The tools that worked the best were, the Dewalt Multitool that cut the skin, Bosch hammer drill removed most of the wood and a small electric chainsaw.

Hi , great videos on replacing the transom. I have a 13 ft. Whaler that's pulling away at the transom but not that bad. The transom seems to be solid still. I know that's where the deck and hull are put together. On Continuous Wave they refer to it as the green line or "The Weld". I was wondering if you had any idea on fixing it where it's coming apart possibly using West System 610 or should it be wrapped over like you guys did after you replaced the transom ? Any help would be appreciated very much. Thanks

Thanks! Another tool I want to mention that worked well was the 1/2" belt sander, got that at harbor freight $32.00 it sells for $39.00.. *Before making a purchase always do a google search for harbor Freight 20% coupon, you can save $$$$

Great video! I do have a question. Why only cut the "engine" (middle) part of the transom, were the left and right sides of the transom not also rotten? Just wondering. I am so jealous, it's been my dream to restore a 15'.

The center part that was replaced was the only area that contained the wood (rotted). the two side sections are foam and structurally sound. Thank you for the comments, really appreciate it. The videos are really for motivation and to give other whaler owners some ideas on how they might want to repair their boat.

Dumb question, would there be any reason a person could not have cleaned off the old wood from the skin and reused it?
@spinfish14342 жыл бұрын
The wood was Saturated with Water, moisture, similar to a sponge. It’s lost strength. The bigger problem, nothing will adhere to wet, damp wood… The goal of the build was to greatly improve strength with modern materials that won’t absorb water/moisture. Especially maxing out the Hull with a 70hp four stroke. No short cuts just improvements.

@@spinfish1434 Sorry, I meant the outer fiberglass skin, clean inside face to bare glass and reuse.
@spinfish14342 жыл бұрын
@@howiemoth3847 Yes that’s exactly what we did, you can see us do that in the video. We contemplated not using it because it’s only chopped strand mat. Not really that strong but we did use plenty of 1708, much stronger then original factory.

@@spinfish1434 Sorry just saw the answer about how many layers you used over the new core and assumed. Will watch the rest of your vids. before I comment. You may enjoy this > kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3bcmnqaZd-HkKs
