If you go back and watch the Sports Festival, you can actually see Ms. Joke among the spectators. She wore a mask back then, and was seen talking to another hero about how useful Shinso's Quirk would be against villains.

This test shows, on a much smaller scale than in the real world, that popularity is a double-edge sword for heroes. With a surge in popularity the UA students get from the Sports Festival, they also reveal their quirks and their inner workings, or at the very least them when they try their hardest to win. For example, Shinso's quirk, that works almost entirely on the basis of surprise and someone answering his question, is basically useless once a villain knows how his quirk works and what he looks like. But this is also a fantastic opportunity for class 1-A to learn what it would be like to fight villains who know their quirks while the students of 1-A themselves are not aware of their opponents' quirks.

Yeah making the sports festival public is pretty stupid on the schools part. It should be a closed off event and only registered heroes can attend for scouting purposes. Shinso's quirk is a little bit better then your giving him credit for though. It's not just answering questions...any verbal response to him will trigger his ability. Not just answering questions. But yeah the more people that know, the harder his job becomes.

I also like how Uraraka to this point hasn’t even officially realized she’s actually crushing on Deku. And Toga got in her head back on camp that she could be hurdling towards obsession. (She’s not.) Uraraka goes through a very unique balancing act with her feelings and her friends are just like “Ask them out! Do it now! Don’t process!”

One thing I love is Aizawa mic dropping Joke like that after being all smug and condescending to his class. And she'll be salty about it in the next episode too, her class based their plan on outdated information making it pretty easy for Class 1 A to catch them off guard.

Monoma gives class 1-A so much grief because he is self-conscious about his quirk, which is so unnecessary. Someone with his quirk could dynamically alter a team's balance on the fly. With the right tactician, he makes a team much more flexible and effective. There is absolutely no reason for him to harbor those insecurities.

The ironic thing is, Monoma himself IS the right tactician. ((Spoilers)) We’ve seen him in action only 2 times in the show and both times he was able to form an effective plan and carry it out quite well, even if he didn’t quite get what he wanted either time he still proved himself to be no easy enemy. He’s a smart cookie and uses his power and tactics excellently. Which is why it’s so sad that he’s obviously still really down on himself. I thought I’d hate his character but seeing just how competent he is made me really love him, because it’s so real-I’ve met people in real life who would be so incredible if only they didn’t get in their own way with their self doubt.

Another day another MHA training arc/test! Apparently the cast hasn’t reached full capacity yet in this show. (Don’t expect THAT to change. This cast is one of the biggest I’ve seen.) And we got the career track to explore again as they advance to the next level. With SEVERAL schools gunning for the same position. We start off with Hatsume talking to Deku about marketing himself hero wise. And Uraraka just doesn’t seem to like their interactions. Not that I blame her after last episode. She just put them all in danger for an extended period to sell off stuff without listening to them. And now that she IS, her memory seems to be back as well on more details of these people. Kinda a rough turnaround for the past few minutes. And unlike Iida and Uraraka, Deku isn’t enforcing any boundaries really and just lets her do her thing. Probably not easy to watch. I know Hatsume means well, but Uraraka wants to keep Deku safe. And this might be her catching up on how UNSAFE he’s been with how little time has passed since All-Might’s last stand. (It sounds like I’m overreacting but Hatsume did just throw literal BOMBS at her friends.) At least Deku isn’t unaware with how much padding is on his new suit. It won’t do him much good in the case he has to use 100% which is ALWAYS a possibility. But it ABSOLUTELY compliments his upped level we’ve seen him using. We still haven’t reached a point where I’ll explain why I’m so sure Deku is at a new level (he used to be 57 mph at 5% and now I think he’s moving at 92 mph ever since after his Muscular battle at the same level) but just keep in mind Deku’s 5% although the same % is doing a LOT more than it did in the Stain arc and final exams in results. Just need to point out I’ve been watching those details carefully. Disintegrating large rocks just because he has extra padding when he could barely BRUISE people at his old level is a LEAP. As much as people have evolved in these arcs, that’s easily the biggest jump. (And also goes to show simply how much EVERYONE has improved for Kaminari and Kirishima to not even note how much stronger he is. It’s not like they aren’t keeping pace) Is anyone going to note that Monoma’s idea of not being eccentric is a literal tux with coattails? XD what is he missing? A monocle, top hat, and cane? Monoma is apparently a high society snob. (Why does that not surprise me either?) The provisional license test in of itself is such a great concept to keep the pressure high on the kids. In a test of people who have trained double or TRIPLE the time you have, expanded quirk arsenals, and unknown conditions for how they accomplish that is a BIG ask. Apart of me wondered why they were pushing so hard for 1st years to go for the license, but if I’m going to guess, it’s because of the villain attacks. They had to order the kids into inaction 3 times in life and death scenarios and scolded those who did act each time. With these licenses that is no longer an issue. A lot of people criticize Uraraka’s feelings for Deku kind of hold back her character in many ways but I disagree. This is DEFINITELY where her crush became recognizable and official. And from how she’s acted in the story, I’d have to say she doesn’t recognize her feelings since she likely has never had a crush before. She herself doesn’t change her course of being supportive and protective of her friends and seeing her evolve in strength and ability, (she’s STILL one of the strongest in her class and has been keeping pace with the 4 top guys) but it’s the tone of those AROUND her that change. THEY want to see her make her decision on the spot, THEY want her to pursue those emotions and she JUST sort of realized they exist. But we do have a new set of characters to get through. Starting off with my favorite of them. Inasa Yoarashi. He is in my opinion the STRONGEST student character. No exceptions. And I LOVE this man. How would I describe him? I’d have to say he has high functioning autism. My older brother has it too and it did NOT take me long to see their similarities. XD I love how the girl in the group points out his bleeding forehead and his immediate response is “I’m fine! I love blood!” It takes zero seconds to say he loves everything. And I enjoy every INSTANT this guy is on screen. There is no internal mic for him. And being immediately put above Todoroki in feats without even seeing him in action is actually scary he’s not your ally here. Ms Joke and Aizawa’s interactions are AMAZING. She’s so forward apart of me wonders if she’s actually serious or trying to make the impossible effort of actually making Aizawa laugh. And either one is just amazing on premise alone. Aizawa knows what he’s in for but he’s literally entertaining every thought process she throws at him. Like he’s trying to get her to be serious for a change too. How do these two seem BALANCED?! Yo Shindo is actually Deku’s 1st design before it became official. I’ll leave him off the subject board for now before we see more of him. Mera needs ALL the coffee. ALL OF IT. A government official is just DONE with people. And like any good official he has to spring some cruelty of the real world. We have gone from a 50% pass rate to about a 5%. And we’re just getting started at the disadvantages of this circumstance for the kids. Aizawa has done YET ANOTHER logical deception and has full faith his kids to handle the bad hand. A tradition of targeting UA is revealed and Deku is dealt the WORST hand as the most openly targetable person in the ENTIRE ARENA. Everyone knows the quirks of course, but to NOT go after the guy who shatters himself when going overboard in a position they think he can’t use his quirk safely like in the sports festival is just an unorthodox strategy. Even with Deku’s high development, that’s rough for both him AND anyone near him and the class itself is ALREADY targeted. This is why the ultimate moves had to be developed on such short time frame. Team efforts are a lot harder to spot what people are doing but they are there. The best way to beat this is to use something they haven’t seen. And they aren’t just protecting themselves but each other too. Class 1-A is by now expected to have a whole new semester worth of training done. And thankfully it shows. Every kid shows incredible skill and control from Mineta whipping every dodgeball, Mina having a whole new spread system figured out, Tokoyami being close range, Sero spiraling his tape, Iida processing higher speeds and Uraraka BREAKING THE RULES OF GRAVITY AGAIN. And we have a new broken rule! One jump, CURVES IN THE AIR while floating herself. She’s not flying she’s falling in style. That’s not REMOTELY possible for her rule set unless you throw in ANOTHER facet to her power and this is a broken one. Changing gravity’s natural direction to what she’s effecting would allow a curve like that. Even if she has mobility equipment that movement is FAR too smooth of a curve. (I don’t even know if she does here she was looking for nausea lowering equips) I had to mention that because her quirk abilities are just INSANITY. And we know this is going to amp up because if there’s one thing I saw on top of these crazy new levels, the other schools did NOT look concerned or impressed. But ready for more. And that’s where we leave off.

