It's also important to note that spell suppression can be scaled further than 50% spell damage suppressed. "There will be a few specialized ways to invest in increasing the spell damage suppressed to reward high investment"

Have GGG ever explained why their in game stats do not reflect at ALL how especially armour and evasion actually work? That always seemed to weird to me. I remember when I first tried PoE I tried to figure it out for myself by testing the stats vs what I saw because my "hugely" armoured char was supposedly at like a 70% reduction but only took a tiny bit less damage than when I was naked, I honestly thought the game was just broken because of that.

One thing worth mentioning about crafting additional critical strike chance on a diamond flask is that you can put those values even further with an enkindling orb that gives increased effect, making it potentially almost as strong as old diamond flask.

Question, what sources actually increase dot damage? Even after years of playing, it is still confusing. For example, fireball ignite, does % fire damage work? Does spell damage work? Does added fire damage to spells work? Does reductions to fire resistance work? Do things like shock and covered in ash work? How about a cluster jewel that gives bonus % damage if the enemy is hindered or blinded or effected by something?

So damaging ailments like ignite, poison, and bleed all scale off the base hit. Ignite scales off the base hit of fire damage, so the bigger the hit, the more dot you get. The dot can then also be scaled with burning damage, ailment modifiers, increased damage, and lowering resistances work too as well as shock. Almost anything that improves general damage or fire damage will scale a dot, but some are more effective such as fire dot multi. Also remember scaling the original hit raises where you start when it comes to scaling the dot. With things like poison and bleed (with crimson dance) that can stack multiple times, dont get carried away with duration. It will show it as doing a ton more damage but thats just because you can stack more poisons before previous ones run out. No one is going to hit a mob for 15 seconds stacking poisons though.

@@Lardbutt200 Against bosses additional duration is helpful -- at least as long as it takes a while to kill them. Against mobs hopefully most of those fall over dead pretty quick anyway.

Damage conversion is offensive, so the damage that is done takes the base damage and converts it to whatever else....So for example, if your toxic rain does 100 physical damage, it becomes 40 physical damage and 60 chaos because it has a 60% conversion rate. (its important because this is how most people double dip damage, as local modifiers are before this). Damage shift is defensive and takes a percent of whatever the damage is to some other form, cloak of flames for example takes 20% of damage to fire. The main difference here between conversion and shift is that the calculation is done together, so you can't effectively double dip. Conversion takes the initial number, and all the modifiers, then changes that to whatever it is being converted to. Damage shift changes the damage at the same time its calculated. So to try and simplify it a bit more. Damage conversion goes X damage type + modifiers then > converts to new damage + modifiers. Damage shift goes X damage type shifted to X + damage modifiers. Damage taken as refers directly to damage mitigation, so like astramentis has -4 physical damage taken from hits. So basically once all the damage has been calculated, the final step is either reductions or increases (increases such as abyssus). Additionally flat sources of damage taken as are calculated before increases/reductions. I dont really know if I answered your question but hopefully it helped explain it a bit

@@MrTarget02 Flat mitigation (as in astramentis) is in flat mitigation, not damage taken as. I think they messed up the list and damage shift is the same as damage taken as. Ziz says damage shift is basically damage taken and explains it in detail and when he comes to the damage taken as part in the list, he just moves on. The latter damage taken as should not be there, cause you absolutely don't do that after resistances and mitigations.

The order of operations is actually correct, however he just misworded the 2nd damage taken as....Damage taken as and damage shift are the same thing, the ordering however has damage taken (reduced/less/more/X damage taken from Y) in place of damage taken as, and damage taken as is the same thing as damage shift. So the order is; Initial damage Damage conversion Global modifiers Crits Prevention of hits (evasion/dodge) Damage shift damage mitigation Damage taken Block Then anything extra that impacts it. (guard skills, ward, es, MoM etc...)

Those types of damage are all fire that is occurring in different ways, chances to inflict ailments (ignite chill freeze) are the 0-100% chance of the ailment occurring upon the corresponding elemental damage being dealt by a hit

Yes because the skitterbots aren't you. You could test by seeing if enemies are chilled (assuming you're referring to Secrets of Suffering).

Your Hit and Crit examples seem off. "If an attack would crit you, evasion is tested a second time, and if you evade, the hit is downgraded to a non-crit" and so forth from Mark_GGG. So you roll to hit, to crit and, if succesful, you roll to hit again. So the actual formula for effective crit chance would be (chance to hit)^2 * chance to crit. Your result in the first example is correct, but it's you didn't arrive to it correctly. In it, you roll to hit (96%), and then to crit (100%) and then to hit again (96%). So you'll end up with 92,16% effective crit chance as you did. But with the second example you make a mistake. You should roll to hit (96%), then to crit (88,05) and to hit once more (96%) leaving you with only 81,15% effective crit chance. I feel like a more clear way of communicating this would be "96% hit chance, 100% crit chance = 96% attacks hit, 100% of hitting attacks crit, if you succeed in the additional accuracy roll" or something. I don't mean harm. This was new to me so thank you. The examples seemed contradicting each other so I dug around and this is what I gathered. Let me know if I'm still incorrect

Armour has diminishing returns compared to the factor of "% Amount of the hit mitigated" but it does not have diminishing returns on the amount of damage mitigated absolutely, It has perfectly linear returns. Saying that Armour has diminishing returns in this way is exactly like saying that Increased Maximum Life % has diminishing returns.

Skipped 3.16... had to come back to school to learn why I was dying so much this league. So now on top of capped resists apparently we have to be 100% spell suppressed. Most build guides don't mention it or maybe I thought I knew things and missed it.

Gladiator has "attack damage is lucky" with Violent Retaliation, surely that works for crits as well.

How is base crit calculated if you are dual wielding? Is it just your main hand weapon or is it the average of the 2? Or something else entirely?

Calculated per weapon. Even with something like cleave or dualstrike, one could crit and one could not iirc. If you look in the offense tab of your character it shows how much crit chance you have for each weapon.

The Character Sheet shows main hand and off hand stats based on the skill. Each skill is calculated in isolation. Critical Strike Chance is skill dependent an example is arc has 5% and new manabond is 6%... Base crit the combination of weapon base type, stats on the weapon, passive tree selections and skills used. All these need to be considered when dual wielding.

I've literally never played softcore on POE I learned what is dangerous and not this way. I don't understand softcore's all damage builds, it seems stupid to play that way. It's like missing out on half the game or more by having zero defense or knowledge of how to properly balance damage to defenses. As well as ignoring most monster attacks or understanding the mechanics of them.
