I was stationed at Clark in 1985-86 (3rd AGS/WCS). I also went TDY to Osan in '85 & '86 (TS 86 was frigid in those damn tents!!), so we were in the same place at the same time more than once 😁Clark was the best assignment an Airman could get at that time. I ended-up separating in '86 because the AF was going to send me back to tech school (perish the thought) to learn F-15 radar and I knew my Clark (and F-4) time was over one way or the other, so I chose other. No regrets at all, it was a hoot!! Things at Clark are vastly different now and its hard to describe to folks what it was like back then, which is why I watched this. Thanks for uploading.

Gil and Carol, greetings from the land of the long white cloud. NEW ZEALAND! very very nice video!!!! it brings back a lot of good memories during my childhood days. I was born and raised in Angeles City. a lot of my family members are connected to the US bases especially at Clark Air Base . my older sister was formerly employed at PHAX Chicken coup in 1983 and was transfered to the new CAB Commissary .my older brother was a DOD police at Clark and my other older brother was a lineman at the F16 and F14 runway .my untie was working at Precision Measurement and Equipment Labolatory (PMEL) the memorable experience that i will always remember was the food ! we got a cousin who work at Kelly theater and always gives as American Burgers , Fried Chicken , Ice Creams , Ding Dongs, HoHo , Fig Newtons ect!!!! ohhhhhhh these are all luxury during those old days and you can only get them at CLARK AB! Happening on the green is also something to look forward because CLARK AIR BASE is open to public as it is JULY 4 its American Independence day and also a Philippine American Friendship day . there a lot of Animals on display plus the spectacular and exciting ferries wheel and rides! oh my favourite one the American Hotdogs and ice cream! iam an old Man now and retiring soon and never lived in the philippines for the last 35 years but i will always cherries all the fond memories interacting with US Air force Personnels especially during my time working as a young Chef at Clarkton Hotel just at the perimeter of CLARK AB! Nice video, it reminds me when I worked in Subic Naval Base telephone exchange in (at the time a Pinoy Citizen) May 1984. It is like working in another country when I am inside, but feel second class citizen as I could not buy in the commissary, but I can buy from a vending machine, but the cost will be prohibitive as it only accepts US coins and you have to eat the chocolate you bought from the vending machine inside the base and cannot bring it out, only Ladies allowed to bring 1 chocolate bar home. I remember those big grey hangers and baseball field and other recreational field that I pass thru to get to the telephone exchange. I also remember, the gas guzzling cars of all the Pinoy US Navy going thru the gate as we queue to enter. I know a lot of Pinoy tried to join US navy as a way to become US citizen. One time, I talked to a Pinoy US navy when they arrived in Garden Island in Sydney, Australia ( at this time I am already an Aussie citizen) and he told me, you get US citizen, if you fought for the US in a war, that was around 1995 and he indeed got the US citizen as he was in the 1990 Gulf War and was stationed on one of those frigate ship. He said things have changed and it is not an automatic thing to US citizenship just because you join the US navy unless you fought in a war.

Gil & Carol, thank you for sharing your nostalgic journey to Clark Air Base. I watched your video from start to finish. Nostalgic indeed, even though I've only been there three times. Before continuing, Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year 2025 greetings from Orange Park, Florida. Back to Clark, it was my departure point from Sangley Point to Boot Camp in San Diego in mid 66. The other two were space "A" travels in 79 and 83. So, really I have no familiarity to the place except the air terminal and the main gate. The streets lined with big trees are nice. It was barren then. I wish I was fortunate enough like you guys being stationed there. Wrong branch of service, USN. (Go Navy, beat Army/Air Force). After getting my commissioned to naval officer, an opportunity for Subic assignment became available, but I declined. Too many falling on their sword because of extra curricular activities. I experienced rerentless ridiculous offers while on advanced party assignment to setup port services contracts for our forward deployed aircraft carrier. It was a very scary experience!

It is not that it’s not being maintained. Its just that it is difficult to maintain an old building that has been ravaged by the eruption of Mt Pinatubo and other natural calamities like typhoons. Its better to built a new one but the PAF have to extend that for a while then build a new one in the future. May heart goes for the PAF for their ingenuinity and resilence for still maintaining an old barracks inspite of its age.
@GilCarolAdventures
@GilCarolAdventures 28 күн бұрын
@@BOYLipad1010 I do appreciate your insights on the matter. I completely agree that maintaining an old building, especially one impacted by natural disasters like the eruption of Mount Pinatubo and various typhoons, is a tough challenge. However, my initial comment was more about the grounds maintenance rather than the buildings. Back in the 1980s, the grounds of Clark were maintained meticulously! It appears that is not the case anymore! However, I wholeheartedly commend the Philippine Air Force for their ingenuity and resilience like you said in maintaining the barracks despite these difficulties. It's evident that they have been doing the best they can under the circumstances. The prospect of building a new one in the future is indeed promising. In the meantime, let's continue to support their efforts and commend their dedication to keeping the facility operational. Thank you for your comment! 😊

@@KuyaPhan Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The history between the U.S. and the Philippines is complicated and has many sides. While some people believe the U.S. used the bases without fair payment, others see it as part of a mutual defense agreement. There were benefits to having U.S. bases in the Philippines. They provided jobs and economic opportunities to local communities, improved infrastructure, and enhanced regional security. The exchange of military equipment, including older airplanes, was part of this relationship. It’s important to discuss these viewpoints respectfully.
