Saw Suede in Philadelphia on this tour & got to meet them backstage. It was a fantastic show even though it was sparsely attended in winter and was one of Richard's very first shows. Impressive! And nice guys too. They'd just made one of my favorite albums of all time!

Together with the Pet Shop Boys' Introspective, which was also released on October 10, this album is my all-time favorite. If they traded songs with their B-Sides from that era, Dog Man Star would be even better.

Hmm I wouldn't replace any of the songs on dog man star I don't think

@racephase nooooo! No lol I can see what ya mean feel like black or blue is probably the least liked song on there I really like it though for some reason.

So true, what Brett says about Still Life being ruined by the massively over-blown 'widescreen epic' / Western nonsense. The acoustic version on the 'Naked City' clip has ten times the power. But hey, all part of the learning process of course. I'm surprised there's so little talk about 'The Two of Us' - easily my favourite track on 'DMS' and the most intriguing as well as elegant song on the album.

This Hollywood Life and The Asphalt World are my least favourite songs on DMS, but still good. Interesting how Brett saw Asphalt as an anchor to the album. Its atmospheric, powerful and good lyrics, but musically I find it drags a bit. The Power, Heroine, Still Life, The Wild Ones and The Two of Us are all absolutely brilliant in terms of musicality. I also think the granduer of the orchestra on Still Life makes the album unique in the context of the album and the time. Overall, though, it's a rare album for me in that I still play the album without skipping tracks.

Not as interesting as the 2011 interview with Brett and Bernard about DMS. The interviewer was the problem, she seemed intent on getting them to say something controversial.

I disagree. The interviewer had to ask about the tension that existed making the record, and the way she went about it didn’t feel in any way sensationalist. The tension that led to one of its members ultimately leaving isn’t going to be ignored, nor should it be. Brett and Mat may be uncomfortable answering questions regarding it, especially with the amount of time since passed, but that’s tough. It’s a key part of the backdrop to making the album, and the band’s history…
