Clark Gable in his prime : just can't be beaten for sheer good looks, masculinity, suave good manners and (for the ladies) irresistible sex-appeal. The King of Hollywood, and has never been replaced as such. This is one of the many early films of Clark Gable that are well-nigh impossible to buy on dvd in format 2, i.e. the format suitable for playing in Europe....It's so frustrating and unfair !

I'm usually so caught up in Clark Gable being so hot that I don't notice his acting, but this time I did when he talks about the English River. His acting was usually just dismissed as "playing Clark Gable" but 1) the roguish hero we see in his movies, from Red Dust to GWTW, was all an act in the first place; he wasn't at all like that in person, and 2) when the part calls for something different, you can see that he can act. Another example is the crying scene in GWTW after Bonnie's death. I think Gable got robbed when he didn't get the Academy Award for playing Rhett Butler.

1:44 "You'll see the difference".... That was classic. . I bet most young people that may watch this movie today, wouldn't even understand why she threw that book at him. . They just don't make movies like this anymore where there is a story line and you actually have to pay attention to the plot and everything they say. It's all special effects, bad writing and formula story lines, with bad acting.

I see it's available online at cost.TCM runs it sporadically if u wanna get it and care to watch for it.It's a rousing melodrama with Wallace Berry,Roz Russell and Lewis Stone in their prime
