Protip: When you meet Joe on Route 32, after talking to him, you can leave the room, come back to him, and talk to him again. You can do this several times, and eventually HE WILL DIE. YES! Was hoping you'd play this soon! I have oddly fond memories of this game, despite never having completed it. I was woefully unprepared for it as a young 7 or 8 year old gamer (though I did get close to the end), and I never got back to it as an adult despite clearly remembering it.
@co813853 жыл бұрын
This game IS pretty deep, and a bit cryptic, for an NES game. I had received this game as a Christmas gift when I was younger, but I don't think that I understood what I was supposed to do until I found either a Nintendo Power, EGM, of GamePro or something, that told you how to find the hermit, how to get the sword, and who all of the bosses were.
@ichigokarasu3 жыл бұрын
I was around the same age, and yeah, it was definitely a more complicated experience than most games back then. I remember wandering around a whole lot, but having to find the right routes to traverse to engage the bosses to get powers to get to other areas, was a little over my 7 year-old head, haha.
@Datenshi-Beats Жыл бұрын
@@ichigokarasu I don't think this applies only for 7yo kids. This game is cryptic just as Zelda II and Simon's Quest. Somehow I thought it was worth beating though so used this video guide. I'm conflicted in giving a rating when a game mostly can't guide you.
@Datenshi-Beats Жыл бұрын
Hey man coolass Cecil profile. I love retro games, hard to relate to others around my age when it comes to 80-90s games, being a late 90s kid of course shouldn't make sense, but I simply rather enjoy learning about what came before.
@LordSephleon Жыл бұрын
@@Datenshi-Beats Hey, thanks for the compliment! FF4 is my favorite game of the series (though I do recognize it isn't objectively the best), and Cecil has always been my favorite main hero because I sympathize with his duality. Yeah, this game was definitely beyond me, and I was a perfectionist little kid when it came to video games since they were my passion. It's just like how I couldn't beat some games when they first released, but returning to them over the course of a few years usually was enough to put me over the edge: Blaster Master was one such game. I just never managed to beat this particular game despite getting pretty far even with time being on my side since I started focusing on newer games.

I've been hoping for this one for a long time! Your videos are such a great way to relive childhood memories of playing the ol' NES. What's crazy is that modern generations will never understand the mystery behind these games back then. No internet, little magazine coverage for most games, and not much more than back cover artwork to learn from. Sometimes you didn't even have instructions from rental stores. But oh man...those were the best summers of our lives...playing outside, riding bikes, swimming at the pool, and long weekends with buddies trying to beat and/or just understand games like this. No endless choices of games to download or stream. No loot box garbage or pay to win. Just pure exploration and seeking out tips from kids on the bus or study hall😆

Excellent video, with just the right amount of humor throughout. It would appear that "Guycott" would be a stylish romanization of a slightly academic Japanese word for "skeleton", meaning the whole joke is on par with saying "Tom Skellington" in English. The "start with everything" password basically translates to "a genius remembers what is forgotten" or "a genius remembers what they forgot", which makes sense if you've beaten the game already and just want to get some revenge with a full suite of items. This is another one of those NES games that has a lot of seeds of more modern games, that just needed a little cooking time or stronger hardware to reach its full potential. Expressive sprites and animation, a storyline with a few surprises here and there, and an offbeat sense of humor throughout. As always, great work!

Love the videos. Not sure if anyone has noted this yet, but you can defeat the purple monster that’s blocking the way up the mountain on the left side of Route 42. You have to time it right, but you can shoot the monster just before it jumps to make the mountain shake. Hit it a few times and it will explode. Even better, it won’t respawn, so you’ll never be blocked from going up that side of the mountain again.

I really love and appreciate these videos. Many of these games I played, but never finished. Largely because we didn't have guides or videos to watch to help us three, and if a game wasn't covered in Nintendo Power, you wouldn't get much help until the GameFAQs age and even then it would just give you a "what to do next" and not so much "this is how you can beat this boss or make this next part easier". Anyway, I'm grateful for the videos, and I am impressed at your pace of putting them out. Keep the hits coming! I remember seeing this game in Wish Books and at Toys R Us on their wall of NES Coupons and boxart... but the cool name and the interesting box art wasn't enough for me or my friends at the time to risk getting a game that nobody knew about and wasn't willing to take the risk of that ONE Game you got being a terrible one (that was the WORST... you'd have this game nobody wanted to trade with you and you had to pretend was AWESOME just to get someone's Mega Man 2 or Faxanadu).

It's when you get to the very last part of putting the medallions in the Doomsday Bomb that will really test your patience. You have to do it correctly, and you are given six chances at it. Each chance that you use up, the timer will gradually count down faster. A trick is to try to insert all six medallions in their starting positions without pressing your D-pad, in the hopes that at least one of them will go into the slots. Then, move your D-pad one position right and repeat the process. If you fail to defuse the Doomsday Bomb (whether using up all six of your chances, or time expiring) you will get the bad ending. But if you manage to defuse it, the alien who greeted you before the room to the Doomsday Bomb will speak to you for the last time (telepathically), and then Bang goes to meet the Hermit and then his friends Mary and the Commander on top of Mount Demonhead. Once there, the Commander will tell Bang that the real Professor Plum managed to escape, and that Bang had dealt with a fake version.

Oh man, this is the other game along with Legacy of the Wizard that I got at a flea market as a kid, no manual, and could never figure out what to do or how to progress. I'd play the first few levels, mess around, listen to the great soundtrack, and then get stuck. Good choice for a video for sure. I was going to suggest this one at some point. Will be good to finally see what to do after all these years, hah.

I would really like to see both the Golgo 13 games get covered at some point in the future.

You should definitely do McKids. Probably the best brand tie in game ever made

I loved this game as a kid. It was a pretty easy game once you figure out what to do and where to go much like crystalis. Pretty cool to see it played through again
