Class 58s x 6 being exported from Newport Docks 2004

58020/24/25/30/31 and 09102 doing the shunting, recorded in May 2004 being loaded for export and in their new light blue GIF livery Video starts at Cardiff Canton viewed from the
now out of bounds bridge. Then to Newport before being delivered to the docks.

About 25-30 years ago i drove coal trains out of the north east of England, South Dock Sunderland, to the Aire Valley power stations, we changed crew at Knottingly depot, i remember seeing these locos there and admiring them, they were very rare visitors to the NE but do recall seeing them around occasionally.

One question Mike in all your vids you right next to the locos how are you able to get so close and film them? Are you given special clearance to get close and film how is it possible??

I think it helps to be known on the railways in the area of South Wales. I retired 20 years ago, previously being Chairman of the Chamber of Trade, also the IBA etc and also business contacts at Newport Docks. In other words, knowing who to contact for access. Hope that helps
