The federation thing is actually not as it seems. In the Japanese version of Fusion, it was made clear that the horrible things the federation were doing turned out to be just a small group of officials operating without the permission of the federation at large. In the west, translations basically glossed over these details. So in reality, Samus and the federation are still working together just fine.

I've beaten Dread 15 times now, and I've actually gotten more fond of the soundtrack, believe or not. Especially after listening to the soundtrack itself outside of the game. By far my absolute favorite thing about Dread is it both makes you feel like a Speedrunner (something I have never personally done in any game) and that as you said there is absolute clear indication that sequence breaking is part of the design, where that didn't feel like the case in other Metroids. It actually feels like a speed runner was one of the programmers or was consulted heavily in its creation, and because of that, I am more than willing to look over many of the flaws in the game because, at the end of the day, they just don't impact my enjoyment that much. Dread, for me, is a perfect game for giving me a Metroid experience I have never come close to having before, and I cherish that. Great video, keep up the good work!

The things i wanna see in metroid 6 are: 1 the federation actually chasing samus right after the events of dread maybe because adam has reported her mission status against his will as an AI since maybe he was programmed to do that, and that they justify their actions by saying that she now possess a major treat to the galaxy (since i doubt x quiet robe actually cured her but he actually calmed her metroid instinct/hunger for a short period of time) and maybe give us a cool opening scene where dozens of gff ships are surrounding her gunship in the middle of space and telling her something like : "As the last known living Metroid in the galaxy, you Samus aran have the right to surrender under the orders of the gff, after your curious dna awakening you pose a huge threat to the galaxy and potentially the universe as a whole, the gff will not trust your decisions anymore especially after the events following your mission at the bsl staion and your most recent one involving the destruction of the federation's private property aslo known as the Emmi, we may still have some plans for you, potentially as the gff's solution for galactic peace, disobedience will not be tolerated" or something like that idk(yeah i know this feels really edgy)since im pretty sure they would have some interest in her recent dna awakening, and i really want the story to be her running away from the gff and also trying to control her powers (potentially the armor evolving as the story progresses to emulate the look of each Metroid form) and not to kill any federation trooper sent after her 2 the chozo seen in the background of The chozo archive number (i forgot wich number it was but its the one where the whole mawkin army is gathering in Hanubia for some reason) holding a bident and wearing a cloak playing a major role in m6 maybe either regretting raven beak's decisions and him working for him and siding with samus possibly replacing adam in the next game (since he could be striped away from her by the gff) or wanting to fulfill his leader's wishes and trying to hunt her down alongside the gff( or being independent but still wanting to hunt her down) 3 more chozo tribes that show that even though raven beak znd his tribe were so powerful they still are nothing compared to the other tribes (doesn't matter if they are bad or good) like imagine if the mawkin were that strong how would the other tribes be 4 explaining why THE HECK WERE GREY VOICE AND OLD BIRD ARE PRESENT IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE FLASHBACK THAT'S SHOWING THE RAVEN BEAK TO SAMUS DNA TRANSUNION (granted its just their silhouette and i might be wrong but its literally their same figure) 5 being the final game dealing with the x and explaining what exactly is the purple x at the end of dread, since at the end samus absorbs any x infected enemy she touches except for X-raven beak which literally consumes her with ease with no consequences (yeah that could just be a game mechanic but think about it) 6 idk if i want a multi planetary map but it would be dope if samus is escaping from the gff hoping from and having different gff factions (potentially different races working for them) following her on each planet, like imagine her being at this undiscovered alien jungley type planet followed by a reptilian looking race as troopers sent by the gff thinking that they are best suited for the environment of that planet then escaping to an alien cyberpunk city that belongs to the gff where she's followed by either human troopers or a squad of bounty hunters (potentially rivals trying to get her to win a prize from ghe gff)thats hired by the gff (kinda like the city seen in the prime hunters intro) but idk

Got this video in my recommendation so I wanted to leave a comment. I loved Dread. It was my 5th Metroid game (I've played all the 2D Metroid titles, remakes instead of 1 and 2, however). As a game, the gameplay is smooth and Samus controls wonderfully. I wish that she controlled half as well on the GBA games. The story was good enough for a Metroid and I loved Raven Beak as a boss (kinda want him in Smash now lol). I agree that the music is a bit easy to forget, which was a shame given how good the music is in past titles. But overall, as a game to play, it's some of the most fun you can have in a Metroid title.

