I love how animation is no longer how it look real or just the "Pixar" look. They are mixing 2D and 3D and making 3D look 2D and vice versa.... Spiderverse, Arcane, and Demon slayer are some amazing
@BeastRedAsh
@BeastRedAsh Жыл бұрын
Well a lot of anime nowadays uses 3D assets for characters on the background, or when camera zoomes out and character becomes small and too tacky to animate by hand, so it gets replaced by the model. But it's always so much in the eye, they never drop frames for their 3D animations whenever they're on the background. And you just see how those 3D models have stiff yet smooth (high frame count) animation, and that breaks the immersion so badly, I still don't understand why they do that with 3D, at least drop the frames, that would be sufficient for 3D models to blend in with the environment. But usually there is more, than just animation - 3D models get weird outlines and smooth shading and gradients in comparing to the rest of animation. Just agh.. Demon Slayer had the same issues, that pulled rug from under the feet whenever 3D was used on the screen. As said in the video - whenever 3D models are used for SOLID objects such as vehicles, buildings, etc. - it looks very good and helps out a lot in animation. But for god's sake, why they can't just polish the background characters

Hey Corridor! I worked on The Bad Guys as well - The one and only, Ravi Kamble is the animator who animated Snake playing the guitar by the way. They only asked for like 1 pose of Snake playing, and he went ABOVE AND BEYOND animating a super cool 15 or 20 second loop that they then sprinkled throughout the whole dance scene. Go Ravi!

The movie got 9 awards, beat toy story 4, tied frozen 2, made millions in a really short time, compensated it's production cost in just a month, so, it's well known, had a lot of recognition and awards, it's not because it exploded like a marvel movie that it didn't have recognition

The first Brother Bear had a scene where the main characters were on the edge of a cliff while the 'camera' spun around them in an aerial arc. It was a fairly short scene, but I believe at the time it was supposed to be one of Disney's last all 2D animated works, so the rumour I heard was it was intended as a last 'showing what they can do kind of scene with a whole heap of manual perspective work. I would love to know if it was true or not. I love hearing stories of creators taking on challenges because they are hard.

There was an Ed, Edd and Eddy episode where they start playing with the physics of the world, and did some really weird perspective stuff I remember. I can't remember if it was the same episode or not, but there was a moment where Ed yanks the entire plumbing system out of a house in one big chunk, and it was enough to make my mother passing through the room mutter 'Jesus christ' in awe/horror under her breath, which just heightened the scene for me :P
@hannahhgl
@hannahhgl 2 жыл бұрын
I think when Ed yanks the pipe out its a different episode. I remember the physics episode, Eddie takes a bite out if the sun and turns it into a quarter moon. Then there's this endless black hole Eddie falls down into for a little. All the while Double D is having the time of his life. The episode is either in season 1 or 2
@MDkilgore
@MDkilgore 2 жыл бұрын
The episode where Ed yanks the pipes/plumbing system is the one that Eddy transforms the house to a sauna? Something like that. In that perspective episode, Ed removes the whole sewer "pipe" at the end if I'm not mistaken, while being chased 😆. They also remove the outline from Johnny, making him turn into liquid; grabbed the sun as it were a cookie, turning it into a moon after a bite etc. etc.

I watched _The Bad Guys_ back in April and it's by far one of DreamWorks best animated films since the How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda films. Everything from the story, the voice cast (Sam Rockwell, Awkwafina, Zazie Beetz, Anthony Ramos, Richard Aodade, etc.), the comedy were phenomenal but it's the animation for _The Bad Guys_ that impressed me the most, as it's vastly different than the CG animation seen in the previous DreamWorks animated films (e.g. Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar) considering that the titular characters, the supporting cast including the humans gives off a Hand Drawn Cel-Shaded look similar to the animation seen in Disney's _Paperman_ and _Feast_ and especially Sony Pictures Animation's _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,_ which the filmmakers did admit the film was a huge inspiration for the animation. I also got a lot of _Lupin the 3rd_ and _Dragon Ball_ vibes for the character designs, especially from the Chief. Even the same can be said for the upcoming _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ as the visual style is giving off a 2D/3D visual style so I'm excited on the future direction DreamWorks Animation is heading.

3:35 "Deep Canvas" was used for Treasure Planet, but was created originally for Tarzan, and it is one of my favorite integration of 3D while keeping the 2D drawn styling intact. My favorite film and is the movie of my childhood that I grew up with of this styling of mixing 2D with 3D animation is Titan A.E., which my dad showed me and I'm grateful he knew about that movie because it unfortunately didn't perform well because it was overshadowed by bigger titles. Sort-of forgotten movie.

I mean if you want to talk impressive kid's shows then The Amazing World of Gumball is always a winner. Of course that's a pretty common suggestion I would think, so maybe try the guest animation episodes of adventure time. "A Glitch is a Glitch" is a cgi episode and it's not groundbreaking but it's cool how they translated the characters. "Beyond the Grotto" is lively and distinct 2d animation. "Bad Jubies" is stop motion with this sort of felt material? gives the whole episode a warm and fuzzy vibe which fits the story. "Food chain" is the last of the guest animated episodes I can think of (there might be a few more idk) and it's also 2d but has so many crazy perspectives and great shading. Finally, "King worm" is in the classic adventure time style, but it's incredibly trippy and bonkers the whole way through, they really take advantage of the idea that the characters are in a dream and allow darn near anything to happen. if you only have time to go through one of these, a personal favorite of mine is Food chain. it's downright beautiful at times and as a bonus the episode is beyond hilarious imho. sorry for the novel I just love kids cartoons :Y

@Duecenage
@Duecenage 2 жыл бұрын
@@FablestoneSeries Yeah, we would sometimes make 2 rigs, a pure spline and a pure IK rig depending on what our needs were. Hybrid ones are more common these days cause we've gotten really good with making IK/FK switchers. The best ones I've worked with were on cartoonier shows with less textures. I could fake my own IK using constrains can got some really night "pulling taut" animation. A more recent rig has been pretty good, I needed to change my way of thinking on how to use it from my normal methods, but it at least does what I want it to do, which is the most anyone can ask for, haha!! As for knots, yeah, we would probably cheat those off screen, or maybe use shapes to go from a loose knot to a tight not.

In the UK we seem to have some amazing animated TV specials at Christmas, adapted from popular books. There used to be a few Raymond Briggs stories, most notably the Snowman, which still looks beautiful. There's been plenty of Julia Donaldson stories captured in CG, that keeps the illustrated style: The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom etc. In 2016 there was a gorgeous 2-part version of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes, the CG still looks great. And I think last year there was a 2D version of the Quentin Blake book Clown which managed to animate Blake's iconic illustrations.

I'd love to see Animators React to some of the early episodes of VeggieTales. Small studio with a small budget doing 3D animation in the mid-90s (the first few came out before Toy Story).
