Great talk...the issue of class always takes a backseat (here in America anyway) to issues like race and gender but I think it is such a huge factor in ones life. "you cant transcend the bed your born in" is a very true statement and balancing the pride and shame of it all is a lifelong struggle. Thanks for addressing these issues and normalizing the emotions a bit.

These are discussions I've wanted someone to share for a long while now, and I'm rather grateful that you've used your platform to highlight these issues. It's a great video, humorous, informative, and just the tiniest bit inspiring. Brilliant.

It is tricky working out what non bookish, or bookish-is, content I can bring on the channel but I do want to use the small platform I have to talk about things that I am passionate about. I am really glad that you enjoyed it.

This was so good! Despite buying my daughter The Book of Queer Monologues for Christmas, I had never heard of Scottee before (fail!) - I'll be keeping up with him now. What a lovely guy, and what a great dynamic the two of you have. I could have watched that for hours

Wonderful video Simon, you and Scottee have the most wonderful chemistry. Although I'm a queer working class woman, I have slightly different lived experiences than you both, and I'm also a parent, but it's so interesting to hear how our experiences are similar in lots of ways. Thank you!

This was so lovely to watch. As a working class Aussie I found the class talk really interesting. Society here is definitely class defined as well but it looks quite different, I think.

Great conversation. I don’t think we are as focused on class here... but that seems to be changing with our current political climate. I loved your guys interaction - you can tell how much he inspires you..... I’d love more videos like this.

I think class might have been what won the presidency in the US, or it seemed that way from the way we saw the news, somehow that evil multi-millionaire managed to get a lot of struggling peoples votes, with his lies... but still. Ooh and I have another conversation like this coming with my lovely friend Kerry as her new book is all about class. And it is a fascinating read.

Interesting discussion! Especially about the relationship between class and awareness of capitalism. I think my own perceptions about class discussions are tinted by the fact that I grew up in an area that was almost entirely immigrants. That meant that you would have people who had parents who were posh back home or highly educated there but were in economic situations that didn't necessarily reflect those things if their education wasn't recognized or their old connections didn't matter. So it becomes a very different conversation when those elements are separated out even if that separation only lasts a generation.

I totally understand this and it is something we didn't touch on but my ex husband was from an incredibly rich family in Brazil, then came to London and found it very different and very difficult.

I am a dyslexic and dyspraxic bookseller and I always felt that if I tell people that. They will then see me as dumb and difficult because my brain works in a different way. I still feel that. Do you ever have those thoughts Scottie?
@SavidgeReads

I can't speak for Scottee but my brother has dyslexia and he feels that he will be judged if he tells people. But as he has just learnt on a course, the moment he told the right people he got amazing support.