Few ideas I'd like to see done in Metroid 6: Hanubia ship X Parasites landing on a former pirate world and reanimating the space pirates Hanubia ship X Parasites landing on a populous urban planet and causing local apocalypse, allowing us to finally explore an urbanized area in the metroid universe without breaking isolation Galactic Federation trying to steal X samples for personal use(possibly via EMMI robot) Return of Mawkin in general More X hosts(preferably chozo ones) regaining their minds like Quiet Robe did(I know people think he just wanted to pacify Samus' Metroid powers, but if that was the case I don't see why Mercury Steam would've animated that scene to make it look QR-X was a good guy. It'd make more sense if he actually WAS a good guy then for MS to just have lied to us about that for no good reason)

The thing about the Federation and Samus is that there is no feud. There never was. The reason it seemed like there was is just because of bad translation in Fusion. And even in the English version, Samus or Adam (I forget which) says in the ending monologue that the Federation will hold tribunals and that "someone will understand, someone must", implying that the Federation at large will go after the group responsible for metroid project, not Samus. If you think a mistranslation that significant is unlikely, just look at Samus's career title. Whenever game developers in one of the Prime games tried to have Samus hunt bounties, Nintendo was appalled, because "bounty hunter" was actually a poor translation of "mercenary".

I get where people come from when they talk about the music being bad/bland, but there are some good tracks. Burenia and Ferenia are my personal favorites. Gold walls and floors, many large statues, in an arid desert - there are so many similarities! I agree that the ending was kind of rushed, with the whole kraid-raven beak chimera. Samus isn't buddy buddy with the GF. There's a rogue military group within it responsible for both the BSL and bottleship. They don't run the GF as a whole. Samus is in good standing with the Chairman (Keaton), who wants to oust this shadow group for their illegal bio weapons developement. Samus would certainly he an enemy of this subsect, but not the top brass. She just has friends in high places. Edit: should clarify before someone disagrees with me because of Fusion The english version of Fusion lost this aspect of the story in localization, and the ending of the original has almost nothing about holding Samus at fault. Other M, even in the english version, also makes it clear that there is a rogue sect.

The perfect way to do M6 is have the rogue feds assassinate the chairman and pin it on Samus. Then they use the BSL incident and her new Metroid DNA to say she's been rogue for years and make her a wanted criminal. I find myself just booting it up just to run around and shoot things because it feels so good to play.

Me and my youngest sister both agreed that a DLC in a similar style to Kirby: Star Allies' "Heroes in another dimension" mode would be cool, they're basically a series of puzzle platforming challenges that switch up who you play as and your ability and given how fun Samus is to play in Dread having that kind of thing going on but it's your gear could quite a fun experience, also doubt that a DLC that adjusts the pacing of the ending would actually remedy it's issue, maybe expanding the remaining areas so you spend more time being almost to fully powered would be cool though. I personally adore the soundtrack's approach.

A note about the music: Soshi Abe and Sayako Doi (the composers) are newer composers at Nintendo. Both composers have composed for games that aren’t necessarily theme driven - Abe arranged for “Pikimin 3 deluxe” and “Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training for Nintendo Switch” while Doi scored for “Animal Crossing.” They both got put on Dread, and so they did what they were familiar with composing, which is providing music that is important enough to be there but not important enough to stand on its own, which has always been a staple for Metroid. I think it was a mistake to put newer hires on something as big as Dread, so that wasn’t particularly their fault. I would go as far as to say that it’s not really bad music - it’s just not right for Metroid.

After understanding that the e.m.m.i.s. were not a survival horror mechanic, but a progression roadblock that challenges the player to try non run and gun techniques combined with newly adopted skills. This is an attempt to cement the concept that there is more than one way to skin a cat, as spamming her arm cannon on all enemies doesn't showcase Aran's prowess. So fighting them isn't a conventional interaction, and fighting a Gigantic boss within CQC and requiring the players agility movesets to counter makes sense to me. Also, loved the game progression... But I hated finding my next objective after being stuck needlessly retracing sections and agonizing over potential map completion.

I still love it, I honestly think is the best game on the switch, the other two big competitors (Mario Odyssey and BOTW) are both great, but also gigantic bloated games, almost unreplayable to me. But Metroid Dread I almost cannot put it down, I carry it always with me like a smash bros or a mario kart, just in case I want to give it a go spontaneously. And I often do. It is so entretaining and so replayable that the time spent on it is comparable and will surely surpass the other games, even if they are techincally way bigger. Honestly my main complaint, which is more of a mild dissapointment, is that I wanted more insentives to replay, I wanted a full set of achievements and other alternative challenges and or play modes. I wanted to unlock a lot more artwork. Starting with any kind of reward for completing the boss rush. Dread mode is a decent option but honestly it went too far, to the point that it just completely broke a lot of core design elements of the game, like how energy tanks become irrelevant or how the emmi (the supposed biggest threat) suddenly became the weakest enemy of the whole game by being the only enemy that doesn't kill you in one hit. I would have loved a speedrunning mode with cutscenes and dialogs disabled, maybe some sort of newgame+ or second quest that either gives you more freedom or maybe items in different places. Or honestly just some permadeath survival mode, play the whole game without dying like in hollow knights steel soul mode, that mode would be very difficult and without undermining or negating a bunch of design elements, putting the emmi once again as the scariest enemies. I would do it, and I think it would be more fun than my dread mode playthrough.
@aurafox12 жыл бұрын
I will say I don't think the Emmi are quite as scary as intended, but they are very threatening and oppressive presences that I do find myself... *dreading* for lack of a better word. But I still think they're pretty fun! There are some moments where it's annoying that RNG just isn't in your favor or their movement just didn't make any sense, but the game's movement is so fluid that running away from the Emmi and dodging around it in search of a hiding spot really rewards you for getting good at the various tools you have for movement!

