Recorded in 2000, Classic Game Room reviews TONY HAWK PRO SKATER for the Sega Dreamcast... the FIRST one! Play as Tony Hawk or a number of other skateboarders in this awesome game from way back in the day. An incredible franchise that has been milked dry, when this game first came out it was unbelievable! You could do so much, so fast and have so much fun! Customize skateboards, jump over cars, pull of awesome tricks and land them for huge points. This review shows how excited the original CGR team was to play Tony Hawk back in the day and shows gameplay and footage of Tony Hawk Pro Skater and tricks being pulled off. Classic Game Room started reviewing video games in 1999 and is bigger than ever today. CGR is your self proclaimed source of retro gaming reviews and new releases. CGR is also the self proclaimed ruler of Saturn. We rule. Numerous Tony Hawk skating sequels have been released since this game came out on other consoles like Xbox and PS2. TH1 was also released on the Playstation 1 and Nintendo 64. Are there new upcoming Tony Hawk Pro Skater games in development set to be released in the future for Wii, 360 or PS3? By the way, in this game you collect video tapes... how dated is that? You may as well be collecting Edison cylinders.

+punkDTH Those are called texture warping and it was 1994 hardware. PS1 had more music tracks than the N64 and had FMV like the Dreamcast version.

I got the game yesterday but there's something that worries me a bit when I play. Whenever you're outdoors with bright skies, the screen seems to flicker on those parts. Have you ever had this problem? I'm in the UK so it's the Pal version, but I'm not sure if this applies to all Pal versions.

The first Tony Hawk Pro skater was sick. I had it for the PSX. Great soundtrack too. Graphics are sweet on the DC. The mall was my favorite level. What a thrill. School was good too. Downhill was so tough. Chainsaws lol

Aww...brings back so many memories! I remember the day I got this for my birthday I recieved 2 copies of it because I told like every member of my family I wanted it. I ended up getting a copy of it from my grandparents and parents. haha. this game was amazing. I've probably spent more than 500 hours on this game..haha. GOOD STUFF...although nowadays, sadly, this series has been polluted with all sorts of stupid gimmicks. The last Tony Hawk I bought was THPS3.

It's hard for me to play this game now. There isn't that balance meter when your grinding on stuff. Also, on the 64 version, you use the C buttons instead of the a b which feels awkward at 1st. Also The 64 version had 2 songs removed.

DAMN(!) this brings back memories. Even if you weren't a skateboarder you loved this. It was major fun fer hours on end. I never played the Dreamcast version though. IMO, TH3 was the best.

The Dreamcast didn't use a normal CD. It used GD-ROMs. That was a proprietary format that held almost double the data of a normal CD.

I wonder if Dave would have said had known there'd be half a billion sequels released back then? :D (well apart from this year, no Tony Hawk as Skate! showed the world how archaic the series was getting) But the original is my favourite of the whole series, even though I only had a pirate copy that was half finished as a kid, literally some levels were half-finished, you'd skating along and notice the world has ended as you fall for all eternity into the void!!!

i had a dreamcast in my dorm room and had this game. My friend and I played countless hours, I have yet to meet anyone that could grind the entire half of the schoolyard and get over a million points doing it. No bragging here but we were ridiculous, partly because we could neverfind anyone who could top our scores. Then THPS 2 was released and everone was able to break a million easily.

The Sega Dreamcast is actually better in my opinion. It's way ahead of its time. It even made online gaming possible. In fact, people who've ever owned a Dreamcast around 2000 or 2001 are probably a lot happier with it than to those who've owned a PlayStation 2. If you're a Sega fan, you would have a love and hate relationship with Sony since they abolished Sega from making consoles years ago. But that's just my opinion; nothing personal I guess.

The Dreamcast is the only Sega console I ever owned. It was amazing how you could browse the Internet and plug in a keyboard too! It took them until 2000 to get SegaNet up and running and release online multiplayer games, but it was worth the wait. NFL 2K1 and NBA 2K1 online multiplayer were crazy at the time even though there was a ton of lag. 4x4 Evolution is still my favorite off-road racing game. I remember you could play online against PC and Macintosh players! No other game had that! I cried when my Sega Dreamcast died around May 2002. I think the power supply was shot at that point. I even had the expensive imported VGA Box from Japan that let you connect to a computer monitor which made everything look extra sharp. I would love to own another Sega Dreamcast or at least an emulator.

BlueComet001 That's the problem I had with Sega fans. They are so bitter on Playstaion consoles. They think its the Playstation fault for Sega stop making consoles when it was clearly Sega's fault. Sega should have never released the Sega CD and 32x and only focus on the Saturn. They will still be in competition, today. Even if the Playstation consoles came out, they will still compete.

In all fairness it wasn't developed for the Sega Dreamcast. This was just a simple port of a 32-bit Sony PlayStation game like Fighting Force 2, WWF Attitude, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver or Grand Theft Auto 2. You won't find anything groundbreaking in a simple port like one of these games that was only intended to be played on the 32-bit PlayStation.

gedaman the textures and resolutions are certainly better in the the Dreamcast port compared to the PS1. It doesn't have that wierd twitchy textures that are common in PS1 games and it supports 480p with the VGA. Best version of THPS1 is the oXbox version that has both 1 and 2 on the same disc. It was a launch game I picked up with my launch oXbox

***** it was pretty new during the late 90's. However, keep in mind that this version does run smoother than PS1, just not 60 (which was uncommon but not impossible)

x.b.l.a have released an hd version of this & it is by far the best T.Hawk game I've ever played.It looks & plays alot better than this version(which it should,since the 360 has alot more power)I loved this game on Dreamcast,it was amazing for the time!
