Those fender extension filler pieces on the Cadillac between the taillights and fenders are notorious for breaking apart. They either break into pieces or shrink and swell with temperature changes making the paint fail on them, plus they were made from urethane that was supposed to flex and absorb the shock of the bumper hitting something at low speeds so the fenders wouldn't be damaged. It was common to see those cars in later years driving around with them missing because people needed to get them replaced.