Metroid dread was my first ever Metroid game and it’s one of the few games that don’t just make me pissed off when I lose a ton, like yeah I make a lot of mistakes but I can very clearly see what I did wrong, I should’ve stood there, I shouldn’t have done that, etc, this ties in very well with the majority of the EMMIs however I personally have a big problem with the purple and blue ones, the purple one is incredibly annoying because there’s no hiding with it, if you move slightly then it’s just a big chase section, the blue one is less of an issue but the infinite range beam is very annoying

Glad to see you back! I totally agree that the next game needs to have something about the tension between Samus and The Federation. We all know it's there, now we need to see what's going on. If it wasn't for the Metroid DNA and her extensive experience, she probably would have been left to die on a rock by them

I think there should have been a residual Emmi element after you beat the game or before the final boss. As soon as all the Emmi are gone, it becomes a fairly bland normal metroid map with typical expected enemies scattered throughout. Searching for 100 percent of the upgrades felt like such a chore after a while because... The world was empty. The Emmi made the entire map make so much sense, and made me plan my routes accordingly. Without them I sleep.

I started the game and after the intro/tutorial section I immediately ran into a room where I could neither escape nor kill the enemy chasing me. I am almost sure I did something wrong but as someone who's new to the franchise I couldn't figure out what I'd have to do. So I never played it again. 😞

As a person who beat Metroid Dread on Dread Mode, all I can say to it is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! I forgot to breathe during the final fight and nearly passed out from hyperventilation when I finally beat Raven Beak.
@ultraspinalki112 жыл бұрын
Now that time has passed, I've notice more people pointing out flaws in the game's plot. For instance, the time frame in which Kraid was captured does not logically fit in the timeline. Or why did Raven Beak keep Quiet Robe alive if he couldn't control Metroids back on SR388 nor create more of them. Or the whole deal on Metroids hating on Mawkins. Still a fun game though. Did far more playthroughs of it than any Metroid game that came out after Prime 3!
@ThatMetroidGuy2 жыл бұрын
It could just be another member of Kraid's species, which is supported by the body languages of both Samus and Kraid, where she recognises him while Kraid just looks like he's defending his territory. Quiet Robe could control the Larva Metroids, which is likely what Raven Beak wanted. And the Thoha likely engineered the Metroids to see the Mawkin as threats due to their aggressive nature as a precaution for the exact scenario that happened on SR388. Dread is easily the best game since Corruption and it's not even close, it's up there.
@ultraspinalki112 жыл бұрын
@@ThatMetroidGuy If the devs intended for Dread's Kraid to simply be another member of the species, it'd be pretty lame of them. It would lower the status of one of the series' most memorable bosses. Imagine if every Ridley we encountered was a different individual each time, his presence would lose all significance and impact. Raven Beak didn't want to control the larvae though. He wanted the evolved forms that he and his troops fought against on SR388, and seeing them in action is what triggered his interest in the species. This also brings into question how Quiet Robe's genes even helped Samus in the ending. She/her power suit had reached an "evolved" stage of Metroid (green carapace, red spots/eyes, just like Alpha to Omega stages the Thoha can't control), so his genes shouldn't have had any effect on her. As for the Chozo, it's a bit of a letdown that Dread's depiction of them didn't reach the expectations set by the Prime series which presented them as having reached an unimaginable state of enlightenment and peace. Instead there's distrust among their own race, backstabbing, some of them wanting to weaponize Metroids for their own goals, thus making them no wiser than the Space Pirates, Mother Brain and Galactic Federation who tried to do the exact same thing.

