Cuz I landed a +20Lb snapper off the rocks about 1am in a channel about 1.5m shallow lol on a out going tide, 20m from the shore... earlier that day my cuz asks if I was going fishing tonight, "yeah cuz are you coming" he reckons "yeah my cuz, what are we using for bait" I told him PAUA strips with the Hua tied to it. He laughed at me and didn't want to come fishing anymore. 2:30am I arrived home, cleaned my fish then woke him up, he had the cheek to ask if I caught anything, just a little one cuz look in the fridge. The look on his face "priceless". Moral of the story is Snapper love paua just as much as we do cuzzy.

Expertly cooked. Don't feel guilty about using cream though. Make it double cream with butter, no milk or corn starch. Will thicken nicely!!!

And what happens to kai that's seized though? Does it go back to the people or get dumped?

It gets frozen until the court case as evidence. If it is still edible it gets donated.

Two years ago I crossed a normal police check point That was fine Except immediately the police was done The fisheries guy with the cop ask Do you have paua in your vehicle I replied Do I look like I've been diving with cow shit on my arms and clothes I just finished milking He then instruct me to pull over up further where to be searched I asked if they supposed to have search warrant Apparently they say it's not required During the search I counted 17 cars go passed All who were pakeha So I was absolutely profiled being Maori I had to say You know, pakeha collect Paua just as much yet they actually don't get stopped My question is Paua that are confiscated Were do they end up Anyways they found nothing in my car

Thanks for the feedback. We like to think things like this don't happen, but they do. I think poachers should get the book thrown at them whatever culture they are. I think confiscated paua are sometimes returned alive or if needed frozen for evidence.
