The Alpha games are my fave Street Fighter titles of all time (even more than SF2: Hyper Fighting and SSF2 Turbo). SFA2 & 3 get regular play in both my Saturn and DC. I totally agree with u about the DC controller being awkward for fighting games. I use the Agetec stick for DC fighters and the Virtua Stick for Saturn brawlers. The Saturn has a nice pad (S Controller) which at least gives u some viable options for beat 'em ups, but when it comes to fighters the Dreamcast pad is as unwieldly to use as the Gamecube's.

GR8 GAME!The SEGA Saturn version was better though,it was called ZERO 3 'cause it was only released in Japan.At the time it was the most arcade perfect game I'd ever played!The Dreamcast version was awesome to with the online mode!

The soundtrack was the weakest part of this game. By the way, having played both the DC and the PS1 versions of SFA3 I have to say that they look fairly similar on both systems. If you're looking for a truly beautiful Street Fighter game on the DC that makes great use of the system's capabilities, it's Street Fighter 3: Third Strike all the way.

DAM looking back at this game for Dreamcast, This shit must've been krazy online! Send your leveled up character online? Why haven't they bought that mode back for SFIV?!?! That'll get alot of people previously not into fighting games, into fighting games lol. It's a win/win situation. Oh yeah 4 player Dramatic battles would also be euqally epic! JayClay Unfortunately the Dreamcast port was not arcade perfect (Saturn port had more animations) and there are a lot of players out there who prefer the Saturn D-Pad ;-) Check out Game Sacks comparison video.

iPLAY SEGA!! The DC version is excellent. It used only a small amount of Dreamcast's memory output. The Saturn was arcade perfect. But the port came at the end of its life in Japan with the 4MB cart. All PS1 2D Arcade ports are SHIT. And people are DUMB for playing them and preferring them over Dreamcast. Seriously, who the hell would prefer low end ports over co-op?

lightsouthaha The Dreamcast version has faster framespeeds,more colors,more balanced controls than the Saturn version. The Saturn version is 100X times superior to the crappy low quality PS1 version, it has better animation,faster speed,more colors,faster load times. Compared to the DC version, the Saturn version has slightly more animations(hence the required 4MB RAM Cart).

The Dreamcast is the same generation as the PS2. The Sega Saturn was way ahead of its time. It was not popular in europe and usa, but for me it has a lot of games that are outstanding. Checkout the videos here on youtube about the Sega Saturn. InecomCompany had made a whole week about Saturn games, check his videos too!

no. dreamcast hardly has load screen! Don't forget ps1 worked at 33mhz or something while dreamcast speed is at 200mhz. A big difference. No load!

There were a lot of great DC games that sadly were never re-release (Power Stone 1-2, Plasma Sword, Project Justice, Cannon Spike, and Giga-Wing 1-2). Strange but most of them were Capcom games.

That's fine but Power Stone 2 is one of those multi-players that's best when played with buddies in the same room instead of strangers online. You could play it online but that would rob it of the Arcade-like experience it offers.

Saturn really only suffers from the lack of transparency, but in return they took advantage of that and gave the port a more arcade-esque appearance since the original used faux transparency as well so it makes for the perfect arcade port especially given the extra animations it shares with it and the Saturn's fighting pad is far superior. Not only do they have an actual arcade stick peripheral available, but their own controller still has a six-button layout so it's unarguably more easier to play. Hell, their controller has two extra buttons so you can use taunts and fight with all the punches and kicks. Oh, the D-Pad; that is actually the most important part of the game. And again, the Saturn triumphs for using the classic SEGA D-Pad for the last time, and for a game like Street Fighter it is PERFECT for executing combos. Though my personal favorite is using the 3D pad due to it having buttons that are evenly convex, nicer triggers, comfortable grip and a flexible D-Pad. Their 3D pad is basically the Dreamcast's pad but with more buttons and comfort. Their joystick even feels nicer, for the games that did use it; mostly due to it being concave so your finger stays on it. Overall, despite the high price I would recommend buying the Saturn port. And I would hurry on that too, because prices might inflate again soon and within a few more years it could reach the range of Hyper Duel! So do not miss out on adding this to your collection, for it is probably the best Street Fighter in the whole franchise and it's arcade perfect. The only other system that did it just as well was the final port on the PSP, and you could hook that thing up to your TV with component so I guess it would look better too. However, the pad on that thing is weak and two-player is impossible unless someone else owns the game and a PSP themselves.

Well yeah the saturn controller is the best fight pad ever. They have a dream cast adapter for saturn to dreamcast you know. Also they had a PS2 version of the saturn pad and a PC version. The PC version works on the PS3 also.

mrdante361 1) Dreamcast Adapter is really expensive. 2) Extremely rare, thus really expensive too. 3) Probably not that good; RetroLink BUTCHERED the N64 D-Pad with its tightness and for fighting games it's impossible, I imagine the Saturn D-Pad suffered a similar fate.

