I remember getting that pad and being so happy the d-pad was connected in the middle. I first saw a ps1 display at toys r us and thought the thing wouldn't work and it was dumb because the d-pad was broken up and wasn't 1 solid bit. So, finding one of those at a thrift shop was a giant blessing for me as a kid.

I mysteriously found myself in possession of a PS1 and one of these controllers and could never figure out what it did because I didn’t come into possession of the cables for the console. This is very helpful.

I used to have one of these. One of the silicone pads for the buttons tore and we threw it out after trying to glue it. I wish I still had it so I could just fix it. :/

What's up with the D-Pad though? Is it better than the regular 4 way pad? What's your favorite D-pad to play ps1 shmups like Einhander and G-Darius?

I remember a control pad I used to have for the PS1 and it had a "turbo" and "slow" button on the back. Exactly where your fingers would comfortably go. This lead to either fingers locked in awkward positions or, even more irritatingly, activation of one of these two hell spawn. Pressing "slow" was fairly irritating as it would lock the pause menu on the screen. "But what did turbo do?" I hear you type. Well, have you ever thought that any game you were playing would be instantly improved by rendering it unplayable with the pause menu opening and closing every few milliseconds? It's clear that this controller did, and I did not. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo did not require any additional "turbo".

@MrChillZilla11 жыл бұрын
The reason that cant be done is because without the Analog Sticks it would be a pain in the ass to use directions that aren't basic up, down, left, and right, if it weren't circular with the + on top to guide you.
@Ghennesph11 жыл бұрын
Didn't Ascii get absorbed into Enterbrain?
@skylerhoxit77066 жыл бұрын
I love your channel. My only gripe is that by starting out each video title with “Classic Game Room -“ instead of putting it after the unique title giving an idea of what the video is about keeps me from watching a lot of your content due to not being able to get the idea just from the thumbnail.
@MrLormer2 жыл бұрын
in 2010s flashy and informative thumbnails werent the thing. plus i think Mark's done with gaming reviews so...

ASCII's hardware was eventually absorbed by SEGA, around the time of the Sega-Sammy merger. They went under SEGA Logistics Service, or SLS. During that time they release a number of peripherals, most popular are the Sega Saturn style controllers made for USB/PC/Mac and PS2 as well as other the "Virtua Stick" for PC and PS2. They possibly also made the Virtua Stick High Grade for PS3. They've stopped making peripherals since then, focusing on Amusement/Arcade machines.

@nathleflutiste8 жыл бұрын
I like the Xbox slim controller, feel so cool (and it reminds me the Dreamcast controller too, but with better stick, and slightly better dpad, even though I still prefer the feeling given by the dreamcast controller) +Schmidteren this is not old school porn music, this is smooth jazz damn it. A great style of Jazz that was twisted by those damn porn producers.

That's half right, see, ASCII itself still exists as "ASCII Media Works", but the majority of their IP's are now handled by Enterbrain, they mostly publish magazines and such now instead.
@tbb0336 жыл бұрын
Didn't they spin off game publishing into AGEtech?
