This is the LAST original Classic Game Room review recorded from season 1 in 2000. This swan song from the original CGR team is a review of the tremendous TOKYO XTREME RACER 2 for the Sega Dreamcast, the sequel to Tokyo Extreme Racer 1. Modifiy your cars and race them on the highway against competing gangs! Excellent gameplay, addictive features and mesmerizing action made this game one of the more unique racers on the Dreamcast. It was an improvement from Tokyo Xtreme Racing 1 with more cars, a bigger highway system and more customizable options. The footage shows the amount of fun we had and mayhem that we caused while tearing around the freeways in Los Angeles in our Nissan Skyline and Acura NSX (even though the cars weren't really called that in the game)). Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 is a must have for fans of the Sega Dreamcast looking for a fun and exciting driving game that doesn't quite fit the mold of games like Ferrari F355 Challenge or Test Drive Le Mans. If you like import tuners and modifying your car with huge mufflers, wings and body moldings... and then going out on gang war crusades against lame ass games in Tokyo (or LA, whatever) then this game is for you! Classic Game Room brings you the best in video game reviews from all kings of game systems and arcade classics, past and present!

@therealjuralumin3416
@therealjuralumin3416 4 жыл бұрын
@@KrGsMrNKusinagi0 Import Tuner Challenge is a direct sequel to the Dreamcast and PS2 games, same developer! Same goes for the Japanese exclusive Wangan Midnight game on PS3, they’re all developed by Genki. I don't know why you don't like Import Tuner Challenge, it’s Tokyo Xtreme racer in HD with more highway to explore, and crazy amounts of customisation. If you want more Tokyo Xtreme Racer it’s exactly that. Wangan Midnight on the PS3 is also amazing, but completely different, it’s a licensed tie-in with the Manga, and lacks the customisation and progression of TXR, instead you play through the Manga chapter by chapter, and there’s a heavy emphasis on collecting cards that improve your cars performance instead of earning credits and modifying them. If you haven’t read the Manga then you’re not gonna get much out of it, that’s why I don't recommend to people.

+Broncofivepointslow I know this comment was posted quite some time ago but I was wondering, is this game essentially the same as Zero for the PS2 or are they different? I have the PS2 game but I was thinking of getting a copy of this game to play since I scratched Zero
@dhoffnun
@dhoffnun 8 жыл бұрын
***** They are extremely similar, but not exactly the same. The road course is the same, the game format is the same, many of the cars are the same - but the menus, some of the rivals / teams, and the rendering engine are all different. The graphical style is again very similar, but I actually like the look and feel of the game better on Dreamcast. There are a few visual effects that the PS2 can pull off that the Dreamcast can't, and I believe the PS2 game has a few more rivals, but as a gaming experience, I'd probably recommend this one slightly above Zero.

hey guys im looking for a racing game, my mom bought for my birthday when i was 6-7 years old, now im 16. but anyway i think its a japanese racing game but im not sure, i remember the intro of the game had a red toyota supra, it had decals, and it was racing under the sunset and passing by pink trees(thats why i asume its a japanese racing game), now the game itself i only remember you can race people on this car lot which bosses, and people would show up when you clicked on a bubble colored icon which represented how hard they were(example like, green, white). the game had racing sponsored cars as well, and i remember the first boss you would race, he had a black acura 2 door sports car. please reply if you know a racing game of that description or have a idea of it, i have been searching for years for this game, please don't hessitate to ask.

I also had another question I was wanting to ask you Mark, back to the time I asked what video cables you use to record CGRHD. I know you mentioned you love S-video, but for games that run in HD, what do you use? Also for the CGR videos, did you guys take the time to use S-video or did you just stick with the composites? Also because I mentioned VGA compatibility for the Dreamcast enabling 480p EDTV, I hope to see 480p EDTV review for Dreamcast games from now on. ;)More CGRHD/ED!

games like that were the reason why i had (and still have) a Dreamcast! I adored that game. Really better than the first part and the logo design was really fun to play with :) You could make and save different ones and later chose from them for putting them on ya car. My favorite was the Toyota Supra. Definitelly a true Dreamcast classic.

They are - and while it is noticeably better, they have the same problem - if not as badly. They do have the same kind of fun though, and arguably better graphics. The PS2 games that I've played "3" and "ZERO" are great - although I couldn't seem to get into the drift-related spinoff series. There's actually an Xbox 360 version called "Import Tuner Challenge" in the US - and on one hand it is a recognizable evolution from the old ones - but on the other, falls so short it hurts. The controls and graphics are much better. The cars now have their licensed names - which I actually think detracts from the game - and it more ways than one. Instead of being about the platform, it's about the brand - it's an ad. Much more importantly, it's much more difficult to get licensing for a huge volume of cars these days - so the enormous library of cars from all the TXR games is massively whittled-down for the "ITC" iteration. Such a shame - the enormous depth of vehicle choice and customization is what made TXR fun - so while the technical improvements are very welcome, the developers lost a core aspect of the game in translation.

Actaully, I can't agree with you guys. This game was all about pure customization and if you were setting the steering, the two setting regarding the suspension and the handling regarding of the car you were using, as well as the turbo boost, the car were handling WAY better. Like it was completely different. I felt the exact same way you did, before I really discovered how to set the suspension properly. Then I was completely addict to it. Depending of if your card is FF, RW or FW, set your suspension soft of harder in front and do the same for the back. With many try, you'll find the right one and you'll be rediscovering the game.

@@jonnyelpoiss7 I was just going to mention this since there were so many people commenting on the poor handling of the game. I always adjust the settings while upgrading and the FD RX7 that I'm using now handles like a dream, it's good to go to the test track to try it out. Also in the 3rd game, when it's raining it's good to change to the middle rank tires instead of the S tires as they are basically slicks and your car will be almost uncontrollable in the rain.

You are right. I never said the Dreamcast was not a good system, but it was the weakest in terms of capacity comparison. That doesn't make it was a bad system, because it had great titles, and as you mentioned before, "sometimes the games make the console". For that reason I liked the PS2 and the Dreamcast more than the Game Cube, for example... Anyways, I still don't know why I had my comment marked down either...

Don't know why I had my comments marked down but anyway. I agree with cabarto. I have been looking at other Dreamcast games and I can conclude that it was on Par with the Playstation 2 (in some game areas). It was just a shame that it didn't have the software to compete. Although I never knew it had an internet browser which impressed me a little. But I guess Sega went down Atari's route in the terms of hardware. But I should say it's opinion and we're all entitled to that.

Wangan Midnight comes as either a Japanese version or an Asian version, either will play on any PS3 though, the main difference is the Japanese version allows online play (if anyone still uses it anyway) and you can buy some extra DLC (few extra cars). If you're worried about the language issues there is a story mode but the dialog of isn't all that important to the game. You can get the basic idea of whats going on with it, it's an excellent game for the PS3.

There's no handbrake and there's no arcadey automatic drift gimmick. However, you can drift in RWD cars if you brake hard into some oversteer and then steer the opposite way as you get on the power. There isn't much room for error though, it takes practice.

Overall, not a bad review. However, the reviewers apparently didn't take enough time to complete and learn more about the game. If you complete it at least once, you get a handsome monetary reward, enough to buy you some of the top cars and fully upgrading them. Also, taking turns isn't as difficult once you figure out the art of tuning--one of the main draws of the game.
