+videogameobsession Early Mega Drive games are AWESOME. Even tho I love every period of the Mega Drive library I have a soft spot for its early titles, they have something special, something essential, also the charm of 80s gaming... And yeah right from the start so many fantastic games! You mentioned several of my favorites but I'll add others ones like Space Harrier II, NewZealand Story (the only home port based on the Arcade protype!), After Burner II and Rambo III. Also some which I have to dig: Mystic Defender; Phantasy Star II and III and Sorcerian (said to be the best version of its era)... Oh man I love the Mega Drive/Genesis!

+Lavaduder Oh yeah Herzog Zwei too, Tecno Soft the first third party developper on Mega Drive and an awesome one at that! (and which made games only on Mega Drive bar Thunder Spirits on SNES which have been relegated to another developper and which is quite awful anyway)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Every serious Genesis fan knows this to be true. 89-91 was the golden era of Genesis gaming. Out of the 80+ games I own in my personal collection, 95% of those are from that era. The first two years were especially thrilling and YES, Eswat was a part of that.

I grew up on this game, and i still love it. It's not the best game ever made, but damn is it challenging and damn is it fun. This review just doesnt do it justice. Go play it for yourself with an open mind. Hell, it's better than it's prequel, the E-Swat arcade game.

I'm going to look for this one. as always I love new CGR videos, but I've noticed that whenever I find a game that's been reviewed or talked about online and they say you can find it cheap or a few dollars, the games price is jacked up to like $85 or something like that. usually at flea markets or video game stores.

Nah, ESWAT is all but mediocre. Especially in the graphics department. Plus it has good, responsive controls. Even some new ideas (at the time) were thrown in there like the platform you move to travel in the 2nd lvl or the lab escape which is overflowing with a deadly substance. That lvl was actually my favorite. And the fact that you play as a cop in the 1st two levels is not a bad thing. it rather gives the game diversity. the game is overall just another underappreciated classic. in a couple years the tunes of testers might change about this one. give it a shot, form your own opinion!

I have this on my 360 (via Sonoc's Ultimate Genesis Collection) and I find it pretty fun to play every once in a while. My seven-year-old nephew has also made it much further in the game than me, and I played both the arcade and genesis versions as a kid...

This honestly doesn't seem like a bad game by any stretch, from the footage, the jet pack seems somewhat creative for the time, and the shooting is solid, I'm gonna give this a go. Revenge of Shinobi is one of the very best side-scrollers from the era so it wasn't necessary to make the comparisons, just review the game for what it is.

I agree with Mark on this one, but it has very chill music. It reminds me of Rush 'n Attack on the NES. It works as a tough as nails 2D platform shooter. I am not a big fan of early genesis titles including Eswat, Kid Chameleon, and Shinobi. I did like Altered Beast and Golden Axe, tho.

I liked the SMS version of this game when I was young. I was a long time ago, so I don't know if it was all that good.

Ironically my biggest complaint was also the change from human to cyborg but I felt both sides were good I just wanted two games a long one that played like the police levels with bigger jumps and the slides and one where your the cyborg. I wouldn't want them in the same series I just liked both game play styles and felt they got sold short by being split in half.

the theme and looks of this game was awesome. I finished it but, boy was it tough! this is the kind of game that you don t finish many times, as it is so difficult, each session is just torture.... unlike great titles as streets of rage and golden axe. I d play it again with an invincible trick though. just to get the stress down, lol.

The game seems mediocre but the idea seems cool. The game advertises a badass cyborg body but makes you work for it. Then, when you have it the game really speeds up and is supposed to become more fun and dynamic. It'd be pretty easy to pull this off nowadays even if this were a first-person shooter.
