Classic Concentration Episode (August 1991)

Anyone else remember Concentration? I used to watch the Australian version every day after school during my visit to the country, but there was a revival called "Classic Concentration" that aired from 1987 to 1991 with Alex Trebek hosting (all the while hosting Jeopardy! as well). Reruns went on for a few years after the final episode, so one of them happened to be recorded on one of my grandmother's tapes, dated July 1992. Enjoy the old novelty prizes and set design!

I used to watch this show as a kid (when not in school). Classic Concentration was highly underrated in my opinion. Wish it stuck around into the late 90s. R.I.P. Alex Trebek

For the 1st puzzle it's interesting how the Soviet Union was mentioned, especially since the country itself was dissolving in real-time as this episode aired. :-o Been binge-watching of bunch of these 'Classic Concentration' episodes this week, good times for sure. :-)

It’s a shame he lost. He had a lot of good prizes on his column only to be beat by Emily. And in the 2nd game, she had a lot of good prizes only to lose in that game.

I got tired of the hype between and during puzzles. Too many gifts was a problem, but there wasn't enough game in it. Honestly, I was really excited when Alex took Jeopardy on shortly after this show.

Agreed. Don should've had a chance when the entire puzzle was shown before the signalling buttons. Although by the look in his face, I don't think he knew the puzzle at the time.

@@jaysmith651 Not sure why the producers didn't tell Alex about that during the commercial break. Normally when the entire puzzle is already revealed, if one contestant guesses the puzzle wrongly, the opponent gets a free guess.

This is a rerun from SUmmer 1991, as from Oct 1991-Summer 1992 NBC was airing the 1990-91 season of episodes as rerun. From Summer 1992-December 1993 NBC was airing the earlier episodes from 1987-88 in reruns.

I believe Art was the substitute announcer for a short period in July 1991, not sure how long exactly, but I do know he did announce the July 17th 1991 episode (Jeff vs. Tyler - I had the episode once but I lost it, sorry). By August 2nd 1991 (the Polly vs. Jamie episode), Gene was the announcer again. This episode that you see above is from July 8th 1991, given the cars in the bonus round. Unless I'm mistaken, I'm estimating that Art James may have taken over either the following week if not the week after.

The show ended production in 91 but reruns continued on the network till the end of 93 then it wasn’t reran at all till Buzzr got it a couple years ago

By the way, this isn't August 1991. Based on the cars that are featured (Excel, Justy, Civic, Mirage, Protege, Metro, Sundance, Lemans), this is most probably from the week of June 28th-July 9th 1991, as can be seen on the official wiki (markgoodson.fandom.com/wiki/Classic_Concentration/Episode_Guide/Spring_1991). I am guessing it's most probably July 8th 1991, as we are aware contextually that Emily and Don each won a game in the previous episode, and I do recall (since I followed all the episodes from that period when they aired in my area) that in the previous episode before that there was an undefeated champion who won a Plymouth Sundance at the last minute.

When I first watched Classic Concentration, it was from the June 1991 edition so I didn't know anything about the openin' of the two pieces that was so apparent in the 1987-1988 era.

@davidwilson I would have suggested ordering from FremantleMedia UK (fremantlemedia.com), but it seems that they no longer own the rights to Concentration as of 2017 - at least that is what their sales representative told me via email. I also want to get at least three more 1991 episodes of Classic Concentration from them, but I can't anymore. My best bet is to take the long-waiting approach - i.e. wait for someone out there who happens to have any further episodes to post them here. That's what I'm doing now :(

Cadillac Cimarron was offered in 1987 once or twice, worth around $16K, low end for a Cimarron at the time. They also offered a Yugo,. and I think they were the only game show to offer that much unliked car.
