As far as I am aware from official rulings, Airball is incorrect ( 49:10 ). You can still target a player with Athreos's triggered ability even if they have less than 3 life. They just will not be able to pay, so you will then return the creature to your hand.

You can absolutely target players at less than 3 life. The only time the rule he's referring to comes into effect is if there are no legal choices for the targeted player to make, or no legal targets for the ability (player is hexproof). Since there is still one legal choice they must choose the creature returning to hand and the ability does not get removed from the stack.

I'm disappointed that the one true god, Xenagos, wasn't chosen to be a commander. But as always the episode was a blast and it's always good to see MaldHound on an episode.

My 1st commander deck was a Xenagos deck and it was fun putting out big creatures then doubling their power and giving them haste.

If you are below 3 you can be target of Athreos, God of Passage's ability The target can't choose to lose 3 life but has to choose to return the creature to the hand

what airball said at 49:15 is incorrect. If you are below 3 hp you can still be targeted, but in the rules it says you can't pay resources you don't have if an effect says you have to pay something to do a thing. So if aiball has less than 3 life than nerdgirl can keep targeting him and always get her stuff back to her hand due to airball not having three life to pay to stop the card from going to her hand.

Very fun game. Everyone was a threat at the end (except maybe Airball, though he did come in clutch with attempting to prevent Klothys's trigger). Fun game. The indestructible blockers for everyone made the game trudge though since there weren't enough combats.

I mean, he also won the last one... We never invite a guest to rush them out of the game. We go after the person who we believe is the biggest threat. He picks strong commanders and doesn't hold back in the early game. :)
