This was the sort of movie that played to Gable's strengths. In real life he loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He intoxicated her and raped that woman and she had to hide her pregnancy, send her child to adoption to adopt her back all because if this asshole. This monologue he does where he says he can take what he wants was said with such conviction and she hid her face. He's a coward and this woman was a Saint..

Loretta & Clark fell in love on this film, she did conceive her daughter, there is a scene in this movie where they are just "dopey" in love and looking into each others eyes, we all know this look and there's nothing like it in the world, love that is so obvious and beautiful, thanks for showing thiz

I love Clark and always have. There is noone like him and never will be. Great actor always and sooo handsome. Wow...to have him look at me like that. I wonder if the affair was so "brief". How could anyone resist him anyway? Oh, Rhett...you and Scarlett...greatest ever.

Clark Gable, the star who bestrode Hollywood like a colossus, and here we we why : ruggedly handsome, masculine, taciturn, a man through and through, attactive to the ladies for obvious reasons, and as a man who would dominate and care for them, and attractive to men also as a role-model for the kind of guy they would wish to be too, if only they could...

This was one of my favorite movies when I was about 13, and, not having read the book, didn't understand why kids who had only talked about Buck. Heck, I wanted to be CLARK GABLE, who cares about Buck?

Gable and Young had a love child. The child Judy Lewis died today. They conceived Judy during the filming of this movie. Judging from the comments on this clip it is not hard to see why.

@Scotseasy Well said . . . love your avataring to Clark of Shakespeare's Colossus metaphor for Julius Caesar. Clark had the integrity to be a man -- his natural self, virile yet shrewdly insightful and sensitive, open to deep comedy yet tragedy and lastly (if not firstly) honor -- always and everywhere, and this expressed in his films. What (most) every woman wants -- a cave man in the best sense: an instinctively streetsmart good provider and defender, nonbrutal, might for right .

I think Judy said later on in life that she wished she never got fer ears fixed, as her larger ears were a reminder of her father.

He did, but not to necessarily excuse it, his marriage with Ria was a marriage of convenience only.

I would of loved Clark Gable looking at me like that! No wonder she had an affair with him during the making of this movie. My loins would of been on fire too......

She did not sleep with him. She had to hide and have her baby and then pretend it was adopted. She thought it was her fault until she was old and heard about date rape.

Actually, despite the big ears she inherited from her father, (poor girl) I see Loretta in her. It's not super apparent at first glance. Loretta has always had this other worldly grace and beauty about her from being born in another time, but Judy does look like her mother more than she looks like her father. I saw a film clip where someone (maybe Loretta?) is racing to put a bonnet on Judy as a child to cover her large ears. Funny now. Not then. I love Loretta for keeping her child.
