freedom of speech, no free press, tortures…), LGBT people are persecuted and women are second class citizens. If all that is not enough, migrant workers from poor asian countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India…) work there in near-slavery conditions , specially during the construction of the infrastructures of the recent football cup. Give your money to someone else. Javi Caballero (Spain)

Some do, but Claridge's used to be known as the annex of Buckingham Palace. I've been going to Claridge's since the 1960s and have seen members of just about every European Royal Family there. The Queen Mother was a regular as was King Constantine, who had his London office in the next street. Once saw him, the Kings of Norway and Sweden and the Queen of Denmark lunching together. Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia was born there and still stays in the same suite. There used to be a special royal rate of £25 a night.
