If they really wanted to protect consumers they would allow cars to be sold factory direct instead of making it mandatory that new cars have to be purchased from a dealer.

The idea sounds amazing, but in the end, once there's no more competition, the manufacturer will do the same with different tactics. It almost always happens, unfortunately
@MrWizards197411 ай бұрын
@@JB__23__ No more than any other company selling any other competitive product. Think of it this way. I was a residential contractor for over 20 years. I cant imagine if a law said that I had to buy my tools from a dealer and not a store or direct from the manufacturer. Car dealers never sell at MSRP but a factory could. If we had the choice to buy factory direct things would be very different.
@ygrittesnow170111 ай бұрын
@@JB__23__How much does that mandatory middle man add to the purchase price of a car/truck? Seems like a win win for the buyers and the manufacturer. The Ford Maverick hybrid would be a great example. Ford touted this as an affordable step into the hybrid market. Setting the MSRP at $23,815. I would challenge you to find this vehicle at any dealership for less than 30k.

Politicians! Ron DeSantis of Florida signed a bill quietly about 9 months ago which mandates that any car sold brand new, to a customer must go through a dealership. Why? Because he does not work for the people of florida. He works for the dealerships of Florida. Yes, intentionally carved out an exception for Tesla.

The "Don't be afraid to walk away" is important. Last time we bought a new car, we decided ahead of time that we'd look at some cars, and then we'd go to lunch and talk about it before we decided... So when we went to each dealer, we told them that up front. That way, they knew there was a 0% percent chance they would be selling us a car during that first visit... It made it much more comfortable for us...

@@MsAchampion That would be because they are trade-ins, thus, not “brand new.” The story says she got a “brand new” Hyundai from a Toyota dealer, which makes no sense.
@amzarnacht671011 ай бұрын
Or they also sell Hyundais from that dealership...
@emmettturner945211 ай бұрын
@@amzarnacht6710 Then they would’ve said “Stone Mountain Hyundai.” For example, a dealer here in Newnan sells GM and Hyundai. If you bought a Buick then they would say you got it from “Southtowne Chevrolet Buick GMC.” If you got a Genesis they would say you got it from “Southtowne Hyundai of Newnan.” Motorcycle dealers are the same way. I remember looking for a Kawasaki dealer in 2008 and the website directed me to one called “House of Kawasaki” in Princeton, WV. I was not surprised to see that they were actually called “House of Motorcycles” and that they were listed with a different name for each of the manufacturers they carried new. Anyway, I just went to Stone Mountain Toyota’s site and hit “Browse New.” Sure enough it’s 100% Toyota. No Hyundai. So once again: How do you buy a “brand new” Hyundai from another *brand* dealer? I’m wiling to get it was a trade in and was the exact opposite of “brand new.”

I want a Federal Level Nationwide Law that demands Dealers to only place a sticker on the car of the Actual Out-the-Door price... that way, there are no hidden fees or add-ons. So, dealers will have to be honest in their markups and prices, which will allow consumers a better playing fields or price competition for autos. We expect Price Transparency when we shop for all other goods; groceries, clothing, electronics, etc., and it should be the same for Autos too.

The Macon dealer did the job for $120, yep, same job for $120. Also, the addl Macon dealer markup at that dealership was about $500 vs. $1500 to $1900, for the same new 2024 Hondas, sold in my larger metro city. Was the drive worth my time. Yep, my car is a hybrid and only used about $9 of gas roundtrip.
