Classic Game Room reviews the NINTENDO GAME BOY POCKET. The Gameboy Pocket does more than just fit in your pocket, it plays Game Boy games! Produced by Nintendo several years after the original, groundbreaking Nintendo Game Boy, the Game Boy Pocket is smaller, lighter, uses two AAA batteries and has a larger, better screen. Personally, I think there should be a Gameboy Classic Edition, and it should have these features: -Have the same saving features as the NES Classic Edition -Have a backlit screen while still having the games in black & white with green tinted coloring that the console is known for -Have the model be shaped after the Gameboy Pocket with all different kinds of colors (or get a special original model Gameboy version which costs more, but is a great collectors item) -Have wireless connectivity to other Gameboys for multiplayer & digital TVs to play the games on it with added color like it's a Super Gameboy -Have a rechargeable battery that can charge through a USB cable and these would be the games: 1. Tetris 2. Dr. Mario 3. Super Mario Land 4. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins 5. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 6. Pokemon Red/Blue (you will get one of these randomly) 7. Mario's Picross 8. Operation C 9. Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters 10. Final Fantatsy Adventure 11. Megaman V 12. Wave Race 13. Alleyway 14. Ninja Gaiden Shadow 15. Donkey Kong 94' 16. Donkey Kong Land 17. F-1 Race 18. the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening 19. Metroid II: the Return of Samus 20. Kid Dracula 21. Gargoyle's Quest 22. Tetris Attack 23. Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge 24. If you want black and white screen, but still want a backlight, you should go get a game boy light (the Japanese exclusive model). Games are not region locked.

The screen is frontlit. Also by holding left + b when starting a gb game on a gbc or newer, you can make the pallet b&w

Nice review! really covered that whole.. pocket thing. However, something i feel you should mention, does it use less AA batteries? and does it have a Mini-jack port, etc. not that I don't know already, I just feel it should have been included. Rock on!

The gameboy is absolutely indestrucible. I went into my pool and played with it underwater. The buttons stopped working after I got out but I let it dry and it was good to go again. Gameboy FTW!

Update for what was mentioned near the end of the video: I tested and can confirm that the Game Boy Advance SP DOES in fact fit in pockets (or at least the pockets of standard blue jeans, I haven't tested it with any other pockets).

Back when this first came out, I was really impressed with the Game Boy Pocket, partially because of its small size, but even more for the quality-boost to the screen. The OG Game Boy had horrendous ghosting, and it was often hard to see what you were doing even in full light. On this one, a more "black and white" contrast versus "green and dark green" made games so much easier to see. Like you said, if anyone wants the original Game Boy experience, this is the way to go.

There is also a Gameboy Light from Japan which is similar to Gameboy Pocket but takes two AA batteries and has a back-lit screen. But it pre-dated the GBA SP quite a bit.

The size difference between them is that the game boy pocket has a flat surface on the back while the game boy color has a more thicker rounder surface on the back. Also the gb color is a little bit taller than the pocket. About a few mm taller. And the gb color has a smaller screen as well.

see with the Game Boy original GameBoy pocket test there was room to put it in your pocket but it would have been such a tight fit and you would never forget it was in your pocket so it's not really that pocketable unless you have a back pocket

If you wanted to take the original game boy, game gear or game.com with you, you have options. For instance, larger looser fitting jeans often had larger and more accommodating pockets. Winter Jackets also have larger pockets. But of course if your clothing don't have pockets, don't despair. You can carry them in a book bag or backpack.
