I think the pirates also call Tallon IV a rogue planet despite it orbiting a star. Could this be because it originally was before it was captured by FS-176? On that note, this might be true for all the planets in that system, since they don't share an ecliptic as is usual, which could be a hint that the Chozo purposefully "assembled" that system.
@ThatMetroidGuy Жыл бұрын
The Pirates describe Tallon IV as a "Wanderer-class planet" specifically, and that is believed to be thanks to its orbit, but that is all that is said about that. The hologram naturally isn't to scale or overly too accurate, much like our science books on the planets in our own solar system, so Tallon IV in reality may have a visually weird orbit when seen to scale.
@GatorGoob Жыл бұрын
Assuming it's not a weird language choice from Retro Studios, or some meddling from Nintendo, the use of "rogue" could also be used to imply that the solar system didn't belong to any government/entity as well -- especially because the Chozo are supposed to be largely dead as a civilization during our time with Samus.
@jesusramirezromo2037 Жыл бұрын
They didn't call it a rogue planet, But "Wandering class" planet It's possible Tallon IV has an eccentric orbit that isn't always in it's habitable zone Could explain why Phendrona is frozen over, when it was clearly not always forzen, indicated by the frozen chozo fountains
@ArK047 Жыл бұрын
I suppose folks who aren't deep in space fiction, specifically settings rooted in the 80s, would be confused by the Metroid setting. In terms of English language science fiction, I can only remember Firefly and BSG as recent examples of settings where multiple worlds exist in a single system and are relevant to the plot. Most other popular space fiction only spotlights one planet in each stellar system. The Metroid naming scheme for planets is also non standard: Tallon IV would be the fourth planet of the Tallon system, orbiting the star Tallon; but this isn't the case. As for the whole "nearby" or "across the galaxy" descriptions, I'm most surprised that this tripped people up. Three points can all be across the galaxy from each other if arranged roughly in a triangular shape. How I've always read it was that former Chozo space was on one frontier if Federation space, Aether was floating along another frontier a ways distant, and Phaaze was in another galaxy altogether.

i assume tallon 4 is named that way due to being inhabited by the chozo and not location, sort of saying its an extention of their reach being their fourth tallon

It bothers me too. I often hear people describe the game Outer Wilds (amazing game, don’t look it up lest you get spoiled about anything) as taking place in a miniature galaxy or that you’re exploring a galaxy. While it’s _technically_ true, it’s extremely misleading because you only ever explore a small solar system. That’s a substantial difference of several orders of magnitude in terms of complexity.
@Nyxael5845 Жыл бұрын
I figured that Zebes was spared from a Leviathan impact due to it being a harsh planet to begin with, at least on the surface level. Most of Zebes' ecosystem lies entirely underground deep within the uthric crust of the planet. The surface is constantly plagued under the effects of acid rain as well. The two known Leviathan impacts of Tallon IV and Aether make sense because they are planets with a very rich ecosystem on the surface level.

The blue and purple nebula seen in the sky above Zebes on the Zero Mission title screen bears notable similarity to the real Veil Nebula located approximately 2400Ly from Sol. Considering the fact that the Chozo who consider Phaaze to be immeasurably far had probes in other galaxies, I like to think the Aether being across from Phaaze thing is bullshit, and Phaaze is definitely extra-galactic. Not just a nearby galaxy like the Tetra Galaxy either, it's gotta be several galaxies away.

@@jesusramirezromo2037 I'm aware, but the Chozo on Elysia were looking at OTHER galaxies. Granted, NEARBY galaxies, which are smaller than some galaxies themselves, but considering how much people in the metroid universe traverse to different edges of the galaxy and sometimes different galaxies, I feel like something so far away would either have to be extragalactic, or not actually be very far away at all, since I feel like if you can travel to other galaxies in the Metroid universe, then somewhere across your galaxy wouldn't be too difficult.
@theuncalledfor Жыл бұрын
I think Phaaze is most likely several billion lightyears away - more than just "several galaxies". Think more like the Destiny in Stargate Universe, so far away as to be unfathomable even for many of the more advanced civilizations. That's what would make the most sense in explaining why the Chozo couldn't get there.
@GamingWithCalvin1 Жыл бұрын

@@GamingWithCalvin1 It would have to be in the multiple tens of millions at the very least, because that's how far galaxies are apart. The nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way is 2.5 million lightyears away (Andromeda galaxy), and apparently Chozo have done some exploring in neighbouring galaxies. There needs to be enough of a multiple to make the journey genuinely unfeasible, so I think that's still lowballing it.

Fun fact the ringed planet of the SR388 system can be again seen in Samus Returns. Specifically on the System Hologram in Area 7. I personally think that if Metroid takes place in the milky way that SR388 has to be near the center of the galaxy. As we only have (or currently known) supermassive black hole. Which event horizon would be visible to the naked eye from afar. Would also explain how SR388 is barren, considering the fact that it is irradiated with an enourmous amount of cosmic radiation, which we can see as arora borealis covering the skyline on SR388. The only thing that cant be explained would be its star being a G Class Star, as it needs to be billions of years old for life to have evolved on SR388, and in the center of the milky way. Most stars only live a couple million years
@novustalks7525 Жыл бұрын
There's millions of black holes in our galaxy. Sagittarius A is just our core but there's an innumerable amount of them scattered about
@theakiwar9118 Жыл бұрын
@@novustalks7525 I know there are but most are not large enough to be visible with the naked eye from a stable orbit. Most black holes are 20-10000 km wide. Which wouldn’t be visible at all. A Black Hole that is large enough to be visible a binary star system has to be a supermassive black hole. Thus SR388 could either be located in a dwarf galaxy, another galaxy or only in the center of the milky way. Not only that but the Black hole of SR388 has jets, which only supermassive ones have *with being visible I obviously mean the Event Horizon for scientific clarification* I mean Venus is about 10.000 km wide and its only a dot in the night sky

It is weird how Samus is using a likely traceable ship that a corrupt faction made lmao. Not everything has to make real world, completely legitimate, and 100% sense in a video game. What's important is to give *any* explanation, and it's said that Aether produces its own planetary energy. Be it thanks to the absurdly slow rotation speed, intense magnetic fields, or whatever, it's an explanation, and it's not the only planet in Metroid that does it too; SR388 and Phaaze also make their own planetary energy.
