Class 101 upgrade, detail and weathering

Hi everyone, here is my 25+ year old Lima Class 101 DMU which I have just been working on. I really enjoy detailing older models so that they look okay alongside newer models.
This is the only Lima 101 I held on to, having gradually replaced the others with newer Bachmann models. While the Lima moulding was very good, I was always conscious that the front cab windows were too long, and never looked quite right - I was always really fussy about my DMU models, sad I know!
Anyway, Bachmann have not produced the nice Regional Railways livery yet, so this one stays! The black around the windscreens helps mask the incorrect size.

Thanks Paul. Weathering is something I really enjoy. In the past always used powders, my favourite being Tamiya which do give excellent results. but gradually come off over time when handling the models. So just recently I have been experimenting with dry brushing Citadel acrylics having seen the Games Workshop videos on here. Getting good results. Thanks for your comments. Best regards. Vivian

I don't have a layout at the moment as I, somewhat impulsively, decided to rebuild it with better baseboards....that was over a year ago and I haven't got round to laying any track yet! I've always loved the Class 101, and like yourself, I'm waiting for Bachmann to release it in Reggie rail, but your Lima one looks good! The black around the cab windows definitely helps, looks good on your layout bud!

Hi thanks for comment. I think this ones going to stay (reprieved from Vic Berry's haha 🤣!) as the Bachmann DMU's, even the old tooling 108s are now over £200 new and that's without DCC silent let alone sound 😲. Unbelievable really! Cheers. Vivian.