What is retrolink? I have 4 saturn to dreamcast adapters and they were like 10 bucks back then. All the saturn usb pads I own are originals with Sega logo and are from SLS. They are perfect controllers I bought 20 of them a few years back in double packs off Ebay. I gave them to friends for street fighter IV and have back ups in case anything happens.

Same for the other Capcom fighting games with the "For Matching Service" label like Vampire Chronicle and SSFIIX. Of course, this was only in Japan.

I see there's an adapter that allows you to use your Saturn controllers on the Dreamcast. It's called Total Control 3, costs around $20. My hands cramp up at the thought of using a DC joypad for Capcom fighters, so this is a godsend. Good Lord, there are so many good fighting games on Saturn and DC.

Bought this game for Ps3, 1. Its way to hard. 2.You are forced to use a d-pad making performing combos impossible, cpu blocks every single attack, ridiculous combos you have to remember, fighting games are a waste. This game sucks.

It would be cool if someone ported Gran Turismo 3 to the dreamcast. I bet it would work, maybe with an exception of slight lagging. The polygons are much bigger in GT3 compared to GT4!

games like this, marvel vs capcom 2, power stone 1+2, tech romancer, giga wing 1+2, street fighter III: 3rd strike, gunbird 2, and a ton of others make it worthwhile investing in a pc with a little more 'whazzamm' for your mame cabinet, mame is great, but the dreamcast basically took what made arcade games awesome, and enhanced their visuals and audio beyond epic, and added tons of new modes and extra content

To be honest Capcom always has made a great coding job, when Street Fighter came out, there was a huge difference between Arcade games and Home console games, like day and night, and they did such an awesome job porting it to a lot of 16 bit consoles.. you didn't miss that much while playing it at home.. obviously the controller and that stuff, but unlike other game ports of the era, that one actually felt like if you where playing the same game at home and in the arcades.

@DragnSly I won't argue with you on that. I will say this though. The original Streey Fighter is far superior to The Legend Of Chun Li. Kristen Kruek plays a pretty good Lanna Lang, but she wasn't convincing at all as Chun Li. Plus the original movie had Raúl Juliá as M. Bison FTW. The original Street Fighter Movie was so bad that it was good and that's what gives it a redeeming quality in my eyes whereas The Legen Of Chun Li is just OK. Anywho, I digress....

@pladampa They've calmed down with the rehashes since the Dreamcast was released. Before that, it's been same game engines over and over and over again. Final Fight, King Of Dragons, Street Fighter 2, Mega Man, Mega Man X, and Resident Evil, just to name a few, have been re-released under different titles, or have had WAY to many sequels (I'm talking to both of the Mega Man series as far as sequels go). The Breath Of Fire series has been mixed up a bit, so that one gets a pass.

@endauthority You learn the basis of the game, what your moves are, what other character's moves are, and how fights should play out. the CPU is actually decent, it's no replacement if you're trying to be competitive, but if you play World Tour to any extent, odds are you don't care about competition anyway.

@litoariel Get the Dreamcast version and a Dreamcast. You can get a dreamcast for pretty cheap now and if you get a model that was made before 2000 you can just download the game and burn it to a CD-R. It will work if you do it right.

the reason why its called street fighter zero/alpha is because it is a prequel storywise of the events in sf2 hence the word alpha (beginning) p.s. however chronologically its in between 1 and 2 so 1.5 wouldve sounded smarter but zero/alpha sounds cooler :)

This is the ultimate version of SFA3. I owned it yrs ago. I plan to get a Dreamcast system and games again. The only issue I had with this version was with the controller. I always wished I could use my Sega Saturn six button controller with it.

I liked Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the PSP. Fast, exciting play and fun cartoon sprites, but too over-the-top unrealistic for me. Just too much gigantic jumps, hand hakuunen electro-blasts, hurled fireballs, upside-down spinning leg pinwheel attacks, etc. Preferred SEGA's Virtua Fighter 4 for the PS2 which had some unrealistic play, but the fighters used different styles of actual martial arts techniques. The fighters were well balanced, but I preferred Vanessa, even though she was a bit slow.

It feels good to hear another opinion of the controller because it's that terrible. I rarely get frustrated with a PS3-controller because you actually do the moves you want. But with the Dreamcast I feel lucky when I get the moves out one time out of five. It's also an art to walk without jumping or switch Gen's fighting styles by pressing all three punchs or kicks. Maybe I get this on the PS1, sigh.

Bison in the arcade mode? It ALWAYS happened to me...I eventually got decent enough to get past him in fewer than three continues with my best character (Dan), but still...

@aerialdude the new SF games are fantastic, but l too miss the 'World Tour' mode, it just adds that extra challenge to the player, like for one match your not allowed to perform special moves, throws can only do damage, and your opponent has X2 power etc.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 was a terrific fighting game of cartoon-like sprites duking it out. This game ported well to the PSP handheld for fun mobile punch-outs.

Awesome game as it is; I still prefer alpha/Zero 2. Both of which are in mame, minus world tour mode of course for alpha/zero 3.

3rd Strike is all you need. Alpha 3 was always that game you'd play on the multicade of your college campus when you couldn't find a 3rd Strike cabinet.
