We lost all interest (i.e.-got smarter) in buying new cars & basically now keep our cars till the wheels fall off. I couldn't care less what the neighbors think.

We’ve had success after booking by third party site in getting the hotel host/hostess to add our rewards number at check in and got the points. Never hurts to ask…politely.

A dealership tried to sell me a lifetime extended warranty, it was free for 6 months, then $100 a month. My response was No Thanks. I have the cash to pay for repairs after the regular warranty ends. 😂

Agreed about working through the Amex portal. I was in the travel business for many many years. Something I've noticed they don't always show all flight availability vs. What is on airline sites. It is almost like they are forcing you into certain options. Thanks for sharing all these tips.

I've bought quite a few new & used cars over the years, we've had pre-approved financing on several occasions and every time the dealer is able to provide better interest rate, (alot of times thru local credit unions) although we've always had stellar credit rating 800 plus, we always shop at the large volume dealers that have great reputations & except no Gimmicks like Clark says: Do your homework!

Credit Union might be able to help with information about price of new cars to the dealers?
@dougjeter29518 ай бұрын
Sorry, Clark I work at a dealership as a finance manager. The most a dealership can mark an interest rate up is two points. so if we offer you at interest rate of 8% we are buying the rate at 6% I do recommend the buyer check with her credit union first and then let the dealership try to match the credit unions rate
@aonforme33495 ай бұрын
I get what you are saying but this is completely idiotic if the dealership robs you with the junk fees, worthless add-ons, hyperinflated prices, and sleezy tactics to charge thousands over what is justified/reasonable. The 8% on 40k is way different from 8% at 70k. Not saying these are your tactics, but we hear of this way too often.

Just want to point out that sometimes insurance companies will scrap a car, but there is nothing really wrong with it. My son had a deer jump on the car hood and damaged one of the head lights. There was nothing wrong with the car mechanically. The insurance company mechanic couldn't get a replacement because the manufacturer stopped making the parts for that car model, so the car was "scrapped" by the insurance company. We got the value of the car payout. Our mechanic was able to find a salvaged head light. He replaced it for about $600. And the insurance company re-insured the car with no problems.

If you buy a salvage title with hail damage then you can get a good deal, if it's water damage then don't even bother.

Ty Clark I need to know how to finance a car with a mid range credit score
@Clark8 ай бұрын
It's the same process, no matter your credit score. The key to getting the best rates available to you with your credit score is securing the financing ahead of time with a credit union or online bank (whichever offers the best rate). 💚 Here's how to buy a new car: clark.com/cars/how-buy-new-car/ Here's how to buy a used car: clark.com/cars/how-buy-used-car/

When we had to buy a car for the Mrs we called our Credit Union and pre-arranged finance. The Financing Director at the dealership took a look at the terms from the credit union , came out to meet with us and said: "We're not even going to try to match this!" 😂😂
@cindypatrick7858 ай бұрын
We did the same in 2008 when we were able to get 3.8% interest w our credit union. We bought our Kia Optima . Already having our finances handled sure made the time we spent in the sales office less stressful 🙂

Orbitz took me for $$$ on an excursion, a vendor did not show up for, while on vacation in Mexico. Completely no consideration and took the side of the vendor, with no investigation. This was about 10yrs ago and they lost a lifetime customer.

Buying a brand new car is one of the worst investments you can make. Buy a used Honda or Toyota and you are good to go.
@MaryLopez-em3rc6 ай бұрын
A car you commute in and use for everyday life is never an investment. It’s another machine in your household that breaks down and eventually needs to get replaced. I normally buy certified used vehicles in the past, but in 2020 bought a new 2019 CrV at a dealer just a little more than people were asking for used ones. There’s so many electronics on vehicles now we got the car and dealer warranty through Costco buying program.
