Classic Game Room - FIFA 96 for Sega Genesis review

Classic Game Room reviews FIFA 96 for Sega Genesis from EA Sports released in 1995. FIFA 96 from Electronic Arts is (by this time) an old school soccer / football video game with 2D style visuals. FIFA 96 is a very different game on the Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn with 3D style visuals, but the Sega Mega Drive version of FIFA 96 runs on the FIFA 95 engine and suffers from sub-par gameplay compared to its newer brethren. The crowds in this game look more lively than the robotic, shallow husks that count as "citizens" in InFamous: Second Son.

I remember me and my 2 older brothers we all worked and the FIFA games were games we went crazy over and would pool all our money together and buy it every year the new year would come out.I swear these games were way too much fun with my brothers and all our friends playing each other.Just Great games

I've got multiple versions of this game! as far as the 16 bit versions are concerned I thought that the Super Nintendo was better than this! the graphics the controls and the music/sound FX! the Snes version had commentry samples from the legend himself John Motson! now thats worth the purchase all by itself

The graphics in FIFA 96 are completely overhauled from the original (94) and 95 editions. I kinda prefer the original look; the players may be squat and blocky, but the animations are excellent. The movements in 96 are a bit janky and quirky. An, well, you can pick up all of these Genesis sports titles for a couple dollars, so they're easily to collect.

This one is great, but possibly the best soccer game for the Genesis is "International Superstar Soccer Deluxe". That one was amazing!

Have you played the early NHL games? They are great fun and cheap to pick up. You can go on Amazon or Ebay and find good copies.

There is a 32X version. Unfortunately, it was only released in Europe and, from what I heard, it's one of the rarest games for the system. The 32X version resembles more the Saturn and PS1 versions, so you might like it. And, coincidentally, there's a gameplay vid of it on the related videos/suggestions And the music is certainly awesome

Fifa 97 and Fifa 98 use the same engine too. I was amazed by Fifa 97 when i bought it due to the sheer amount of options. Including being able to create custom players and custom teams. But once you find the sweet spots to shoot from and always score it does become a little easy.

Memories! If I'm not wrong, this game would let you run like mad when the referee was about to show you a card and he could chase your for hours until finally catch you and show the damned card. I used that to annoy my adversaries. Maybe it was in FIFA94, though.

1 thing I still haven't managed with this game - how to pass the ball to the players you want... any time I try the ball just goes randomly and it doesn't seem you can control its direction - very irritiating to be honest

When me and my brother would play this for the SNES all we would do is break the other team's legs until they couldn't defend anymore. It is hard to stop my offense when all you can do is crawl around to field :D

Fifa 95 on the genesis is alot better... But! you should review sensible soccer, or championship soccer 94 for the sega cd!. Best 16 bit soccer game, and another awesome game to add to your sega cd collection

Fifa 97 was the worst together with 64...both slow,hard,scoring was near impossible,and 98 was a BIG step ahead,much easier and dynamic gameplay,you had a lot of teams to choose from,the best of the old series until 08 for PS3..
