They screwed up the frame rate in the HD port. The Dreamcast version runs constant at 60 FPS.

Very interesting that little brief freeze up just before you die happens in this version too. That happens in the dreamcast version and I thought it was a glitch

I bought my version of this game this week in Taiwan (Japanese version). Of course it runs on my European PS3. There are two things I'd like to point out: - Slowdowns happen only when you got hit. I suppose it's intentional - and not due to hardware restrictions. - Dual Stick controls can be set in the "options" menu - in both versions (new order and arcade). Hope this helps. I can highly recommend this game.

I have two gripes with the New Order Mode: 1. Your helicopter has more degrees of freedom facing left and right and this often works to your detriment when your angle is wrong. The Arcade mode angles are simply straight, left, and right, which makes it easier to aim. 2. The widescreen removes some of the tricks when beating bosses, particularly the last boss, in which the some of bullets disappear when shooting at the corner in Arcade Mode due to narrow screen. This adds difficulty.

cont'd: Actually, the New Order Mode music is also one of my complaints, since all stages except the last one does not have a dedicated boss theme that the original score does; it simply continues the stage music. Minor, I know, but it does detract from the overall experience. In any case though, I'm really glad I picked this game. Certainly hearkens back to the old shmups with less emphasis on pretty bullet patterns and more on survival. Good job G.Rev and Rising Star Games.

This game was released about 5 years after the Dreamcast died. Quite amazing. Didn't know they made a HD version. Which looks exactly like the DC version btw.

Yup, I know about landscape widescreen mode. I guess now I realize why the Dreamcast version was in Portrait mode by default. Zero Gunner 2 would be nice in 1080p...

I believe one of the new modes allows you to play twin-stick; the standard game is intended for arcade stick though.

This game was awesome back on the DreamCast. I got the Limited Edition import for PS3 and a ditigal copy on the Xbox 360 for Games on Demand. I wish G-Rev would've released Border down HD though because imo that was their best shmup.

The 16-bit techno rock from the arcade version is on par with mega man x soundtrack. Personally I think they have some of the best game soundtracks

I have under defeat for the dreamcast and i agree mark it's not a overwhelming shooter,untile at the end at least.It's some thing that under defeat got ported to the PS3 "given sony is basis towards" to shoot'em ups.

Actually developer's pronounced grev, despite being written G.rev. They just put out a 3DS tank shooter called Kokuga alongside the director of Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun.

It is nice to get some proper shmups for this generation of consoles. Even if it is a bit late. That said I doubt these consoles will last as long given their hardware failures.

Yeah, Under Defeat is an incredible game. Second-best Dreamcast shmup easily, behind only Ikaruga... it's great to see it in an easily importable release on the PS3 (the 360 version is region-locked I assume?).

Under Defeat was a sweet ass game. It's titles like these that really deserve the HD treatment. While I do like the fact that publishers are doing HD re releases of titles like MGS and what not I just don't think they need to. But stuff like Under Defeat? Not just yeah but hell Yeah. Maybe they could do this for another sweet ass smup, Zero Gunner!

That game is awesome! I like that the developers created a game from a controversial stand-point. The original soundtrack for that game is the best.
