Too Old and Too Slow

Too Old and Too Slow

Күн бұрын

After a major rebuild following a crash at Silverstone, I take my Crossle 25F out on track. The day doesn't go as smoothly as I hoped but eventually I managed to get plenty of laps in.
I give an update on the rebuild and a run down on where I'm racing this year. If you are at a track, come along and come and say hello!
Please add your comments, tell me what content you want. Do you want to meet the rest of the team? More in car footage or is it just brilliant as it is?
Please like and subscribe to me channel, it makes a huge difference.
Huge thanks to the guys at Shaws Motorsport (www.shawsmotors...) for their hard work and dedication.
Come and join the Classic Formula Ford Club, the friendliest club in the paddock. us on track at www.classicfor...

Entertaining video. Seems like the chaps that worked on the car in the off season did a bit of sloppy work in missing an obvious bolt on that rear wheel. Sometimes there's nothing better than personally giving things a good inspection/bolt tightening yourself. If it's not too personal, it would be nice to see an invoice for the work that was done in the off season so people can see the what running costs/charges for these types of services.

Unfortunately the workshop wasn’t to blame, that was 100% my fault. I replaced the rear bearings a few months ago and there is one smallish bolt holding the hub on and I used a bolt that was a little too short. The guys who worked in the car didn’t touch the rear bearings. They fixed it at the track and it just proves that I’m no engineer. I really wanted the chassis blasted and re-coated because I was worried about corrosion, thankfully there wasn’t any to be found. I also wanted to get rid of any gremlins before the season started, I hate unreliability. I spent a few thousand pounds but it was absolutely worth it as I have a super reliable car. As for the true cost of racing a Formula Ford, it’s £1000 a weekend and that included fuel, entrance fees, tyres and money set aside for preventative maintenance.

@@toooldandtooslow Thanks for setting things straight and the the financial background. Did you see my reply to Grahame Burton's comment in your video of your Snetterton race? It might help your pace a bit...everybody's a critic.😜

Hi Richard, I've been watching your episodes religiously and appreciate what it takes to race at a competitive level. I have a history of flying(RAF) and motor racing Karting 100cc TKM and 125 gearboxes, same racecraft. So I can relate to everything in your episodes. I would like to come to one of your race meetings this 2022 if it's OK with you?. Very good Mate ! Mo

Hello Maurice, thanks for the message, it would be great to see you at a race, I’m off to Oulton Park to test on the 12 of August then to race the next day. I’ve had a long time away from the car, I missed Donnington because I managed to catch Covid again! I just hope I can find a bit more pace and confidence.

Hello Richard, Good to see you back on track. I see you've installed the VeloStak. I installed a set last year and think they are the first velocity stack that really work for a Weber 32/36. I never cared for the squared off intakes of these carbs. I think the idea of using golf ball type dimples to keep the air flow attached is brilliant. One idea I had was to use small brass tubes to run the long attaching screws through with small flat washers to support the stacks when tightening them. That way you don't pull the stacks up as you tighten them. I've rebuilt my engine over the last two months and have run one road course time trial weekend to break it in. I plan on taking the car to a dyno in a few weeks to see if I've gain any power. It use to show 95 HP at the wheels. I'd like to get near a 100. I'll check on you again soon. Good luck in 2022.

Great video Richard. Good luck to you this year. Your Crosslé looks very spiffy, as usual. Was the frame painted or powder coated?

Good to see you back. You inspired me to switch to single seaters after a lifetime of saloons and I love you're channel. And any chance of a plane vlog for something different? Have a great year.