Personally i was disappointed the new difficulty modes didn't have any new ending images. I was pretty let down by Dread's endings in general compared to the past 2D games but idk, no new endings kinda kills my motivation to play Dread mode I do wish the ending itself was less rushed seeing as the climax was amazing then the game just abruptly ends. ZDR blowing up came out of nowhere. And this is definitely an unpopular opinion but going back to the game I actually don't really like how Samus is portrayed here Like sure she's cool, cooler than she's ever been probably, but this flat out doesn't feel like the same Samus from Fusion to me. In general I wish the Fusion connections besides the X were more explored, like her suit changes. It was built up as this huge sequel to Fusion and while it does fulfill that promise with the X and Metroid stuff, it fell really short for me regarding Samus herself
@badacid73882 жыл бұрын
My only gripe is how it holds your hand with hidden items, you shouldn’t have a flashing box telling you where everything is. Takes the replay ability out of it.
@nicoloenricorimoldi74252 жыл бұрын
I think that the X would have been fine as a Fusion exclusive. The game was centered around Samus’ conflict with them, and they were a terrifying force that dictated the pace of the plot. The SA-X boss fight and the ending were good enough resolution in my eyes. They were… fine in Dread, if a little tacked on and inconsistent with their Fusion behaviour. I certainly don’t like how they steal your final boss kill and the fact that their presence forces the planet to be destroyed once again. The game could have been fine without them, they just had to resolve that specific plot point in a different way. Still, I think that it’s better to have them end with ZDR, they have no need to be in the story anymore.

Do people still not realize that the Federation plot was a translation error and that Samus was actually dealing with a rogue faction of the Federation? Yeah, you can't follow up on a plot point that doesn't actually exist.
@ThatMetroidGuy2 жыл бұрын
The Varia Suit was a translation error too. Samus should have problems with the Federation regardless if it's a rogue faction, they have been allowed to operate and the GF have done nothing to weed them out. Not only that, the Federation themselves commissioned the creation of the E.M.M.I, the sole purpose of which is to extract DNA while also possessing an immunity to Samus' entire arsenal. Now, who has the most valuable DNA in the galaxy and why does it stop Samus' weapons? Begs the question, doesn't it?
@Degdreams2 жыл бұрын
@@ThatMetroidGuy I mean I fully agree with you on that is would be a very compelling plot! I'd love the series to explore that, I just don't trust Nintendo to ever write anything that compelling so I'd honestly rather shoot down the idea then to get my hopes up and be disappointed. I was looking for that GF plot in Dread also. After it didn't happen and I found out why, I just stay away from perpetuating that topic.

@@Degdreams How? It'd potentially be the most by the numbers plot possible.
@Degdreams Жыл бұрын
@senselessmind8603 By the numbers? I disagree. I think having friction with a military organization that you've long since been tied to with multiple connections and the moral delima on whether you've truly made the correct decision is actually rather complex. Or at least have a very high potential to be that way, and Nintendo has always been simple and safe with their writing. For example, Samus committing genocide while allowing the Metroid larva to exist is explored deeply by fans. Nintendo NEVER thoroughly dives into that and even the baby is glossed over with a single line of dialog or mostly botched. I just can't see it done well.

I have a few problems with Dread that keep me from enjoying it. For starters, this also goes for SR. I do not like the feeling of the controls of the Mercury Steam games. Even when I get used to them, I activly hate the 360 aiming and I just want the locked 45 degree angles back. Due to how the games checkpoint, everything just does...too much damage. What I like in older metroid games is even when I mess up on dodging enemies, I FEEL like I'm in a powersuit and I can stand to just bullhead through some things. Doubling down on the checkpoints and BS, the EMMI. What makes SA-X scary even with the abusable AI, you CANNOT kill it until near the end of the game. A lot of the fear factor is gone when you know how to kill something. Doubling down on this, I think it would have been better if there were one EMMI doing a Mr. X thing. Make it not be a moving kill box and instead a full world hunter. Give it a few travel limitations, maybe finding the core units and beating them gives you some big upgrades to evade EMMI better until you finally get to the SINGULAR boss fight with it once you get the weapon to break through its armor. As has been stated, I wish Missiles were better, especially with how many you get. Until I can gather my thoughts more, I'll leave off with how much I hate the upgrades (E-tanks+Missile Tanks) in this game. It is set up so you have way WAY more to pick up only to end roughly equal to the other games. I'd really rather just have less full E-tanks and no E-parts, and all the Missile tanks be 5 instead of mostly 2s and some 10s.

Only 110 hours? child's play. Seriousness, although while the ending is clearly rushed, I feel it more from Hanubia being short and the final Emmi not having something more to do with the gameplay than the actual ending cutscene/battle, which is probably why it doesnt bother me as much today. Raven Beak's fight is a blast both from the abilities and the context of seeing two Chozos locked in combat, and how the moves were foreshadowed in the opening makes for some neat storytelling, he didnt need to change much strategies because he knew in the end he would win, but was caught off-guard in the something not many could see coming. I wouldnt say the game is too hand-holding, I've seen my friends and family struggle at figuring out where to go for hours, so maybe it feels that way more to us fans of the series who are used to the type of exploration, and I think the sequence breaking are a nice way to satiate the itch. Sorry for the long comment, but just wanted to chime in with some comments, I agree overall with the things you thought here. Great work
