I remember the first time I saw the 58 impala in a magazine ad. I was transfixed. I still am.

Impala, where it all started, I want one as well.

Id take the Pontiac. I'm a Mopar guy but a 58 Tri Power Bonneville is one of my favorite cars of the 1950's. Their 330 horsepower 370 cubic inch Tri Power engine made them one of the fastest production cars you could buy in 1958. The only cars with a higher horsepower rating in 1958 I believe were the Mercury with the 430 cubic inch 400 horsepower Super Marauder engine with 3×2 induction, the Chrysler 300 with the 380 horsepower dual quad 392 Hemi or 390 horsepower fuel injected version, and the DeSoto Adventurer with its 345 horsepower dual quad 361 cubic inch wedge engine

These 58 GM cars are nice but the best looking car of 58 is the Dodge Custom Royale 2dr hardtop. Go watch videos on it, stunning car.

58 Chevy is very good looking. Convertible or coupe, I'd live either.

The 58 Buick limited was the nicest GM that Year imo

Don't get me wrong...the 58 Impala is a thing of beauty. But the 58 Tri Power Bonneville was faster and also a bit more upscale than the Impala. Love the 1958 J2 Oldsmobile's as well

The ‘58 Bonne was a head turner then and even more so now. Watch when one rolls into your next car show, breathtaking

Whatever dude! '58 Buick and Olds are gorgeous. If any GM product of that year are weird looking its the Impala. The rear end is pretty weird.

58 Chev Impala on American Graffiti is the one that made me first really take notice to how nice this year was.

I disagree - the '58 Buick Limited is a real beauty. Also, the Bonneville debuted in '57.

Pontiac all the way. I just wish they made a manuel transmission.

I have always had a tough time with these 2, just have to have both of them! But, not at 50,000 ea. Everything has become ridiculous.

wide track Pontiac started in 1959,a far better handling car.

Plus they punched out the 370 to 389 cubic inches for 59. The hottest 389 with Tri Power was rated at 345 horses that year. That's when Pontiac started dominating NASCAR

My uncle had a 58 and a 59 which looked cheaper quality.

Tri power is a lot more desirable than fuel injection on Pontiacs. Convertables are not worth 150 grand at stock.

As I have said before I am a Bowtie lover ! But I love the 58 Poncho The.prices given also reflect on the availability of the MUCH rarer Pontiac ! you said it yourself you see more 58 Impalas than the 58 Bonnevilles. Just a fact Gentleman !!!!!

The 348 and 409 were both 'big blocks' engines... look the same except oil dipstick placement... The '58 Chevy in American Graffiti movie is the most famous one... owner bought it off the studio for $300 before the movie came out... 348" tripower engine... '59 Caddy taillights...
@montymatilda5 жыл бұрын
They were a mid sized block and wedge design, not big block.
@timothylines38675 жыл бұрын
turbo fire engines are not big block engines.the one thing they have in common ,the crank shafts are interchangeable[348/409 only].do the math ,bowtie is the greatest label on earth.i would take the 1958 impala over any other,of any make.
@michaelbenardo56952 жыл бұрын
The 348 and 409 are Turbo Thrust engines. The small blocks are Turbo Fire.

I've always considered the 1958's as the best looking Pontiacs and Chevys of the '50's......I do prefer the Chieftain to the Bonne, and the Bel Air to the Impala aethetically, though.....the extended tails of the Bonne and Impala spoil the overall proportions, imo........
@jackanderson25994 жыл бұрын
Actually the '58 Bonneville is the same length as the Chieftain @ 211.68 inches, while the Star Chief is 215.53 inches (refer to original 1958 Pontiac sales brochure). It wasn't until 1959 that the Bonneville became the longest Pontiac model series. As the owner of a '58 Bonneville convertible survivor, I have to vote for the Bonne. Though from a purity of design the Impala is more attractive (my subjective opinion, of course), the in-your-face garishness of the Pontiac is more representative of the spirit of 1950's automotive culture.

I like the looks of the lower trim level cars too. To me less chrome=cleaner styling. I'll take the Pontiac in this one. Much better performer than the Impala especially if the Poncho had Tri Power
