Feuds and animosity are usually kept private, but that’s almost impossible to do in the world of Hollywood. If two stars dislike each other, it’s likely to become apparent one way or another. It may end up in the press or tabloids or feature in an autobiography written years later.

Many of the events that start Hollywood feuds are similar to those that spark animosity among “normal” people. They include rumors, fights over men, and competition for coveted roles.
Each Hollywood feud transpires uniquely. It depends on how willing the stars are to work together despite their differences, the nature of their relationship, and several other factors.
Attempts at peace may fail like they did with Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra. They can also succeed like they did for Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor.
A feud can make a project better or ruin a career. Vivian Vance vs. William Frawley used their distaste for one another to play a more believable married couple, but animosity ended famous duos like Abbott and Costello.
Family fights are common within Hollywood as siblings attempt to one-up each other. This was certainly the case for Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine.
Feuding doesn’t discriminate based on gender. Men and women like Ginger Rogers may develop a distaste for each other. Two men like Orson Wells and William Randolph Hearst may fight over business matters. Two women who aren’t related, like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, may fight over men or become jealous of the roles and awards one of them receives.
The press loves Hollywood feuds and tends to stir up the drama. They’re a juicy story for fans but can leave the stars with deep wounds that may never heal.
Like and subscribe for more on the most famous Hollywood names that are now tied together for either negative or positive reasons. Watch our video for an overview of some of the most famous Hollywood feuds of all time.

For years I always thought it was Martin that broke the pair up. But after seeing how mean and hateful Lewis was in his latter years and hearing stories from those that worked with Lewis I now believe it was Lewis. I always thought Lewis was the meek, mild one and Martin was the mean one. Come to find out it was quite the opposite. Lewis sure had us fooled.

When Guys & Dolls was being filmed, Marlon Brando made it a point to blow his lines, during his scene in the cafe, with Frank Sinatra. That meant, for every reshoot Frank had to put a piece of cheesecake in his mouth and eat it. By the time the scene was completed Frank complained “How much cheesecake does he think I can eat???”

(n a 1982 episode of "Late Night with David Letterman" Jerry bragged that during the days of Martin and Lewis (1946-1956) he pulled a practical joke on Dean Martin, who wanted help sleeping, by spiking his drink with uppers and downers so Dean couldn't sleep and had to call off work the next day. No wonder Dean wanted to get away from him.

Jerry Lewis published a book in his later years titled "Dean & Jerry: A Love Story." He said they loved each other like brothers and the break-up of their partnership was primarily due to Dean's wife, not because of jealousy between the two of them. Dean Martin was Uncle Dean to Jerry's kids and Jerry Lewis was Uncle Jerry to Dean's kids, confirmed by Dean's daughter. It hardly ruined either of their careers either!

The animosity between William Frawley and Vivian Vance continued after I Love Lucy ended. William Frawley had one of his fellow My Three Sons cast members accompany him to the edge of the sound stage, and behind where The Lucy Show was being filmed. Will had the two of them drop some empty film canisters, which made quite a loud noise, and disrupted a Lucy Show scene being filmed. Vivian Vance was heard to shriek “BILL!!!” William Frawley’s last television appearances was on The Lucy Show, but only Vivian Vance had left the show

There was no "role" of "Daphne du Maurier" in the film "Rebecca" (1940). Daphne du Maurier was the author of the novel upon which the film was based. The character played by Joan Fontaine actually has no name, a ploy used by the author of the book to emphasize the colossal impact of the title character, who is deceased when the story begins (murdered by Max de Winter in the novel, but due to the "production code" had to have died by accident for the film version).

