I was 18 then, and recall most of the TV ads. I used to go to a local Ben Franklin store. They were like dimestores, no clothes or food sold there. I miss those years of young adulthood. (Smile)

I graduated from high school during 1979, and I recall many of these ads. Sometimes it seems like 100 years ago, and other times like yesterday.

The music in that Miami Beach ad from 3:35 - 4:05 : would anyone know from which production music library this was (most likely British), what was the title and who wrote it? Edited a tad differently, it was (as I mentioned some nine years ago, if you look at the comments below) used on one of the "WCBS-TV Celebrates New York" promos that debuted around the 1971-72 season, filmed in and around some playgrounds with basketball courts.

DeWolfe, I think. I've passed this one by on a music search... can't believe it's THAT old... BTW, never noticed they said in that spot "Where you can see a red man..."

looking for inspiration for a screenplay i'm witting that takes place in 1979. it's going to be a psychological sci-fi thriller based around late 70's culture and technology. this little compilation is great to get in the feel of 1970s!

The music heard over the Miami Beach ad was the same as used on one of the "WCBS-TV Celebrates New York" promos in the early 1970's.

Voiceover on Tums commercial: Jackson Beck. He was a radio actor and cartoon voice artist for the Fleischer (later Famous) Studios, where he narrated the Fleischer "Superman" cartoons, and voiced Bluto in the Fleischer/Famous "Popeye" cartoons.

Another big difference between then and now. Many commercials had jingles, often the entire length of the spot, and were most importantly original. Now we have recording artists ruining their own work by whoring it out for use in ads, since the ad agencies can't come up with anything on their own as far as music goes.

People didn't care whether it was racist or not back then....all they cared for was that they were getting roast beef dishes for $1.95-$2.95.
