Love the goldfish analogy! My own 'identity' was locked in stone with a childhood trauma...and that is where I stayed. Once I saw the core issue, I began to grow! It was, and still is a painful journey - dealing with a lifetime of non-living. After suppressing my 'self', and seeing the truth of it, I entered a phase of great despair. Challenging one's inner thoughts and embedded default programs is not an easy road. Yet it is the only road to inner peace. Best to all my fellow travelers.

This is fantastic advice! I started journaling in January 2020. It changed my life. I also keep a log of what I do daily (tasks, chores, activities, milestone achieved), because then I know I have been putting in the reps for my goals even if I don't achieve them as fast as I had imagined. It makes it more difficult to give up on yourself.

Interesting analogy. I think the most overused phrase on earth is " Just be yourself ". Most people don't know and will never live up to who they really are.
@KingaGorski
@KingaGorski 3 ай бұрын
True. And a lot of the time "yourself" is a person who's not yet fully healed or at their best or highest self-expression. That said, "just be yourself" can be sage advice for those who are fully rooted and sure of who they are, who've done (and continue to do) "the work", and know how to be of service to themselves and the greater good.

Nobody can keep you from growing. Thats an absolute impossibility. You chose to stay in a relationship where you couldn't be authentic, until ultimately you didn't. "Negative emotions are a call to action" - aka, a call to adventure!! I listened to the Psycho-Cybernetics audiobook a couple years ago and it was such an interesting listen. Our self-concept is everything over the external stuff. And your story/point about age (perceiving ourselves as being too young vs. too old to do something) is a battle that's surely as old as time itself... we're the right age for something when *we* decide we are. Awesome video ❤‍🔥

spot on: identity shifting is actually identifying whatever exists inside of you that puts walls between your true core self and the actions you carry out in the name of "being who you are", be they false beliefs (i'm unworthy, undeserving, unlovable...), misplaced shame, guilt, etc. in my case, i very recently transformed away from thinking i was not worthy of love NOT by finally believing i was loveable, but by finally understanding how i kept feeding the monster of negative self-talk (which never led to a good place), and then stopped feeding it this left me with what my core self already knew: i am loveable et voila, transformed

I am reinventing myself - I am coming out of a decade of severe illness from tick diseases & mold illness. Diagnosed adhd which explains so much of my life - started on modafinil which has been a game changer! My brain is finally clear & I can focus & actually FINISH tasks!! I am simplifying my life, getting rid of all the clutter that built up, simplifying my schedule, self care is a priority as is self development. I have said many times during my illness that I just want my life back- but my life wasn’t great mostly due to my own poor choices.. I don’t want my life back- not the old life anyway.. I am reinventing myself, developing myself into someone new & better- transforming into the best me.. it feels great to be on this path!

Dear Clark, behold your fix-all video's claim, "Change inside, you'll never be the same!" Max Maltz snipped but soon did see, Plastic tweaks don't set the spirit free. "Answer the call!" you gleefully shout, Change your essence, inside and out. Shed your shadows, stack your wins, Reinvent daily-the new you begins. Thanks, Clark, for your grand advice, I'll morph my identity, roll the dice. With a sprinkle of psyche and a dash of Zen, I'll craft a new me, but… who am I again?

A lot of excellent points about self-reinvention. Never really looked at it from the angles you outlined. I've been trying to adopt self change for a while now more than ever in my life, but always been pulled back by the outside view. Sort of how you said the "identity" you were given growing up and the things you tell yourself. This has spoken to me in ways I've never taken the time to think about. Will definitely check out the book you talked about as well for a deeper dive into the mind of the writer's view.

As someone who learned how to identity shift in his late teens (on my own), I will say that the most important thing is to find a root/foundation which is unchangeable and unshakable. Else you may find yourself "lost at sea". Yes, you might be cruising in the biggest boat you can create, but without a root/foundation, you'll find it impossible to ever find "home" again. Sort of like a method actor who's great at assuming a ton of roles, but eventually loses sight of the pivotal question "Who am I?". Thus the end result is a person that only wears masks upon masks, and you'll find it very challenging if not impossible to find real connection.

I just figured it out, everybody wants to be good, wants to be rich, wants to be productive but as you were telling there is something pulling them down initially it is fear of unknown but over time it becomes a pattern in everything that we think but "if you believe that everything is your decision it's yours and there is no voice inside you every decision it's yours naturally that voice would go down and true beliefs about yourself would shine. It works really well if your struggling with addiction.

Love this content and the other videos. If you are not coming from a Christian background, you can skip the rest of this comment. For anyone coming at this identity thing with even a hint of Christianity, you would also enjoy Tim Keller's work. And Keller offers a bit of caution in this transformative process. More specifically, that self-actualization runs into problems because "becoming fully oneself” does not factor in God typically. We want to become more like Christ through our transformation. Content like Clark's can work if we think about our core (4:09) in the context of our creator--humanity as a reflection of God's image. And in the same way Clark talks about shedding beliefs and stories, we can shed this idea of earning God's love or approval. He loves us first, knowing we are naturally rebellious. We do good works and try to become better people because we are loved--not to earn love.

As stupid as it seems to be, I grew up believing in BS superstitions such as sneezing over someone’s plans for the future means his plans won’t ever happen, or when my right eyelid twitches, it means something bad is going to happen to me. I struggle daily to disbelieve in these nonsensical ideas, yet the most I struggle to remind myself how illogical they are, the more they get realer to me. This is one of the major obstacles I am dealing with. I have been through therapy as well to manage such intrusive ideas, but I don’t know where I am failing in trying to stop such beliefs. At this date, they control me more than I control them.

I did mine by accident… kinda off. I built my own house an ambition since aged 10. I worked on it for 4 years … I never went out etc I just worked on the house. In that time I let myself go 😒 But then began caring about my appearance more I realised my image was soo different from 4 years ago… I have fair hair to mix in with the grey I developed 😂 I like myself more …

Love Clark's videos on transformation, but sometimes I want to shift my understanding of the past! If anyone else feels that way, my channel, The History Code, is all about digging up those fascinating facts that completely shift how you see the world.

I feel like my reason to live is to write and even if my writing was complimented by my teachers I can't see myself to realize my dream to make peoples live through my stories so just writing a short paragraph will make me embarassed and lose confidence there's a lot of amazing writer so standing out feel so far out of my reach hope I can get through it

It’s REAL life experiences and we have false advertising happening because they have convinced them they have to coach when employees are what they are supposed to be Gary v was highly accurate we need no coaches doing this