You are completely wrong! Dean Martin was no drunk. Don't spread rumors with no facts. Listen to Frank Sinatra describe Dean and the stage act that Dean did to get laughs and entertain. How many alcoholics do you think get huge contracts, the largest of it's time, given to them by a major television network like NBC? Dean didn't even want to do a weekly television show at the time so he put in a whole bunch of crazy demands that he thought no network would agree too. But NBC knew that they had a hit television show with Dean Martin. Listen to Deana Martin, Dean's daughter who revealed years later that Dean always had apple juice in a glass as a stage prop. And that her father was doing a stage act. She also said that her father usually had one drink with dinner and that was it. Dean liked to get up early to play golf. He was a very good golfer too. Dean's drunk act in Vegas even fooled his producer director Greg Garrison the first time he met Dean Martin back stage after Dean's show. Garrison was totally surprised to see Dean completely sober just minutes after leaving the stage. Dean told Garrison I fooled ya didn't I? And they laughed. Dean had a weekly television show, also made many motion pictures through the years and on top of all that, he was a huge Las Vegas performer. Like Dean said in many later interviews, how many drunks can do all that and have major companies believe in them enough to pay them millions of dollars? Dean Martin was no drunk! Look up the facts before you spread rumors about an entertainer who is beloved by millions and millions of people all over the world.

One of the first things you stated in this video is absolutely incorrect. Dean Martin was not a workaholic. Jerry Lewis was in fact the workaholic. Dean Martin like to work as easy as possible. When Dean and Jerry were together on movies, once they shooting was done, Dean was out on the golf course relaxing while Jerry was working on the script and learning the art of making movies. And after the mid 60s Dean Martin had a much more successful career than Jerry Lewis without question.

Martin and Lewis were the greatest comedy duo of all time????? I think Abbott and Costello. Martin & Lewis together for 10 years, A&C for about 20. M&L - 16 films. A&C - 36 films. A&C were successful in burlesque, on Broadway, on the radio, in the movies, and TV.

@@paulweir5031 I've seen them and overall I like A&C as do two other people who replied to my post. I'm allowed to voice my opinion without having to get your permission. Now L&H deserve credit for writing some of their own material and yes, I also find them funny. One of my favorite jokes was when Hardy buys only one milk shake and explains to Stan (while pointing to the shake) , first the bottom while he tells Stan "You drink half, and then points to the top and says I'll drink half". Stan takes the shake and proceeds to drink the entire shake. Hardy asks him "Why did you do that" and Stan cries that "My half was on the bottom". My main point was that Martin and Lewis were NOT the funniest comedy duo of all times. BTW, do you know who else likes A&C ? Jerry Seinfeld. He once did a TV special - Abbott & Costello meet Jerry Seinfeld. Seinfeld even admitted in an interview that his TV show was partly modeled after A&C's TV show.

Ach! I liked the majority of these people, till their heads swelled up. Not including Olivia,or Debbie. They were as sweet as circumstances allowed their sanity to be,lol. I did hear that Jerry & wife didn’t like Dean’s side-chick wife. Though, the way Jerry eventually treated his family,he had no right to say what he did. What Joan & Liz did to Betty & Debbie was terribly cruel. And,it couldn’t have been easy for Marlon to request help, but I bet he truly wanted to make things right with Frank, who was basically a good guy, till he went all gangsta. They say Orson was overbearing, but he was a pretty good actor. Eddie was just weak! And,though I know he wasn’t mentioned,*Gene* could have helped Marlon,he didn’t need mean ole Frank! If I missed anyone, it’s because I forgot them,or didn’t recognize them.

Dean Martin didn't like New York Cops especially because he felt total humiliation from them. Calling him names likes dings or dingo is a racial profiling among Italian community. What created a rift is when Jerry Lewis asked him to a cop role that really burned inside Dean Martin .

They are making too much of the split between Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. They wanted to take their respective careers in very different directions, that's all. I used to see their movies as a kid and even I could see they were like acting in two different movies, Dean Martin a crooner and a romantic lead and Lewis with his crazy, sometimes surreal antics, they were already looking in very different directions. The mystery is really why they stayed together for so long. I think they were real pals who found it hard to part ways, no Lennon & McCartney mind you.

Joan Crawford was so jealous of Bette Davis. Bette wouldn’t sleep with her and wanted nothing to do with “Sleezy” Joan. When Bette was nominated, Joan went to the other nominees and told them not to vote for Bette and that she would get the award for them, to piss Bette off. They all agreed and Bancroft won. Bette should no doubt have won for Baby Jane. That was stolen from her as a few others were. Jealousy was a big part of the problems and so wrong.
