The 215 engine was developed by Alstom using the Paxman technology after the company's famous and highly successful engine, the Paxman, was originally named Ruston. Without any quality inspection or any test run by the manufacturing company. The reason for this was that the width of the French railways was different from that of the Sri Lankan roads. However, these engines came to Sri Lanka causing a great deal of controversy.
