thanks ken. love this scent. don't care who else uses it. lately I've been using shaving oil. a light layer of shaving cream and a quality puck soap, this is my 3 layer shave. i don't think a man needs all this. just works for me.

Thank you for the sort of shout out regarding the ShaveMac. It's always great to watch it perform flawlessly year after year. I agree completely that the Black Beauty needs to reenter you rotation post haste. The choice of Nivea cream was well planned. Its neutral scent lends itself well in shaves that are designed to feature a particular cologne. Not to mention the cream's performance was its usual, and reliable greatness. I imagine we'll be seeing it utilized frequently as long as there are a plethora of classic colognes. Either to wax nostalgic, or show the new generation what they missed, and should experience.Outstanding job, Ken! I should know what I'm talking about, because after all, I'm Someone. I vaguely remember that theatre. My folks took me there once or twice. I grew up near Angel Stadium so I always went to the Century Cinedome off Chapman. Sadly, the Cinedome long gone too. Another great video.

I'm the same way Ken , i had Polo Blue , but I have the Stirling Green AS (Polo Green knock off) . There are a lot of great colognes out there from the past , I loved Cool Water when it came out and still do . Fahrenheit was good , Eternity , Aramis from the late 70s , plus there was another I liked I can't recall the name , Georgio Amani something , something about it reminded me of a Crown Royal bottle as I recall . Paul Sebastian's still great and STRONG even though it's been bought by EA Fragrances and they usually ruin fragances. Giorgio for Men by Giorgio of Beverly Hills still retains most of the original DNA but isn't as strong. Halston Catalyst was a terrific fragance. EA bought it and cheapened it thought it was still great smelling. It looks like they recently discontinued it. Joop Homme is still strong and great and the aftershave is terrific (includes witch hazel). Quorum and Halston Z-14 gift sets including aftershave lotion can be had for under $15.

Great video as always , Mr Kensurfs. I shaved yesterday as well, with a Muhle R89 with a Gillette Platinum blade in it and it was a beautiful shave! Very nice. By the way-I have a recommendation to make : Jack Dean shaving soap. Very good. Similar to Proraso green somewhat but without the eye-watering menthol (or a lesser concentration, not sure-still has a slight cooling efect).

Very fine pick with the 1978 original formula of the classic scent Polo. From what I understand is Warner version is the very 1st formula. I just bought a few bottles of ebay of the vintage version and the new reformulated version that actually smells nothing like the original

Love the classics shaves you're doing. Hope you bent over backward to say yes, dear, that is so lovely what you picked out! I've personally had some awesome shaves this week to test blades and Journal my shaves. I even finally tackled my Bakelite Slant Open Comb and love it. Never had a better shave yet! Not one bit of bloodletting at all and it was comfortable. That razor makes you remember how important light feathery touches are. Saw Dunkirk was a little disapponted in it. The Wilkinson Sword Blade is my next blade to test tomorrow.

As Matt from Razor Emporium mentioned in one of his videos, that the only one called Black Beauty is exactly that one that you used for this video, with the plastic adjustment plate. The others with the metal plates, both short and long handles, are simply called Super 84 or Super 109 adjustable, depending on the length of the handle (84 or 109 mm). I have a Black Beauty exactly like yours (Y2) and a 1972 (S1) short handle Super 84, but only shaved with the short handle a couple times, and it was a great shave always. I used setting 2 though. For today's shave, I'll use the Black Beauty. I have a 3-day growth, so I'm thinking about bringing it up to setting 4, at least for the first pass. Let's see how it goes.

Reporting back after my shave, it was good, although I think I should try a sharper blade the next time I have a 3-day growth since I didn't feel​ like it was cutting good, even at setting 4. The razor felt really comfortable, though. The most comfortable of all my razors by far. I really dig the long handles. Feel more secure in my hand.

@@kensurfs i received a decant of the vintage stuff today, and now I remember the smell. It takes me back to my college days in the late 80's. At the time, I never liked it and figured it was a type of cologne that chemistry wise went bad on just about everybody that wore it. I didn't know it was polo. But comparing the vintage to the reformulation, I like the reformulation better. It's more mellow, but just as pungent and rich as the original.

That's from Ralph Lauren. I bought a Safari 4 oz aftershave/edt gift set the year it was introduced (1992) and still have about 80% left of each bottle. It's one of the most classy fragrances the house ever produced. I only wear it now on special occasions. Unfortunately, like all the classics, it's been reformulated due to either IFRA regulation or US restrictions on certain ingredients and supposedly a shell of it's former self. I'll paraphrase this review on Fragrantica from RussianGY: www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Ralph-Lauren/Safari-for-Men-896.html *" A couple of years ago I barely could hold an excitement and joy when buying bottle from fancy department in local mall. And... what a disappointment. Yeah, I sorta recognized the aroma, but something was missing, and there’s no longevity AT ALL."* The original Polo (I bought it when it was the only POLO and didn't need to be called Polo Green) was a beautiful scent. The current version is so bad that a box of Dramamine should be given with it in a gift set. How anyone at Lauren ok'ed the production of the current version is beyond my comprehension.
