I'm trying to learn Blender for my projects. Just don't have the money and resources for the other fancy software such as Maya and definitely don't have access to in-house proprietary solutions. The success of "Flow" does offer hope in my endeavors. I'm not going to argue what's best. I'm just going to use what I can get my hands on.

If you were to pay for Maya, you’d find yourself very disappointed after using Blender specially as a beginner . Maya by default is a pretty outdated software. It’s only really powerful with plugins and the good plugins are only found in big studios like Pixar as they have dedicated teams of tech artists to make them for the team.

i just hope people begin to understand why Open Source (Blender in this case, but I'm refering specifically to Open Source Software in any other field) it's so important. It democratizes tecnology. It gives us more artists, devs, etc; People that can change the world in a positive way. And not only that, with strong OSS softwares, the other private companies have to put more stable and cheap prices to compete or make their products sooo much better. It pushes competitivy and fairness based on a community effort. It's great!

its crazy to see that last disney shot, because clearly most of their Iconic characters are in 2D, while they have pretty much abandoned making a new 2D film for sevelar years now. The princess & the Frog was their last 2D movie, and Moana was the last film that they had pitched as a 2D movie, before they decided to go with CG

Animator here, production pipelines have been using MAYA for years even before I joined industry 8 years ago. I just don't see studios integrating Blender into their pipeline. And I don't think blender has caught up with MAYA's animation tools, for example in MAYA we use a 3rd party plugin called ANIMBOT that makes a HUGE difference when it comes to animation output and quality. Personally I feel naked when I animate in Blender, but it makes me happy that I am able to create a stylized animation short film in blender instead of having to use multiple programs (i.e MAYA, subastance painter, houdini, unreal engine) to achieve the same result.

Seems since it’s new, it’s only available to some channels and we don’t have it yet in our settings…😢 some users aren’t liking the feature enabled, channels can opt to turn it off (it’s enabled by default), is it a feature you enjoy on channels?
@O.seuboot2 күн бұрын
@ClassCreatives Yes... it's really good to be able to watch content that I like and understand everything that is said in the video, I thought this feature was available for all channels, but I'm still going to watch your video

Someone made a comment on Instagram that Disney's Presto is just a modified version of Maya. What I know is its similar to Maya(from watching your videos). But is it true what they said?

As a CG Supervisor for both 2d TV and full 3d productions, I've used Maya, Max, and Softimage in a professional capacity over the course of my career. Blender is, in my opinion, an excellent option for production. I've been using Blender exclusively for my professional work over the past four years, and I can't speak highly enough about the program. The dev team is constantly improving performance, resolving bug issues and streamlining overall end user interaction. Once you understand how the program works, Blender is truly a program that facilitates creativity. It's a one stop solution for indie and small teams, and I look forward to it being adopted by the wider industry as we see more projects like FLOW, NEXT GEN, and I LOST MY BODY enter the cultural zeitgeist.

if only blenders animation tools were focused on. It's currently lacking a lot compared to Maya. Its rendering/modelling/2D sides are very good, just does not feel fun to animate with
@ukmonkКүн бұрын
These are being focused on. They have an ‘animation roadmap’ where over the next 3 years they are having a re haul of the animation tools. Blender already has great add on’s to rival Maya. Both Blender and Maya are fantastic and each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Makes me laugh when grown adults get into this silly playground mentality of which is better 😂
@legendarygriffinКүн бұрын
@ukmonk i dont find blenders animation tools fun to work with, how is that a 'silly playground mentality'? I think its great theres a roadmap on the way, thats a good thing to know and as soon as blender can be used effectively for animation and not feel like its a chore, ill be ditching maya asap. Your comment comes across as insulting btw, i have no idea if that was the intention but thats what it reads like

@@legendarygriffin unfortunately as has been said multiple times over years, blender is free, and open source. For the guys up there implementing features and bugfixing, they need donations to go at the speed u would want them to. I hope to do my part by the end of this month to donate, and it will help if you could too.

@@legendarygriffin lol chill. No I wasn’t having a dig at you. I was saying in general when people just start saying ‘blender is better than Maya’ and ‘Maya is better than blender’ just because that’s the only software they use so feel they need to defend it. Really immature and childish imo. And if you found my comment insulting, then nope, didn’t mean it that way, not sure which part you found insulting but hey ho 😊
