Eggs in Pokémon GO are legally considered loot boxes due to the fact that you can purchase incubators. It’s just like those games where you have tons of “reward boxes” but you can only open one at a time and it’s time gated and then you can purchase additional “keys” or “better keys” to open the more boxes at once or open them quicker. But these lawsuits specifically are after Niantic’s eggs. That’s why recently Niantic legally had to disclose what can hatch in eggs and what the odds are. If you remember, you couldn’t see what would hatch in eggs before and you definitely couldn’t see what the odds were. They added a “rarity” tier list for eggs only relatively recently.

The eggs are loot boxes. Even with the infinite incubator, if you want to fully utilize hatching eggs you need to purchase incubators. I’ve skipped plenty of egg events because I didn’t have incubators. Then there’s rare Pokémon locked behind eggs with vague knowledge of what actually hatching from them.

I'll get them sooner or later or not at all. Others might not feel that way. Others might feel they need to clear out their egg storage daily and you have to buy incubators to do that. Purchasing incubators plus FOMO plus rng is the very definition of loot box.

Something I don't like is when i'm given a prize from something like PVP or a Slide and it's a Pokemon prize, I'm not liking having to use "personal" pokeballs. If i don't have any pokeballs then I have to wait to catch it and use my LIFES TIME to go spin signs or hope I have a friend gift or two left to open. Im having to give too much of myself to get a reward prize. A reward prize shouldn't cost ANYTHING. they should have premier balls waiting to be used and we throw until we catch it. So may times I waste Pokeballs just trying to catch Slide Prizes or PVP prizes. The raids... It should, or may already say; A "CHANCE" at Catching a Legendary. Because like, Poke AK stated, it's not a guarantee you're going to receive it and i think that's crazy especially if I bought the Raid passes. a couple years ago I quit playing for like a year because I got so fed up with it all. I was trying to catch a Carbink that poped up in the wild and I had to use like 7 or 8 Gold Berries (all I had) and Black balls and tried to get excellent every time and after taking ALL MY GOLD BERRIES and the rest of my black balls, I was left with Red and Blue balls and normal berries and the damn thing just RAN! I shut off the game and didn't open it for a year. I know it didn't make a bit of difference to the game by me not playing for a year but i didn't it anyway. Im back on, of course lol AANNDD nothing's changed... I know there are people that are going to say, just don't play it if you don't like it... I DO like it. I don't like being screwed when im doing my best and using EVERYTHING i have. i know it seems trivial to some but not to people that feel like i do. I hate even griping like this on the internet because of the high and mighty people stuck up their own #utt&ole.

I would say raids, egg hatching and rocket encounters are loot boxes with the reward being randomized. On top of that, they really make it hard to get something good which pressures you to spend/do more

Eggs are definitely LOOT BOXES. Yes raids are one of the only paid items in any game that you can literally get absolutely NOTHING for your money. IE the pokemon winds up running on you.

There does need to be a better refund system, as I can understand a single/one off accidental purchase slip up of say the $170 coin bundle needing to be refunded (been there done that & had to resort to my banks fraud team in order to get my money back/the transaction reversed), but if people are letting their kids access credit cards in order to spend up large over days or weeks or years, then yeah- that's 100% a parenting issue IMO. Most of the tickets could be considered loot boxes couldn't they? Niantic don't state exactly what people are paying for when they purchase a ticket- they instead state things like 'you'll get X,Y,X' "& more".

I've been saying for years that anything pokemon is gambling. It's really sad AF. Pokemon TCG, you open a pack and you could get nothing worth your money spent. Also Remote Raid Passes in pokemon go, you have to buy a raid pass, then you aren't even guarentee'd to get the pokemon. The pokemon jumps out of every last ball, and you're left with just some xp and maybe if you're lucky, some mega energy. Also my friend and I played pokemon go today for about an hour, and we both were running out of space in our bag, constantly having to transfer pokemon just to continue playing. It makes playing anything pokemon, just feel bad up to a point. Also it seems like they've made catching pokemon in PoGo even harder. They break out of balls more often and you almost have to use a berry on every pokemon. But Like why do I have to put my money where my mouth is, to get these legendaries in pokemonGo because I have no friends that play the game.

Not including all the potions which have value to Niantic. 95% of the time I can't get in touch with anyone but an auto bot, that denies my refund. What happens. I join a remote raid, get in the lobby, my first team faints, then I get kicked back to the main screen. They want a picture. How would I take a picture for proof? Plus the remote raid doesn't show up in my journal.

people like to say niantic doesnt refund stuff back but anytime ive ever had an issue they come in clutch deleted 980 ultra balls on accident this year got em back bught a 6500 poke coing expert box on accident also this year got the coins back have done remote raids and have gotten kicked out of halfway through the fight and gotten those passes returned i feel as long as u make em aware of it immediately when it happens theres no issue

I feel whenever they lock a character behind a paywall they shouldn't be allowed to do that. Zarude for an example, we had it free 1 time. Then they brought it back in a paid ticket. They don't back date to give the player a free zarude. New players sign up all the time so there's a disadvantage there. Yes they could have paid but they lock key pokemon behind a pay wall for some. That shouldn't be right. I feel like raid passes and premium items should be behind a pay wall cuz those are optional.

This type of lawsuit has already played out against Apple. It’s the parents fault their child has purchased these not Niantic. Take accountability for your child’s actions people! If it was done through the game using your Apple Pay or Google pay, I’ve gotten refunds for accidental purchases that I claimed immediately. I’m not sure Niantic is the one to sue…you sign waivers when u log in saying u are responsible for purchases made.

I think it’s a parenting issue. Once my son was like 3 and he bought $100 worth of stuff in a game and I was fortunate that Apple refunded me. However it’s like having $100 cash in your wallet and then letting your 3 year old play with your wallet and then they lose the cash. I can’t go sue someone over that. At some point there has to be personal responsibility. Agree though the mobile games are cash cows you keep buying stuff vs like you said some of these console games like one and done

The Boxes are "bundles". If you have a child account the parent has to authorise every purchase the child requests. The only lootbox-like mechanic are the egg hatching and the incense. because you can pay for an item that gives you a random reward. maybe the raids to an extend with IVs and shinies. Hard to say but the game would be insanely boring if there wasn't some sort of "surprise mechanics"

The laws surrounding loot box purchases only require the company to provide the drop rate IE: 1 out of 100. Niantic should provide that information for Egg drops and shiny rates but technically bc you don’t have to buy things to incubate and raid they don’t have to.

90% of the rewards you get from a raid you get from a normal pokestop as well though so paying for the pass just to get the same items as you would from spinning a stop for free doesnt sit right with me. sure you can get rare candies or something but every other item you get from a raid is something you would get from a FREE pokestop spin.
