I'm glad you weren't spoiled during the live chat. As soon as you said you wanted to revisit Peladon, I half expected someone to mention it. Well done Marie-Clare fans for your restraint.

Heh, the Third Doctor taking Sarah-Jane to see a planet he'd first visited with Jo reminds me a little bit of when the Tenth Doctor took Martha to New Earth after having first been there with Rose, yes? Hope you enjoy the rest of the story, and be sure to stay safe in the meantime... (Oh, and as for the fact that you're clearly still suffering from Cybermen-withdrawal symptoms, at least it means that you'll probably appreciate them all the more if, as and when they do finally show up again...no further comment as to when that might or might not happen though, yes...?!).

"How is she supposed to meet a man?" They don't seem to have any shortage of them! She's the first and only female from Peladon we've seen! I'm more wondering where her dad finally met a woman!?

"It's another rotten, gloomy old tunnel." Sarah Jane sums up about 15% of classic Who stories. You're right, it's rare that the Doctor ever returns to a previously visited planet. The actress playing the queen is Nina Thomas, don't know where else you might have seen her, this was her only role in Doctor Who.

Really like the little moment between Alpha Centauri and Sarah Jane, where Centauri's feelings are hurt by Sarah's reaction to him. Not so crazy about the badger hairdos of the mining class. Wonder if that was just a fad on Peladon at the time like the beehive hairdo was on Earth?

I read somewhere that lipreading The Doctor when Aggedor appears at the end gives the line 'What the bloody hell is it?' Even though you can clearly hear him say 'What the blazes is it?', how fun would that have been lol.

Do you remember last Sunday's livestream and I asked you: "If there had to be a sequel to one Pertwee episode, which one would you like it to be?" Just saying. You said Curse of Peladon. Here it is! :)

Monster of Peladon is one of my favourites. The Monster of Peladon came about because The Curse of Peladon had proved popular with viewers and outgoing producer and script editor Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks decided to commission Brian Hayles to write a follow-up story. Originally, King Peladon was going to return, but instead, Brian Hayles changed it to his daughter and heiress Queen Thalira. During production, Tom Baker was announced as The 4th Doctor. I loved Curse of Peladon because it was a good story, it had a good cast of aliens and a good performance by David Troughton.

Hats off (and hairpieces on) to Rex Robinson here, as Gebek - formerly the baffled Dr Tyler in 'The Three Doctors' - and the other returnees to the show playing miners, for taking their parts seriously while looking like badgers. You wonder if that's something to do with how shaggy miners might have looked to certain people at that time - but we'll come back to that...

In the spirit of programs being in line with current events, this story coincided with Britain's entry into the European Union in the early 1970s.

"Who's she? Why does she look familiar?" First time I watched this, I thought 'er majesty was Princess Jo for a few seconds. Not after a proper look, obviously. BTW, I just looked up the title on Wiki to remind myself of how long or short it is and saw this little factoid "The mineral was named Trisilicate because Barry Letts saw it listed on the back of a tube of Boots Toothpaste as one of the ingredients." I think it's safe enough to tell you that.

Apart from looking pretty freaky, Vega Nexos (occasional Dalek operator Gerald Taylor) was part of a small number of one-off characters that had an afterlife in merchandise - despite only appearing once and being killed off almost immediately. It puts me in mind of the tie-ins that accompanied the theatrical release of 'Star Trek - The Motion Picture' in 1979. One of the promotional products was as line of largely uninteresting ice lollies whose chief selling point was that you got a 'collect-em-all' style character card inside the packaging. With luck you might get Commander Willard Decker, or even Mr Spock, but invariably you'd end up with some exotic alien being who, it turned out, had almost no part in the film and remains obscure even with the benefit of frame-by-frame scanning on your Blu-ray edition.

Picture quality looks fine to me, and I am sure you will get used to the new camera angle, if your new laptop does not appear first! Glad to see that you are happy to be back on Peladon - this is not a very well-regarded story among fans, so it will be interesting to find out what you make of it. Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks had enjoyed the first Peladon story, and so asked Brian Hayles to write a sequel, though Hayles ended up struggling to produce a satisfactory final draft and Dicks ultimately finished the story himself. In order to make the story feel as much like The Curse of Peladon as possible, Letts ensured that the same director and set designer were used. We also get a political commentary again - in Curse the subtext was Britain joining the EEC, in this one it is the industrial strife that was engulfing Britain at the time. When the story was made, in January and February 1974, the miners were on strike again and the country was in the midst of the Three-Day Week, which had only just ended when this episode was first broadcast on 23 March. Viewers at the time would have seen a clear parallel to current events, though I am sure they would also have questioned the creative decision to make the Peladon miners look like badgers...

It's never occurred to me before, but badgers are known for digging holes. I wonder if this is why they gave the miners badger hair?

When you said 'she looks familiar', my mind wandered a little and I created a story of my own, in which Jo is the queen of Peladon, but we don't know how she arrived there. The new camera is fine by me (it is not my decision to make!) but the colours seem a little more grey than usual. I am not sure how you would change that or even if it is something which might concern you, but knowledge is power as they say. Either way though it is not a huge issue and it doesn't affect my enjoyment of your reactions, which remain as lovely as always.

The peladon stories are set in the 38th century, the years 3700 and 3750 during the Galactic federation period, which lasted from 3040 to 3975.Then came the second earth empire.

As the first Peladon story was a metaphor for EU membership. This one was a metaphor for the contemporary mining disputes. This is why I really wanted a Peladon Brexit story.

The new camera looks just fine, so stop worrying.... Don’t forget the limits of the shows budget at the time means any opportunity they had to reuse sets and costumes was encouraged and embraced. They still do it a bit in new Who as well....

'The Monster of Peladon' does not have the best reputation amongst the party faithful. Before the show's Lazarus-like return in 2005 (an interregnum during which lad bibles such as Loaded would describe Dr Who fans as 'Anorak-clad Wankers' - so thanks for that), it was not unknown for publications to appear that satirized both the show and its adherents. It was easy to poke fun of a group of people who obsessively organized their book and video collections according to broadcast order, or who would claim to be perfectly ordinary people with a normal, healthy hobby... and then recite lines of dialogue from their favourite episodes in a funny voice! Notice was also taken of our uncanny ability to remember details (like this), such as production codes. 'An Unearthly Child', for example, was Story 'A' and the show continued through the alphabet until it restarted with 'AA' (which, I believe was 'The War Machines'), 'AAA', etc. This story, it was felt appropriate, turned out to be 'YYY - The Monster of Peladon'. So it doesn't require Suzie Dent to tell you what they felt about the following serial...

This is not a favourite with me. If Curse of Peladon is a masterpiece painting then Monster of Peladon is a paint by numbers picture in a colouring book. It has nice moments but it's a bit of a slog for me. Maybe I'll see new positives through your eyes as you watch it. :)

This is probably my least favourite in the series because of how bad it drags, there is a lot of padding. However my opinions of it might change since I've not rewatched it in prep for your reaction so who knows my opinion might change
