Reena Kartau I absolutely agree. People always think that they themselves are the center of the universe. Everybody does that. And most people don't think twice about someone they just saw on the street. I know how he feels though. I always feel like people are staring and judging when I'm out. I think his problem is social anxiety, not that people are rude to him. But I'm not a mental health professional. I'm just a random person on youtube. So what the hell do I know.

Might have been intended as banter but it's not a professional thing to do while you're working *If you don't dress like the average person you have to expect more people to look at you. I believe this man is misinterpreting attention to his bright, flamboyant clothing with negative feelings towards his weight. He's wearing three primary colours together. This is highly unusual compared to the majority. It's not 'bad', its just very different. There's a reason why kids toys are brightly colourful, or why fruit is so bright, or flowers - because they attract attention - it's human nature to be attracted to bright colours. I'd like to see him leave the house in average everyday clothing (greys, blacks, a splash of colour) and see if he gets the same sort of reactions or reactions based solely on his size. This video was supposed to be about him being marginalized on the streets for being visually overweight. By introducing the element of brightly coloured conspicuous clothing, it muddies the message. It's good science to test one variable at a time. He can't change his weight variable overnight but he can change the clothing variable.

Next he is upset people are looking at him while he is in restaurants but wants people to look at him while he is shopping. Until you figure out how you want to be treated the universe will keep giving you this "shit treatment" Love yourself, be proud of yourself, and treat people with kindness and love. Head up, make eye contract and smile at people. You will be surprised how different the world will treat you. My thing with fat people. If you are really confident with the body you are in there is no reason you need to justify or defend it. This is coming from someone who worked my was off everyday to lose 60 lbs and still have 30+ to lose. I feel amazing, physically and mentally. I always was defending my fatness because of chronic illness. I decided to love myself more than food. My chronic illness is now so much better, tumors shrunk, arthritis and pain significantly better. And because of a sugar free/low carb ketogenic diet I am off anti-depressant and anti-anxiety meds. Your attitude, self talk, and how you feel about yourself is everything.

Coming from somebody who is more overweight than him, and gay also, I don't think he's getting this negative feedback due to being heavy. It seems to be his attitude, fashion choices, and overall personality. While I respect somebody's choices to dress how they want, but you're gonna attract attention no matter who you are or where you go. Putting three primary colours on top of each other makes you look garish regardless. To be honest, it almost seems like he thrives on the negative attention. He was featured by BBC after all, and I am writing this comment. I don't want to unpack everything, but he seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder. He thinks the world is out to get him, and he's so focused on having everyone believe it is.

I'm very tall and "fabulous" - and it's pretty much the same. At one point when I was younger and really frustrated about it, because none of my friends believed that me being me could attract so much negative attention, I had some of them just observe people around me when we went out in public. The validation of someone close to me witnessing it was in a way a relief, but also kind of a double-edged sword because from then on they always noticed it, even when I didn't, and they often got offended on my behalf. It became an added unnecessary distraction. Now I'm just over it, thank god.

i personally have been overweight, Obese, and yes the stares were frequent. I am still constantly stared at due to my physical apperance not pertaining to my size. It doesn't bother me. I am proud of my apperance.

I'm not the type of person to call anyone names or be outwardly rude, and I even try to go out of my way to help people when I know they're being hurt or picked on... But I am guilty of staring and glancing and I didn't realize how much it can affect someone's life. Thank you for posting this. Ultimately, this man has as a much right as anyone else to dress how he likes and to have the body he wants. Some of the abuse he mentions in this film is completely unacceptable, too. However, his opinion that being obese on a BMI chart isn't a problem is part of worrying trend that has emerged in society; you can be 'healthy' at any size. Now, BMI isn't the best calculator because it fails to distinguish muscle from fat, but it's quite clear that his body fat is much higher than is desirable. He describes his health as 'very good' due to a recent medical, but I'd like to see how long he could last on a treadmill before having to quit. As much as he wants 'body autonomy', he will also inevitably expect our tax payer funded health care system to help him out should he come across difficulties owing to this lifestyle choice.

I love his confidence! He’s definitely not insecure. He’s pointing out the insecurities of others though. If you think about it, when you are generally happy with your life and yourself you don’t feel the need of laughing or hurting others because deep inside there is satisfaction about oneself. But when your insecure you make fun, you humiliate and target individuals who are different from you. Confident people have to deal with that on a daily basis. I look at it as if it were god saying, here’s some confidence so you don’t want to commit suicide but the people who will attack you, they are on the verge.