And the ironic thing is from her first lines, I consider Ms. Joke a better role for her than Komi.😅 It's mainly the fact that I see Aoi Koga as the definitive Komi VA. She is literally the first one when thinking of Komi (and one reason why the JP sub of the anime is the definitive experience)

Because if you made a plan that means you automatically lose upon the other kid improving that's kinda on you, getting the info is an advantage for informing a plan that can capitalize on the people who perhaps slept on their laurels or whose quirk couldn't change too much, like for example the brain control guy is probably not going to start shooting lazer beams through his eyes right? Or momo (tho her improvement is mostly mental which is harder to gage in general) or even midoriya for example, his body shouldn't be adaptable to that amount of strength so while less improbable than the last example it still checks, but if you fail to capitalize there you should be able to adapt and make choices based on the bew info, they couldn't have possibly fixed all of their flaws that you scouted, and short of something ridiculous like deku literally unlocking 100% of OFA and going full allmight you should still be good provided you are not a 1 plan dingus

I can't help but wonder if Eraser is trying to be clever here. By having first years take the test he's actually reducing the Sports Festival problem. The proportional change in style, knowledge, and quirk advancement is much greater in the first year (where they'll have had like two or three months of training and development, then three or so months of improvement on top of that) than second year (where it's like fifteen months, and their style is a lot more set in stone).

Nah... first it's not like it's just class 1A. Both the first year classes of UA are taking the test a year early. And no way are you more capable then people that have been training for 15 months to perfect a chosen style. More then half the class don't even have special moves yet. They're rushing them because of the constant villain attacks and the realization that without All Might it's only going to get worse.

And I think the fact both classes are taking the exam is probably the deciding factor against it, I'd have to start stretching things an awful lot to come up with a coherent argument against that one! But Eraserhead does prefer sudden surprise attacks and rational answers, and Ms. Joke does note how different he and his class seem this year. It doesn't seem out of character for him to think "why not? I think they could do it. If they make it they're ahead of the game and they don't the crushing will be a valuable learning experience."

In s4, she doesn't, and in s5, there's only 1 scene about it since Deku gave her the small All Might present. In s6, her confrontation with Toga wasnt about Deku. In the manga, in almost 100 chapters, it is mentioned only once. So please tell me how this narrative you're trying to deceive yourself with isn't totally false? After she decided to stop thinking about it, it's hardly mentioned. The audience knows but the story itself hardly brings it up. Uraraka even gets a more heroic drive "Who helps the heroes when they're the ones that need saving?" Boiling her character down to just Deku is incredibly disingenuous.

Havent watched all the seasons, but i hated how they developed Uraraka's character, it seemed like she would have had an amazing character progression with intense motivation, but since season two ended her character became so much focused on being the love interest for Deku, while he developes on his own I dunno, i think they could've done a romance without making her character lose the fire she gained in her fight with Bakugo
